Starr, Jenna, Delilah, and Phylicia are in the den discussing the rogues they have seen close to the border. Jenna tells them she heard some men talking about a man named Parry. It was one night, they were at a club in Dallas. She thought its name was The Grind. She remembers the club allows humans, shifters, and vampires to go there. From what she heard, one of the men said they were meeting Parry to attack a pack. She didn’t listen to all the conversation because Francemia’s parents weren’t mentioned.
“The attack has to be about Joaquin and greed. Francemia always concealed who she is. Damn, I thought for sure we would have found the bastards that killed Chanel and Aurelius by now.” Jenna throws a cushion on the floor.
Delilah picked the cushion up. “We’ll have to come up with another way to find the assholes. I’m sure Joaquin isn’t going to be thrilled about Francemia going to clubs and bars. Even if it's for a good reason."
"Hell no, he won't be happy. That man hasn't let Francemia out for air. Now that's the kind of man I like." Starr's dancing on the sofa.
Jenna changes the subject back to hunting the killers down. “The witch had to be powerful to bind both of her parents’ powers at the same time. Why haven’t we heard of any witch that hangs around vampire hunters? Maybe they hired her or he hired them."
"We have never come up with the reason for the attack. Aurelius and Chanel always lived in peace and never harmed anyone that didn't mess with them first." Phylicia tapped the arm of the chair.
In the hallway, Byron, Riggins, and Hagen had been listening to the four women. Helga stops beside them and points to the tray she’s carrying with her head. “These women have strange eating habits.”
The three men frowned, looking at a tray of steaks and chicken. Half of the meat is cooked, and the other half is raw. Byron is about to say something about the four women, then stops because Joaquin's communicating with him through their link. He wants him, Hagen, and Riggins to meet him in his office. Byron, Riggins, and Hagen glance at the four women eating the raw meat while walking past the den. Neither one can understand why humans eat raw meat.
Joaquin is sitting behind his desk scanning over a document. He looked up when the door opened, “The queen and I will be out for a while this evening for our first date night.” He noticed their confused expressions. “What’s wrong with you three?”
“They eat raw meat.” Hagen sits down across the desk looking at him. “Humans don’t eat raw meat. At least not like they're doing."
Byron went over to the side of the desk. “They also patrol and can hear damn good. We don’t know how they got out of the house. Where is there a house on the northeast of the border?" He folds his arms, waiting for an answer.
Joaquin cut his eyes at Riggins, "your turn."
“All I know is I have to keep my distance from Starr.” Riggins shakes his head “I’m on her list.”
Joaquin chuckled, still looking at Riggins, “Patrol, oh okay. I’m sure all of your questions will be answered soon. Byron, I need you to find witches who collaborate with vampire hunters. It’s important. As for Starr, all I can say is run.”
Byron tells him that the rogues are camped close to Kinghaven.
Joaquin said he knew because he smelt their nasty asses. And that they all knew Rocky and L. Q. would show up one day. That's the reason he never went searching for them. Bastards always come back for a second round after getting their asses whipped. This time nobody walked away. The only reason those two left alive last time was because his mother was alive, and she was friends with their mothers. This time is different. There won't be anyone here to ask him for mercy on their behalf.
Also, Cahir and Parry will be arriving. He explains they found out who the rogues were and who was coming from Phylicia, Starr, and Delilah. Jenna didn’t do any patrolling that they knew of. They want to know how the two women were close to the rogues without being detected.
Joaquin rubs his chin. "Good because I want to see my mate in action. Not to mention if her friends can fight. That may be our chance to know more about them. " He looked at his watch. "Sunshine is in the tub waiting for me. You know what they mean," Joaquin winked as he disappeared.
Byron stares at Joaquin's empty chair thinking, "he avoided the raw meat part."
“As much as I dislike agreeing with the horny woman. Our queen might not be able to walk if the King keeps this up.” Hagen laughed.

A couple of hours later Francemia finally got Joaquin to get dressed after saying she was starving. Joaquin planned to take her to Lavo Italian Restaurant in Las Vegas. After making love in the tub, on the floor in the bathroom, and the balcony, he thought he would let her choose where they would go. So he told her anywhere he wanted to go. Joaquin thought his mate would pick a restaurant that was in another country or outside of Texas. He was happy she wanted to go to Copper Creek in Abilene. It’s one of his favorite restaurants.
When they arrived at Copper Creek, Joaquin ordered Crab cakes, Calamari & Cactus, and Pepper Bacon Shrimp for their appetizers. A bottle of Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley, California. Grilled Asparagus salad for Francemia and a Grilled Caesar salad for himself. Two medium-rare 14-ounce Wagyu Ribeye steaks, two loaded baked potatoes, and two Six Layer Chocolate cakes. “Sunshine I’m sorry for invading your thoughts. I hope you don’t mind.”
She grins, "No, not at all. The way I look at it. It only means we'll get to go dancing much faster." Francemia glances at two men and two women entering the restaurant, pointing and staring at them. “Friends or Foes.”
“Foes, definitely foes.” Joaquin gave the blonde-haired man the death stare.
“Dancing may have to wait. If they attempt to do what I hear coming from their pea brains. ” She was looking at Joaquin pouring the champagne.
He shook his head, "Nothing will interrupt our first date night. We'll just have to add killing those bastards as adding an event or pre-warm-up before we dance the night away." Joaquin kisses the back of her hand. A few seconds go by when he realizes that she can hear his former members hearing.
The couple sit down, still staring at Joaquin, but wonder who the woman is because it's the first time they have seen him with the opposite s*x. Diego and Tate can't keep their eyes on the beautiful woman. Meredith and Judith are also staring at Francemia and sniffing. "Human," they say in unison, and turn their noses up.
Tate smirks, "Take a close look at her neck. She's wearing his mark. Well, now the Moon Goddess designed a human for the arrogant beast. Damn, she hit that right on the mark. He's only worthy of a human."
"Damn, I'm shocked as hell the powerful and mighty Lycan King accepted a puny human." Diego laughs "he must be desperate."
The Lycan King having a mate isn't sitting well with either woman. But Meredith more than Judith because she had set her sights on Joaquin when she was a member of his. One night she tried to seduce him and Joaquin threw her into one of the walls in his office and then banished her when she came to. "She looks young. Maybe she isn't his mate and decided to mate with a human. Why would he do that?" She was brought out of her thoughts when Judith nudged her arm. Meredith rolls her eyes at her.
"Tate, after dinner let's congratulate the happy couple." Diego picked up his beer.
Judith ignores Meredith. "For once, can we go out and not fight?"
Diego kissed her cheek. "Little darling, what fun would that be?"
"Fun my ass if you're dead." She was thinking while drinking her glass of Merlot.
