The City

~Elena's POV~

"I don't think it will be bad. You are thinking too much," Adam said while helping me lift the weights.

"I know. It's just... I never went there and you know I don't have good experience of meeting new people. That too who are from the city. I am a little anxious, that's it."

I might have said that's it but I know what kind of storm is swirling inside me. A lot has happened to me till now because of werewolves and now the thought of going back to the place where a lot of werewolves live is giving chills in my spine.

What if I meet more people out there like my father? Or worse... Like him?

What if I meet...

No...

I shuddered at that shitty thought and wiped the sweat from my palms and forehead. No matter what... I can't let anything like that happen. Werewolves already created chaos in my life, now I won't let history repeat itself.

I emptied the whole bottle of water to calm my racing thoughts and stood against the wall, I will just go there, be with my team, do my work and will be back in no time. Yes... That's what I am going to do today and on the day of the event.

"Elena..."

Adam placed his hand on my shoulder and I shivered with his touch. Goosebumps erupted on my skin and my heart skipped a beat.

He quickly withdrew his hand understanding the situation and mumbled sorry which gave me a pang in my chest. I closed my eyes while cursing myself, why do these small gestures scare the s**t out of me?

He was only concerned and friendly but due to those shitty reasons, this frightened side of mine always comes to the surface. Till when I will be shaking like a leaf for no reason?

Whatever it was, it is in the past now but...

"I am sorry Adam..."

"I understand... It's fine. You still need time to leave those horrible things in the past. Anyway, Chase told me that your father visited last night. Did he take the money?"

I looked at Adam's brown worried eyes and chuckled bitterly, "Yeah... He did. But thanks to you and the training that you are giving to me, I was able to stand my ground in front of him and only gave him a few bucks. He couldn't take all my money. And one day I will make sure he doesn't get even a penny from me. That day will undoubtedly come soon."

"Indeed it will," He brightly smiled.

At first, I was shaken to the core when I sensed my father outside my apartment. A number of worst thoughts were jumping up and down in my head before he entered the room but right after he stepped his foot inside the living room, I don't know from where, but I got the courage to face him. I already told Chase to hide and not come out until I told him to do so and for the first time in my life, I stood in front of my father while looking directly into my father's eyes.

He was shocked to witness that I was able to protect myself. He always thought that I will be helpless and won't be able to escape him but last night was all about giving him shocks.

I am glad I chose to come to the gym and get trained by Adam. I guess, this is the first ever decision that I made right in the first go.

"You need to leave now otherwise, you will be late. Don't worry about Chase, you know he is with me safe and sound," Adam said clearing the space for me to leave.

With a smile coming on my face, I left the gym and went straight to my apartment.

It's not that I never saw what a city looks like but coming here after years tells me that the city has upgraded a lot. New big buildings, several skyscrapers and parks... Everything has changed a lot.

But what my heart and eyes find pleasing is that even after having so many tall buildings, the greenery of this beautiful city didn't die. People working for the city made sure that they upgrade but with keeping the environment in my mind and I loved what they have done.

"Have you never been here before?" Ms Tiana asked while keeping her focus on the road which was filled with a lot of cars.

"I used to come here when I was a kid. After that, I never came here." I truthfully answered.

A tall building came into our view and I read the name written on the board, 'Black Enterprise'. Hmm... Wasn't this the same company which I shortlisted for the job?

Coming here was written in your destiny...

A voice in the back of my mind said and my heart started pumping at a faster pace. What does it mean that it was written in my destiny?

Ugh!!!! Why the f**k my mind is playing with me?

"Are you alright Elena?" I heard Ms Tiana's voice.

"Uh, yeah... Why?"

"I told you to get off the car but you didn't listen instead your expressions changed into something that I can't tell what it was," She said in confusion.

Oh god... Why can't I control my emotions around people?

"I am sorry... I am just a little worried. What if I mess up there? I mean I am still a learner, not an expert. Also, I am not experienced like the other people here."

She giggled while mentioning me to get out of the car and once we both were out, she flipped her black hair stylishly behind her shoulder and said, "Experience comes with learnings my dear, nobody is born an expert. We have to learn it with time. And don't worry you don't have to do everything on your own. We will be doing everything together, you will not mess up anything and if you do, I will be there to sort it out."

No matter how jinxed I am from the inside, the words of this sweet lady always calm my racing thoughts and make me feel comfortable in every situation. Whether it's cooking any dish for the first time, handling customers or meeting new people, this lady clearly knows how to cheer people around her.

We walked inside the building and my nose caught the scent of a lot of werewolves. My palms started to get sweaty and my heart started beating so fast as if it was beating in my throat instead of my chest.

I took some breaths from my mouth and suddenly my mom's beautiful face flashed in front of my eyes. Her beautiful hazel eyes with brown hair strands covering her pretty face were looking at me with a lot of love and pride that all my uneasiness washed on its own.

I took a deep breath and smiled, even if my mother is not with me today, she is still giving her angelic presence and energy to me.

I saw Ms Tiana talking to the receptionist who is a werewolf and walked over to her. The receptionist sweetly smiled while looking at me and I sensed her friendly aura which gave me good thoughts about her.

She called a young boy who I sense is a human and said, "This is Mason. He will show you the place where you will be working."

"This way..." The boy smiled.

We entered the lift and he pressed the button for the 30th floor. My eyes widened, we will be going that up?

"It's so high..." I whispered.

Although I whispered those words, Mason and Ms Tiana heard them and started chuckling while looking at my wide eyes. I quickly changed my expression and looked away from their stares, this is the reason why I didn't want to come! I already embarrassed myself!

"Well... Our office is huge and every party is held in the office itself. Our event hall is huge enough to gather at least 1000 people," Mason grinned.

"That's amazing," Ms Tiana said.

Indeed it is amazing. I wonder how rich the owner of this company is. If his office is built with luxuries, imagine how he must have built his home where he must be living a peaceful and luxurious life.

I wish I had even one-fourth of this... Yeah... I wish...

After I don't how many ages, we reached the 30th floor and I couldn't stop batting my eyelashes, does this event hall belongs to this building? I don't think so!

Whereas the reception and entrance of the office were looking all luxurious and professional, this event hall is looking all royal.

The colour of the building from the outside and inside is in mixed shades of blue with white but this event hall is all about the golden and cream royalty.

A beautiful ceiling with lots of lights and a big golden chandelier is complementing the colour of the walls and the golden lights attached to the cream pillars are giving a look of the frame to each wall.

And the stage... Gosh... This man definitely worked his ass off to build this kind of royalty.

"That will be the catering section," Mason said pointing to our right.

I saw a few more people coming out of the lift and Mason told us that there are 3 more different caterers who will be sharing the space with us that day.

A question came into my mind after hearing about other caterers and not being able to restrain myself, I nudged Ms Tiana's arm and asked, "He would have got one unit to make all types of food for them. Why did he go for different types of caterers?"

She gently took my hand in hers and while taking me to the other caterers, she said, "Because he wanted to have the best people for a particular type of cuisine. I know not so many people do this but he did because he has a great love for food and wants to have and give best to the people coming at his place."

"He also has a great amount of money..." I said thinking about the same.

"I agree. Because getting three different top restaurants for a whole day is costly," She laughed.

We greeted other people who are specialists in French and American cuisine and started discussing the working area.

Ms Tiana motioned towards my bag, and I sighed, time to take notes for the big day.
