Chapter 4 - Present - Jordan     "Hey, Sweetheart. How was your day?" As soon as Jordan answered his phone after taking it off the charge, he heard Ria ask him with a smile in her voice, and loud noises in the background. "... Bad...." Trying to process everything that was happening, the teacher took a while to answer her after taking a deep breath. "Today was a completely unlucky day, and It was ALL your damn fault." Sitting on the couch while still holding the puppy, he kept complaining. "Why the heck did you turn off my alarm clock? And where are you? When did you leave?" "One question at a time, Jo. I can't understand what you're talking about if you talk that fast." With a smile yet on her face, Maria negotiated with him as she left the male strip club she was in, hours away from her friend's house. "... Ok, where the hell are you?" Knowing Ria too well, Jordan knew he had no chance if he tried to quarrel with her. "Well... That's a good question." Looking around for any sign with a familiar name, she answered him after getting into her car. "You have no idea where you are, do you?" And as simple as that, the art teacher knew that his friend should have gotten lost again while driving just like the first time they met in his hometown. "Not really... I was watching some gorgeous men take their clothes off at a club called Mr.Macho when I remembered that I didn't tell you that I was leaving." Starting the car, she looked for a place to spend the night while talking to the younger man. "But you needed to see it. I would never have thought there was such a cool place in the middle of nowhere."   ... None of that was any longer a surprise to Jordan as since he met the woman when he was seventeen, she was always like that, and the only words he could think of to describe her were a crazy free spirit... "Okay, okay, Ria. I don't want to know about what you saw or didn't saw in the male strip club." The male ended up commenting when his friend forgot what they were talking about, and began to describe in detail what the dancers were wearing. "And you didn't have to call me to let me know that you left, since that was easy to notice, considering that all of your stuff was gone when I woke up, and by the way, why did you turn my alarm off?" "I know, I just wanted to share some of the show with you." Laughing, she replied. "And why? C'mon, this is very simple too. I needed to charge my phone while I slept." "..." Jordan no longer knew what else he could say to the woman. "Well, then why didn't you turned it on again in the morning when you left?" "... I forgot about it, but c'mon! Your day couldn't have been THAT bad just because of it." Whining like a child, she said when she stopped her car at the first motel she found. "What's the worst thing that could have happened, you arrive late at school?" "Yes, but then I ended up needing to borrow clothes from the football team's coach, because I forgot my extra shirts when I ran out of the house in the morning, so I had nothing to wear after he spilled his coffee in me." "Wow! Did this all happen today?" She asked him, after thanking the receptionist when he handed the key to her room for the night. "That was nothing, after that, my car broke down when I was coming home in the rain, and I couldn't call the mechanic because my cellphone died too, causing me to get all soaked with Fluffy on my way home." "Fluffy? Who's Fluffy?" Locking the bedroom door, she soon asked when she heard the unfamiliar name. "A puppy I found when I was coming home." Looking at the animal that was lying on his lap, Jordan replied, running his hand over the fluffy fur of the puppy that looked like a fur ball now that it was almost dry. * * * "I thought dogs were forbidden in your apartment," Ria mentioned it, reminding me that I was still talking to her on the phone before I answered that they really were banned here like other animals too. "So, are you going to keep it in secret there? I never imagined you would do something like that, Jo." "C'mon, Ria. This is no big deal, besides, it's only a temporary thing until I find a new owner for him." I told her, without thinking if I would really be able to do that when Fluffy woke up out of nowhere, looking at me shocked as if he didn't like my answer. "... Okay, if you say so..." And like myself, she also didn't seem to trust what I had said, unlike the puppy who continued to look at me with his ears down. "By the way, why did you call it Fluffy? Wasn't that a rabbit's name?" Her question made me laugh immediately, making the dog on my lap stare even more confused to me as if he really could understand us perfectly well. "Then I'll send you a picture of him, and we'll see if you won't agree that this is the perfect name for him," I said, smiling at the little one who was swinging his tail happily to me. "He seems to be the cutest black fur ball that exists in the world after his fur dried. I swear you will understand when you see him." "Gosh! Look at you, Jo. I would never have guessed that you were the dog type of person." Now Ria was the one who laughed on the other end of the line. "Okay! Let's see if he really matches his cute name when you send me the photo if not, you'll owe me a drink in the next time that I visit you." My friend wasn't the type who liked drinks due to some bad things that happened in her past, but every time she wanted to bet something with me, she would say that. ... Which sadly, most of the time, it ended up with me having to buy something more expensive than a drink to her... "Sure, but I'm confident that I will not lose this time, so be prepared to pay in the next time we meet," I spoke confidently before she mentioned that I always say that, even if I had only won three times against her.   ... Which, although I didn't like it, was completely true...    Talking a little more with her, we said goodbye when I heard my stomach growl, reminding me that I hadn't eaten yet while I wondered if it would be okay to give the rest of last night's Chinese food to a dog...
