Alisson walked down the road to her parent's home with an empty and clear mind. It was a stark contrast to the raging fury and betrayal she had felt a moment ago.
She had dealt with so much and she had taken everything that was thrown at her with as much grace and calmness a person in her place could take so she did not understand why more terrible and heartbreaking things had to be done to her. Why was she constantly being tested by painful and soul-crushing circumstances? What had she done so wrong to deserve all of this? Why did Henry get away with hurting and humiliating her?
She stopped in front of her parent's home and stared at it intently, hesitating to go in. Once upon a time, she was an ignorant little girl who was naively happy and had two parents that loved her. Now she was a knowing woman who is desperately trying to be happy with a mate who she constantly questioned whether or not he loved her, and two distant parents she barely talks to anymore. She had no one in her life who was just for her, everyone around her was ensnared in the trap that was Henry. They all placed him above her, expecting her to be obedient and please him while ignoring her own needs, wants and happiness.
Even Hunter who was her closest friend and confidant was stuck as Henry's beta and was thus obligated to obey and answer to him before thinking about her.
She stood there, in the still night air and realised that her life was truly a pathetic and sad one with very little joy and pleasure in it. She wanted comfort even though she knew she would not get it from the two people inside. The little girl in her wanted to be held by her mother and father, to be told her fears and pain was worth more than the wealth and authority they got from the one hurting her. She felt a selfish yearning for them to abandon everything for her and go against their leader.
Alisson walked up the steps with shaky legs and knocked on the unfamiliar brown door of the large cottage, sighing softly as she waited. The first chance they got, her parents had abandoned their small soothing home for this large impersonal house. It was a glaring reminder of how little her pain concerned them, as they received all the gifts her mate bestowed upon them with greedy hearts. She hated and loved them in equal measure.
She smelt her mother through the wooden door and was surprised that the scent did not bring her as much comfort as it used to. She was tempted to turn around and find somewhere else to stay even though she knew that she did not have anywhere else to go but could not act on her thoughts as the door opened.
Her mother was dressed to impress, though she had an apron on. Her hair was in a bun at the top of her head which showcased the pearl earrings dangling from her ears that matched the simple yet classy silver necklace draped on her neck.
"Alisson," she stated with a surprise look, "what are you doing here?" She did not invite her in or make any move for her to come into the house and Alisson bit the inside of her cheek to stop herself from reacting.
"May I come in?" She asked, feeling annoyed that she had to ask her mother to be let in.
"Of course," she said as she made way for her daughter and Alisson shuffled in awkwardly. She closed the door behind the girl and led the way to the kitchen, her steps light and silent like she was dancing.
"Where is Henry?" She asked suddenly as if she gave birth to him and raised him to adulthood. "You should have brought him over if you were coming and informed me before coming. Things are not done like this, Alisson and you should have known better," she chastised her while fiddling with a kettle of cold water. She walked over to the stove and set it to boil before turning to look at her silent daughter.
Selena looked annoyed and impatient when she still had not said anything and took a sit on one of the chairs positioned off to the side. "Well? What exactly do you want?"
"Henry cheated on me." She informed the older woman, dully.
Her mother looked surprised. "Are you sure?"
Alisson gave her a shocked look, "am I sure of what?" She asked, her tone taking a sharp edge to it with a bitter sneer on her lips.
"Don't you dare talk to me like that, I am your mother!" She yelled with fire in her eyes.
"I just told you my mate cheated on me and that is all you could think to ask?!" She screamed, outraged by her mother's heartless reaction. "Where is your dignity? Where is your soul?! You are my mother and I am your daughter!"
Tears were streaming down her face in a stream of salty liquid. "I just walked in on my mate with another woman, I don't need this right now," she chocked out in between her sobs.
The older woman sighed in irritation and moved towards her with her hand outstretched. Alisson shook off the fake comfort of her mother and made her way upstairs to one of the guest bedrooms. She kicked off her shoes, climbed onto the bed and tucked herself under the thick duvet. She cried herself to sleep, her mind on the injustices in her life, the pain she received from those who she called her loved ones and the lack of salvation for her.
She wished she could leave, run away and never come back but knew it would never happen. She was trapped with him for the rest of her life and there was no way out for her.
