CHAPTER THREE: Planned and Executed

Darren Woods A smirk formed on my lips as I reminisced about the scene that had happened earlier. Did she think I was going to help her out? Did she think I would stop in my tracks and waste my precious time on her? Hilarious. I hate that the moon goddess has decided to punish me by giving me such a lowlife as a mate. I had always been wary of the moon goddess, I wondered why she had to treat me this way. “You look so deep in thought, what is wrong?” Cedric asked, furrowing his brows. He had walked in without me realizing it. He had intense blue, and messy black hair that showed that he was not one for rules. He wasn’t that of a giant man, but when he stood tall, people noticed. He had a personality almost like mine, charming and sneaky but then I was much more sneakier than him. “You wouldn’t believe it,” I chuckled. I was happy. Who wouldn’t be? My plan played out the exact way I wanted, why wouldn’t I be happy? A broad smile stretched across my face as I continued to chuckle. He walked past me, settling on the empty chair in my room. I walked in that direction as well to sit and face him. “You have struck again, right?” He gestured at me, almost laughing his soul out. “You taught me,” I teased, laughing as well. I wasn't just happy that my plan worked but I was happy that my plan unfolded precisely as intended. I grinned in mischief and contentment. “Spill it already,” he persuaded. He had started to lose patience already. “I mated Fiona,” I finally spoke, with pride in my voice. Of course, it was something to brag about. It was a ritual to publicly claim your mate before mating with each other but I had mated with her without all that stupid protocols which I wouldn’t want to indulge in anyway. That’s how much of a bird brain she has. Cedric's eyes widened in disbelief as he burst into laughter and astonishment playing across his face. His laughter echoed through the room, tinged with playful mockery. In between his fun moments, he managed to choke out, “You, mate? Fiona? I thought you never acknowledged her as your mate? You never claimed her publicly, how come you mated her? Well, that aside. I just thought I would never see the day!” His grin widened, and he leaned in, eager to hear the details of it. Cedric was my childhood friend. His father was my father’s best friend and the familiarity kept on moving in line like that. Aside from his crazy laughs, he always had a lazy smile that always seemed to be playing on his lips, as if he knew something that the rest of us in the pack didn't. And he was always surrounded by a gaggle of young women, flirting and laughing in a way that made my stomach twist but I didn’t understand why he had to react that way. “Well, you’re right. I never claimed her publicly and that is because I don’t accept her as my mate. She’s just a slave to me. It’s just that I couldn’t pretend that I don’t want her body, she’s so irresistible. Her pretty brown eyes, olive-tanned skin, gorgeous oval-shaped face, and curvaceous body. Her s****l appeal is something else, it could make one crazy. You know I always get what I want?” I replied, totally lost in her grace. Cedric let out a laugh of mockery, “So, you got a slave laid?” I frowned at him, “Yes, I did. It’s just a one-time thing. I just wanted to have a taste, that’s all. Do you think this would be continuous? Never. She’s just a slave to me, my father, and our pack. I just wanted to taste every bit of her and the only way I could get her was to make her fall in love with me. I know she’s head over heels for me already but sooner she would know her place besides I have chosen Scarlett as my mate and I’ll make it public soon!” I hissed. His comment had messed up my mood. And instantly, I went from happy to angry. Was he trying to judge me when he was no better? He was just about to say something when a sudden noise at the door made us both freeze and we looked. Cedric and I exchanged a look, totally stunned by what had just happened. We were both thinking the same thing: was there anyone there? Could it be Fiona? What did she hear? Nevertheless, I wasn’t bothered. I needed her to know that all that chemistry was a facade. It wasn’t real. I was not in love with her and I would never be. I was only interested in having a freaking taste of her and I did. I stood up and walked over to the door, looking out into the hallway, but I didn't see anyone there. I back to Cedric, who was confused and still sitting at the table. “Who was it?” He queried. “I don't know,” I said. “I didn't see anyone,” I walked back to the table, taking my seat. Just then, I remembered something. I went deep in my thoughts immediately trying to figure out what that was all about. “Darren, what is wrong?” Cedric asked, looking intently at my puzzled face. “About that night… I had tried to mark Fiona but I was stopped by a strange force. I felt like I was being blocked by an invisible wall and I was unable to get through it. Do you think there’s a useful meaning to that?” I asked, feeling confused and curious. “Strange forc…” “Wait,” I said, interrupting him. “My father is approaching,” I could smell his earthy woodsmoke scent in the air, and I knew he was close. I could also hear the sound of his footsteps in the hallway. Cedric's eyes widened, and he stood up, his chair scraping against the floor. He had always been wary of my father ever since he saw him kill someone. The door squeaked open and he walked in majestically, “Darren, son,” he spoke calmly. “Father,” I answered slightly. I stood up and walked over to him, trying to appear calm and collected. Cedric approached my father and gave a low bow. “Alpha Edwards,” he said respectfully. “It is an honor to see you,” My father merely nodded in response. Cedric gave a final bow and then walked away, leaving me alone with my father. “Darren, I'm heading into the woods for hunting. Keep an eye on the pack in my absence,” he declared. “Alright, father. Stay safe,” I replied. He nodded in acknowledgment and walked away majestically. Immediately, I left my chamber to Scarlett’s. I wanted to see her since I had chosen to be my mate. Honestly, it wouldn’t have been her but there was no female wolf worthy enough to be my mate, I had to manage Scarlett with her annoying personality. I hurried down the hallway with my footsteps echoing off the floor. Just as I was about to turn the corner, a young wolf from my pack came running towards me with a flushed face and ragged breath. “Darren,” he panted, “there's a problem! We need to…” He was cut off as I grabbed him by the shoulders, raising my sharp voice, “What has happened?!” I yelled.
