Willow
Everyone deserves a world full of opportunities, to dream their dreams, to be who they want to be, and to love whomever they want. We all have the power to shape our destiny whether we use it or not and if there’s one place where these opportunities begin, it’s at Silver Moon Academy.
It’s not just a school, it’s the school for future Alphas, Betas and pack leaders. The world welcomes those who have trained here and if everything goes as planned this school year, I’ll be at an Ivy college by next year.
I worked for months – years, to earn a place here – without a bloodline, without the advantage of having an Alpha father – well I have, only he doesn’t acknowledge me, but…
Nothing had prepared me for the sudden change in my fate. How I had gone from being ignored by my father – Alpha Alaric, to being dropped off in front of Silver Moon Academy this morning by him.
And all it took was just to be in the wrong place at the right time. I didn’t know if I had my father under my thumb now… I wouldn’t assume that, but it’s safe to agree that he would do anything I want him to do now and the shock in his eyes when I had asked for a spot in Silver Moon… By the time I’m done, I will leave this shithole forever and never come back.
The sleek black car pulled up to the imposing gates of Silver Moon Academy, its engine purring to a halt. I gazed out the tinted window, my stomach a knot of anxiety and excitement.
“You understand what’s at stake here, Willow?” My father’s voice reached me snapping me out of my reverie “What you saw…”.
I tried not to roll my eyes as I met his gaze, matching it with mine. “I understand Father. My silence for admission to Silver Moon Academy,”.
He nodded curtly. “And your continued silence for your continued enrollment. Remember that!”
I gave him a stiff smile and got out of the car.
I waited until his car disappeared around the bend before I took a deep breath and started inside the school compound. The main building took my breath away. It was ten times the public school I was used to. What was more, I could feel centuries of werewolf nobility and tradition. This was my chance… no matter how it had come about. I wouldn’t waste it.
The hallway was strewn with students in several small groups conversing amongst themselves, laughing occasionally. Everyone looked shiny and smelt rich. I adjusted my new leather bag, the first gift I had gotten from my father since my birth and steeled myself. They’re normal people like me.
Clutching my schedule, I began searching for my assigned locker.
Finally locating it, I began to unload my book and tried to go through my TO-DO list for today. I was lost in it when a familiar voice reached me.
“Well, well… if it isn’t our little charity case,”.
I turned to see Vanessa approaching, flanked by a group of impeccably groomed girls. They all looked like they were straight out of a magazine.
“I’m surprised you made it through the gates,” Vanessa continued, her tone dripping like saccharine. “Did you have to howl and beg father like the little, worthless omega you are?”
The girls beside her laughed, their eyes gleaming with amusement. I noticed the hallways had grown quiet and some of the student had their phone pointed in our direction.
My cheeks burned with embarrassment but I held my ground. “I earned my place here, Vanessa. Just like everyone else,”.
Vanessa’s dry laugh echoed through the hall. “Oh, sweetie. You believe that, don’t you? Let me make something very clear – you don’t belong here. This isn’t some fairytale where the poor little wolf gets a magical makeover and fits right in. This is our world and trust me when I say you won’t last a week,”.
One of Vanessa’s friends, a brunette, stepped forward emptying the bottle of water in her hand on my head before saying. “I give her three days before she’s crying to go home,”.
“Two,” another chimed in with a smirk.
My hands clenched at my sides, nails digging into my palms. I opened my mouth to retort but the words died in my throat as a sudden hush fell over the hallway.
The atmosphere in the hallways suddenly changed. Students pressed themselves against their lockers, automatically clearing a path down the centre to the hallway. I could hear their hushed excited whispers.
I watched in confusion as the vicious smile I had seen on Vanessa’s face got replaced with a Cheshire smile. Her hand flew to her hair, smoothing it. The other girls too, copied her actions, preening and posturing – one of them went as far as unbuttoning the top two buttons on her blouse.
Curious, I turned to see what – or who – had caused such a stir.
A young man about our age was walking down the cleared hallway with four other young men behind him. His movements were graceful, commanding elegance which he carried with an air of authority. Dark hair was parted at the middle of his head, framing his face in deep, rich curls.
My breath caught in my throat. There was something magnetic about him, a pull I couldn’t quite explain but I could feel danger there too, lurking just beneath the surface. Grateful for the distraction I turned to my locker and busied myself with arranging my book, ignoring the whispers and sighs that followed the boy down the hall.
“Whitney Archer?”
The voice, low and smooth with a rich timbrel came from right behind me. I spun around, nearly dropping my history textbook in surprise.
It was the young man from moments ago. He was standing in front of me, his presence even more imposing up close. His eyes were a striking blue and gold, swept over me in a calculated look. The smile on his face didn’t’ reach his eyes.
“Willow Archer!” I corrected holding his gaze “Who’s asking?”
“I’m Ethan – Ethan Kincaid,” he responded, his tone making it clear that I should already know this.
Kincaid was the surname of the Royal Household – the Lycan King precisely.
Was he a member of the Royal family?
“Come with me!”
It wasn’t a request.
I hesitated, glancing at my half-unpacked bag. “I…I still need to finish,”.
“That wasn’t a suggestion,” Ethan’s voice hardened, the gold in his eyes flashing dangerously. “Follow me, now!”
He turned and started walking away. I couldn’t say No which was unlike me. Rolling my eyes, I shut my locker and fell into step behind him. As we moved down the hallway, I could feel the stares of the other students boring through my back.
Especially Vanessa’s shocked and envious expression which satisfied me greatly since he didn’t even spare her a glance with all the drama she had to do when he was coming.
He led me through a series of corridors until we arrived at a door that was labelled ‘Ethan’. He pushed the heavy wooden door and gestured for me to enter then he followed behind me.
Alone, I watched as his eyes swept my form again before he pulled out his wallet and peeled off several wads of money from it which he now pointed to me; his eyes were as frosty as Christmas ice.
“I’ve arranged for you to be transferred to Golden Bridge High and this is $20,000 to keep your mouth shut. Take it and never come back here!”
