EVERYTHING AND NOTHING: a HATER story The writing of Dog Blood , the second Hater novel, was something of an ordeal. Having independently published all my previous books before Hater was picked-up by Thomas Dunne Books of New York, Dog Blood was the first time I’d worked with a professional editor. And one editor soon became two when the books were sold to Gollancz. I tried to please both my new bosses and lost focus on the story for several months until I decided to ignore them all and start again from scratch. The end result was pretty much the book I’d originally planned, but I amassed a lot of additional material along the way.
