Chapter 8
His expression became more and more grim as he continued to read the letter. And after his eyes trailed to the bottom of the page, he slammed it back to the table. Judging from his expressions, it was clear that we ruined his little party night. Fear crept into his eyes and he laid back on his sofa as his hands shook in fear. I could see little beads of sweat on his chubby face as he worriedly stared into the distance. It made me wonder what that letter says. But based on what I’ve seen so far and my knowledge of how ruthless the organization is, my best guess is that he’s about to die.
“You don’t need to write back.” Canary cut off his deep thinking with her cold voice. “Just tell us what your answer is and we’ll let you enjoy the rest of the night.” Canary said and Mr. Martin grits his teeth before angrily sighing in resignation.
“Fine. Tell that woman I will contact her soon.” He hissed. Looks like his arrogance still remains intact even in these situations.
“Are you sure that is all you want to say?” Canary asked in confusion and Mr. Martin stood up aggressively.
“Yes! Go on and tell her to wait. I will pay her soon.” He swished his hand around to tell us to go away. “Now, why don’t you go out and do your business? Or maybe, you’re interested in giving me some entertainment tonight?” He asked with a malicious stare. He then licked his lips and looked at the two of us from head to toe. I pretended to just sigh in annoyance, when in fact, his stare made me shiver in disgust.
That’s it, I can’t stay in this place any longer.
“We refuse.” I firmly told him and I stepped towards him to grab the crumpled letter on the table. We were ordered to burn the letter after it’s read to avoid accidentally bringing it to the hands of someone else, after all. And just as I was about to grab it, he reached for my arm and gripped it tightly. I glared at him, trying not to look fazed, and he just grinned at my face like a fool.
“This is my first time seeing you, little lass. You must be new.” He said. “I must say, you are quite a beauty. Your body is totally my type, too... Why don’t you stay for a while, my lady?” He offered before giving me a meaningful wink. I suddenly felt disgusted being held by him. I quickly tried to shake my hand out of his grip with every bit of my strength. I took advantage of his surprise and quickly grabbed the letter. I stepped away from him to avoid getting grabbed again.
“I repeat, we refuse.” I told him. He looked angry that I refused him at first, but the confidence quickly went back to his face.
“Oh, come on! You’ll end up being s*x slaves anyway! Don’t think too highly of yourselves!” He pointed his finger at us while laughing. “Women like you should just keep quiet and accept your fate. Your lives have already been sold, you know? You should make your little brains understand that no matter how hard you try, you can’t buy it back!” Mr. Martin said with a belittling tone. I guess it wasn’t surprising that he knew about our jobs because he’s been involved with the organization for a long time. He looked at us perversely again, and was about to approach us when the door opened.
The lady on the stage, whom Mr. Martin chose to serve him tonight, entered the room. We told her to enter when we told her to, but it looks like she felt that we were in a tight spot and she came in on her own. She looked at us and signaled us to go before she flashed a dazzling smile on angered Mr. Martin. She knew exactly what to do to take his attention, and his anger dissipated right away as he stared at her with lust in his eyes.
I looked at her in awe. I think she is trying to save us from this man’s advances. I didn’t need anyone to tell me that things will get unpleasant if we stay here a little longer. And before I could move, Canary nudged at me to make me stay away. I stepped back and let the lady make her way towards Mr. Martin.
“Thank you, Ivy.” Canary whispered to the woman before we went out of the room.
