Mackenzie's POV By the time I’m finished, Maxton is starting to stir, the little boy rubbing at his eyes as he yawns, burying his face into the soldier’s chest with a small sigh. Finally pulling back, he looks up at Callan with bleary eyes, frowning as he tries to figure out what’s going on. ‘Hey, you feeling better?’ the soldier asks gruffly, relaxing his hold on the toddler so he can sit up straighter. ‘Where’s Mama?’ Maxton asks, his bottom lip starting to tremble slightly. ‘Right here baby, did you have a good sleep? You were very tired.’ Turning his face to me, Maxton nods slowly, looking relieved when he sees me.
