Cody
“Jazzy, Cody,” I hear.
I feel someone jumping up and down on the bed. I groaned, opening my eyes and saw Lily jumping up and down on the bed.
“Lily, what are you doing?” I laughed.
“Breakfast is ready, so wake up,” She giggled.
“Lily, go away,” Jasmine laughed.
“No,” Lily replied firmly before sitting down between us.
Jasmine and I looked at each other, shaking our heads and sat up. Lily was smiling brightly back and forth between us.
“What is for breakfast?” I asked.
“Pancakes,” She said excited, “So come on, stop being lazy,” She added.
I grabbed my phone, checking the time. It was not even eight a.m.
“It is too early for breakfast,” I said, pouting at her.
“No, it not, hurry up,” She said sternly.
Yes, she for sure gets her attitude from Jasmine. She reminded me of Jasmine when we were that age. Lily climbed down off the bed, standing at the bottom looking at us with her hand on her hip, and tapped her foot.
“We are coming, little miss bossy,” Jasmine laughs.
“She gets that from you,” I said, looking at Jasmine.
Jasmine flipped me off, laughing before getting out of bed. I followed before Lily got on at me again. The three of us headed downstairs. Everyone was outside to have breakfast, waiting for us before they started.
“Jasmine and Cody friends again,” Lily said happily.
How does she know that? Yes, she found us in the same bed, but I am sure she is too young to work out that made us friends again. Or maybe she isn’t. I don’t know, not good with kids.
“They were cuddling,” Lily giggled, “In Jasmine’s bed,” She added.
Thanks for that, Lily. The moment she said that, all eyes were on us, Jasmine’s dad looking right at me, a stern look on his face. s**t! I don’t think he appreciates me sharing a bed with his daughter. It was a little different when we were kids, but now we are teenagers with crazy hormones. I can only imagine what is going through his head.
“Dad, there is no need to try to kill Cody with your eyes,” Jasmine said, “We watched a movie and fell asleep, that was all,” She added, a firmness to her voice.
“That better be the truth,” He said, looking back at me.
“It was. I promise,” I said.
He studied me for a minute and then nodded his head. The three of us joined the others at the table. There was a large stack of pancakes, a plate of bacon, a bowl of fresh fruit and of course coffee and fruit juice too.
“So, are you, friends, again?” My Grandma asked.
“We are working on it,” I smiled.
Jasmine nodded in agreement before tucking into breakfast. The rest of us followed.
“What do you kids have planned for today,” my mum asked.
“We are going to go to the hardware store and get things to rebuilt Grandpa’s tree swing because it is by its best,” I said.
“Yes, and then we are going to take Lily down to the lake, with a picnic, if that’s alright?” Jasmine asked, looking at her parents.
“YAY! Picnic,” Lily said, jumping up and down on her seat.
“Of course it is, sweetie,” Her mum smiled.
“You two used to love it down there,” Grandma said.
“Yes, it was one my most favourite places in the entire world,” Jasmine gushes, “It was good to go down there again,” She added.
“Yes, I have missed that place,” I said.
I have been here a few times since the last time Jasmine was here, but I didn’t go to the lake. I couldn’t bring myself to do that. It was always our place, and going down without Jasmine just didn’t feel right.
“I said to your mum that this would be a good place for you two to try and sort things out,” Grandma smiles.
And yes, she seems to be right about that. Hopefully, we will still be alright when we go back home and back to school. Everyone finishes up with breakfast, Jasmine and I cleaning up before moving to get ready. We would come back and get Lily after we get the swing done.

Jasmine and I were trying to get the swing built and not doing a great job of it, but we would get there.
“Right, who is climbing to get the rope around the tree?” She asked.
“You were always better at climbing than me, but I will go up if you want too since you aren’t such a tomboy now like you used to be,” I laughed.
Jasmine looked at me, seeming a little offended that I would say such a thing.
“I will go up. Just because I am more girly now, it doesn’t mean I no longer have my tomboyish ways,” Jasmine laughed.
I held my hands up and nodded. Jasmine studied the tree for a moment, and soon enough, she was flying up to it, sitting on one of the branches. I tossed the rope up, and she tied it around the tree, making it was sturdy enough.
“What do you think?” She asked.
I gave it a hard tug, and it seemed to stay in place. I nodded, and Jasmine smiled, making her way back down the tree. Just before her feet were on the ground, she seemed to lose her grip. I dropped what I had in my hands and dived to where she was, catching her. That was the plan, but it didn’t work that way because we both ended up falling, me blocking Jasmine’s fall as she fell on top of me.
“s**t, sorry, are you OK, Cody?” She asked, looking down at me.
“I am fine, are you? That was a close one,” I said.
“Yes, I am fine,” She smiled, sitting up on my stomach, “Thank you for saving me a harder fall,” She added.
“Anytime,” I said.
Jasmine didn’t move of me after that. My hands automatically went to her hips, resting my hands on them.
“Do you think we can do this again, Cody? Be friends, and without you trying to hit on me constantly?” She asked.
“I think we can,” I said, “I will not hit on you again,” I added.
I hope I can stick to my word when I say that because I tend to turn into a complete ass when I am around my guy friends.
“Promise?” She asked.
“I promise,” I reply.
Jasmine reached down, kissing my cheek before getting to her feet. She offered me her hand, which I took, and she pulled me up.
“Let’s get this thing finished, and we can go back and get Lily,” She smiled.
“Yes, good idea because I am sure Lily is getting impatient, “ I chuckle.
“Yip, she will be pestering everyone on when we are coming back,” Jasmine replies.
Jasmine and I got back to work, and we finally got the swing done. Jasmine volunteered me to try it out. I was heavier than her, so it made sense. If I could hold my weight, it could hold Lily’s because she is tiny. We need to make sure it is safe. I hopped onto it, hoping I wouldn’t fall like yesterday. I didn’t.
“It feels firm enough,” I said.
“Yay, we built a tree swing,” Jasmine said, excited.
“Go us,” I laughed.
I got off, and we made our way back to get Lily. Lily was going to love it down here. I was looking forward to spending my day with Jasmine and Lily. There was something about being around those two that made me feel like my old self. And that has to be a good thing, right?
