Ava jumped up in a hurry she had slept in. She had her hair up in a messy bun and quickly jumped into a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. She grabbed her toothbrush and hastily brushed her teeth. She heard a knock at the door and walked out to check it since Mia was still in bed, her first class didn’t start until later. She looked to make sure her friend's body was covered before she opened the door. There she stood with her hair in a messy bun, toothbrush in her mouth with toothpaste around her lips looking up at drop dead gorgeous Dylan.
“Oh..uh.. sorry. I just thought I would pick you up at your room… you look adorable by the way.” Dylan smirked as he looked over her body. He watched her face glowing red and she averted her eyes to the floor.
“Give me two minutes okay?” Ava whispered out and shut the door to her room. She would have invited him in except Mia was in all her glory under her blankets. She quickly ran into the bathroom and wiped her mouth clean. She hurriedly brushed her brown thick locks back putting it up in a ponytail. Then did a quick job applying a light layer of make-up. She grabbed her bag and could hear voices as she approached the door.
“My class doesn’t start until later if you want to come back to my room for a bit.”
Ugh… she knew and hated this voice. Bitchney…Brittney really didn’t know when to give up. She heard a low growl come from Dylan but it wasn’t a pleasant one. There was a low lethal tone in the sound.
“I’m not interested. Not now and not ever. A girl like you could never interest me.”
“But you are interested in a girl like that? A lowly omega?” Brittney’s voice snapped bitterly.
Dylan chuckled. “I don’t care about her rank. I’m not sure why you bring that up? I’m guessing it is because that is all you can possibly have to use against her. For the record… she isn’t an omega. I don’t know what rank she is but that isn’t an omega wolf. And I would know. As for my interest in her… she’s special. And I think you know it, which is why you are so jealous of her.”
“Who could be jealous of the gum on the bottom of their shoe? You’ll see. My door is open to you when you change your mind.” Brittany spat out.
Ava listened to the sound of her feet retreating before she finally opened the door to the room. “Okay ready.” She watched his eyes lighten from the darkness that was there. A darkness she was shocked to see. He looked very angry. She always hated Brittany but she had never seen a man angry or upset with her until now. She watched as his eyes trailed over her and a crooked grin rested over his lips. “I liked how you looked earlier.”
She rolled her eyes at him as she closed the door behind her. “Quit teasing me. I know I overslept.”
“Who is teasing?” Dylan chuckled as they walked next to each other. “I meant it.”
She looked at him from the corner of her eye. He was looking straight ahead and didn’t seem to be joking with her. Whatever, she wasn’t going to analyze him right now. She was walking quickly as she glanced at the time. It was going to be close and she didn’t want to be late for classes on the first day.
“Ashamed to be seen with me?” Dylan chuckled, noticing her pace.
“We don’t want to be late.” She hissed at him and listened to his chuckle.
“I don’t think we are going to miss anything. But I can walk faster if you can keep up. I was only being considerate of those short legs of yours.” He teased playfully.
“Oh, you are not looking down on me just because I am shorter than you.” Ava quirked her eyebrow up at him and watched a smug smile spread over his lips.
“Well, you may have to jog to keep up with my walk.” He watched her eyes flicker up at him.
“Oh? Well, I wonder what you would have to do to keep up with my run?” Ava said and quickly took off at a sprint through the halls, dodging people as she ran. She heard the sound of his laughter and the sound of his footsteps swiftly approaching her. For some reason, her heart raced at the thrilling sound of him chasing her. She turned her head to see how close he was…
‘Oooooofff.’
Ava collided with a firm body and felt strong hands land on her shoulders. She looked up sheepishly to see who she had run into. Her face looked mortified as a young man with blonde hair and hazel eyes stared down at her.
“Professor White! I’m so sorry.” Ava listened as the sound of Dylan’s footsteps came to a stop right behind her.
Professor White looked up at the man and then back down to Ava. “It’s Keith.” He winked down at Ava and flashed her a smile. “I’m glad you are excited to get to my class but maybe refrain from running next time. I promise I won’t punish you for being late… unless you want it.”
Ava listened as Dylan growled at the man. She felt his hand grab onto her waist pulling her away from the hands of the professor. She watched as Professor White looked up at Dylan and grinned widely. “Is this your new boyfriend, Ava?”
“You don’t act like a professor,” Dylan said icily glaring at the man. He didn’t like the way his eyes wandered over Ava and he could feel his blood beginning to boil. How dare he look at his mate that way. She was HIS.
“Please just call me Keith. I’m one of the younger professors here at the academy. I’m close to your age.” Professor White’s eyes trailed over Ava once more before he looked back up. “Well, class is starting.”
Dylan watched the man walk through the door across the hall and then he looked down to Ava.
“That’s Professor White. He is our demonology professor.” Ava said, noticing his peculiar look.
“I don’t like him… he acts too familiar with you…” Dylan growled lowly.
“That’s just how he is. He’s a flirt. Better watch out though because he isn’t just into girls and you might be his type.” Ava giggled and watched as Dylan snorted. “He is really helpful though. He is always helping tutor students and gives lots of extra credit. I had him last year for a class.”
“And it looks like he helps himself to the students as well.” Dylan growled lowly.
She giggled. “Those students want a helping. He is a good looking guy and has a lot of admirers.” She listened to Dylan growling at that and smiled. He acted like he was her boyfriend. “Come on.”
Ava walked into the classroom and was met with Professor White grinning and winking at her. She walked up the stairs and found a couple of unoccupied seats. Dylan immediately took one of the seats next to her.
“AVA! My baby!” An obnoxious voice said. A towering bulky young man came bounding up the stairs. “We have class together again. It’s fate!”
“Hi Brock.” Ava said disinterestedly. Brock was over seven feet tall and was all muscle and no brain. He was a werebear and very much a jock. And he looked at Ava as someone he could copy notes off of. He flirted with her casually but that is just how he was. Honestly, Ava wasn’t sure he had the intellect to have a real conversation. Babes, sports and babes.
“Awe bay you aren’t happy to see me?” Brock said, taking the seat next to Ava. Dylan growled loudly and set a challenging gaze on Brock. “New boyfriend?” Brock asked casually. The threat from Dylan rolled right off of him. And because he wasn’t a wolf he didn’t respond to the dominant aura radiating off of Dylan.
“New friend.” Ava corrected and looked over to see the hurt in Dylan’s eyes. She never said they were anything. In fact, she made it clear she only wanted a friendship so why was he looking at her as if she wounded him.
“I’m Brock.”
“Dylan.”
“You picked a great person to sit by. Ava is clever and takes the best notes.” Brock nudged Ava with his elbow.
“You planning to leech off of me again this year?” Ava sighed tiredly.
“I’m going to need a solid partner in class.”
“Ava’s my partner this year.” Dylan snarled glaring at Brock again.
“I get it dude. I need to pass too. But let’s share the brains. We can group up in threes.”
Ava smiled and shook her head. Yes, Brock was clueless. Completely ignorant. He couldn’t even read a fellow male enough to see when he was agitated. She looked over at the lethal glare Dylan was giving Brock while the block head was like a puppy wagging his tail at the growling dog. She looked up as Professor White moved to the center of the class. This is going to be a long semester if this keeps up.
