Jennifer
Nik tackled me in a hug the second I entered the lobby of the building. "Nice to see you too." I laugh softly. "has the client arrived yet?" I ask, getting straight to business. "No, but they should be here within the hour." I nod my head at Nik as we start walking to my office.
Sitting at my desk, I go through the paperwork needed for the meeting while Nik gets us coffee. Not going to lie, it was nice to have time off, but I truly missed being at work. I love my company and everyone that works for me.
Half an hour goes by and there's a knock on my office door. I gestured to Nik to answer it and in walks two very handsome men. I stand up to shake their hands, "Good morning, I'm Jennifer Romanoff." I greet them. "Please, have a seat." As they sit, Nik offers them both coffee, but they politely decline.
"I see you want to open up a gun shop? Could you elaborate as to why you think your store would make a good fit in my strip mall?"
The younger man scoffs, while the older man answers my question with a question. "Why wouldn't it? This town is going to need weapons in order to protect themselves."
He has a point. Ever since my run-in with Chad, I purchased my own handgun and paper spray. But, how often would something like that happen? These guys are making it seem like it's an everyday thing in this town. Until two years ago, I have never experienced or heard of any fatal crimes.
"I thought you of all people would understand." The gentleman continued.
"I do understand your reasoning about citizens needing or wanting a weapon, but how much business do you truly believe you would make in a mall filled with a strip club, bars, and clothes shops? It just seems out of place. I don't need the cops being called because of a drunken man attempting to buy a gun and causing a scene. Do you understand?"
The younger man slowly leans over my desk as he stands up. I gulp as his face inches closer to mine. Any closer, and he's going to have a nice bruised eye. "This town is in greater danger than you know. The monsters are not people, however, but animals."
There's no possible way he's talking about werewolves, right? I need to dig deeper into these two men. "Sorry gentleman, but I have to decline your offer. I wish you all the luck in finding a storefront."
The younger man pulls away from my desk and stares at the other man. "I will pay double the amount you are asking for the rental space." s**t. That's tempting. "Let me think about it and I'll give you a call...
"Oh, excuse my manners. I'm Dexter and this is my younger brother, Xavier." I nod my head. "Dexter, Xavier, I will be in contact soon. Have a good afternoon." I stretch my arm out to shake their hands. Xavier looks pissed but shakes my hand anyway without a word. Dexter gives me a small smile, "I look forward to hearing from you soon, beautiful." Giving me a wink, the brothers leave my office.
The second they exit, Nik rushes into my office.
"So, how did it go? Also, are either one of them single and gay perhaps?" He asks with high hopes. I laugh at his enthusiasm. "Sorry, sweetie. I don't think they are into men. In fact, Dexter had the audacity to call my beautiful and give me a wink." I then quickly fill him in on what was said during the meeting.
"Double the rent! Why did you refuse?" Nik asks in disbelief. I let out a deep sigh. "My gut is telling me that there is something shady about those two. I have a special task for you, my dear friend."
