Shame the Heart.

The sound of a knock on the door startled her out of her restless sleep and she groaned into her pillow in annoyance. "Come in," she called out in a hoarse voice. Her father walked in and softly shut the door. "Your mother told me you arrived last night." He walked towards the bed and sat at the edge awkwardly. "Selena also told me what happened." Alisson expected tears to flow at the reminder of her failed union but nothing came out. She must have cried herself dry. She sat up and collapsed into his arms in a heavy sigh. Her father was a gentle, level headed man who was sometimes distant but tried to be helpful. He may not be strong enough to stand up to her mother and defend Alisson, but he was here with her now and that was all that mattered. "What am I going to do?" She asked him in a soft voice while clutching the front of his shirt. "I don't know," he replied in a defeated tone. Alisson looked up and stared at his anxious and confused face, she suddenly felt upset with him and wanted to pour all her frustration on him. "You never know anything. You just sit there uselessly and know nothing," she responded, pettily with a disgusted look and moved away from him. Caleb looked shocked and hurt as he bit down on his lower lip hard. She felt guilty and apologised immediately, "I'm sorry..." "It's alright," he responded in a guarded and timid tone. "No, it's not. I shouldn't hurt you just because I'm hurt. I'm sorry." She crawled closer to him pushing the duvet away from her and circled her arms around his neck. He hugged her back and pulled her into him. For as long as she could remember he had always loved body contact as opposed to her mother who hated it with a deep passion. It seemed like nothing had changed in that aspect because she could hear his heart that had been previously beating quickly, slow down to a normal rate. "I'll make you breakfast, would you like breakfast?" he asked, eagerly. She laughed at his nervousness and told him she would like breakfast. He left the room to allow her get ready for the day and to get started on their meal. Her father had been the one to teach her how to cook because he loved to cook and her mother was not a patient enough woman to teach a child anything. It had been a family tradition for both of them to cook at least one meal a day together, one she had deeply enjoyed as a child. As she joined him in the kitchen, she realised how much she had missed being with him in the comfort of their home. Her mother was not around to throw snide remarks around and be a nuisance so the atmosphere was peaceful and calm. She forgot completely about Henry as she let herself enjoy the moment and have fun with him. It had been a long time since Alisson cooked for the mere pleasure of it, and she was desperate to make the feeling last for as long as possible. The two brunettes ate and cleaned up while sharing jokes and stories, talking about any and everything. Their bubble of peace was only broken when Hunter came frantically knocking on the door. "Is that the beta?" "Yes," she stood up and walked towards the door. Her opening was met with a handful of him and his face vigorously rubbing into her neck. "I heard what happened and I came as fast as I could," he rushed out when they separated. She could see he had rushed here, he was covered in sweat, mud, bruises and was currently shirtless. "Were you training?" "Yes. But that's not important, Henry cheated on you!" She hushed him and pulled him inside by the arm before sticking her head out, glancing both ways and shutting the door. "We don't need everyone knowing, imagine how it would look to our guests." She gave a contemplative look and glanced at the panting male. "I am surprised he told you so soon. Knowing him and his pride I thought he would stay silent about it until you figured it out yourself." Hunter gave her an assessing and glanced at the quiet man in the corner. "Does he know?" He asked gesturing in her father's direction. She turned to look at the older man in confusion and turned back to the younger man. "Well of course he does, I came straight here just after it happened and told them." "Well you didn't tell me, Selena did," he added, also confused about where the man was going with it. "It doesn't matter I told my mother and she told him, why is this important?" "Where's your mother?" He asked still not answering their questions. "Hunter! How is any of this important?!" She was quickly becoming annoyed with the situation. She just wanted to spend the day quietly with her father, was that too much to ask for? "Freddie told me." "What? Who's Freddie." "A pack warrior," he responded and stared at her. "Why would a pack warrior know about it? Do you think Henry told him?" The quiet man asked the two younger wolves. Alisson shook her head in denial, "Henry would never tell anyone about something like this, let alone some random wolf." "He wouldn't even tell me," Hunter added. "It could be Melody," Alisson stated. "Melody?" Both males asked in confusion. "The woman he was with." Hunter let out a growl and her father frowned in confusion. "The visiting alpha's daughter." He growled out to the older man. "It might not be her." She stated again. "We do not know for sure." "Then let's ask him where he heard it from" Caleb suggested. "That won't help us find the person that started the rumours." "Rumours? How can it be a rumour if only seven people know," Alisson asked with a laugh? "Everyone knows." "What?"
