Maybe not. Nothing happens, and his excitement turns to boredom. No one’s going to miss him. His shift’s over now, and Mother’s is just beginning at her station elsewhere. He could stay here all night and she wouldn’t even know he hadn’t been home. But as minutes turn to hours, even the seconds start to drag. He inches ever closer to dead John Champion.
