Chapter 5
Restful as his night was, Cole still awoke before the hazy light of dawn was more than a smudge on the horizon. This happened when he slept at Daniel’s mom’s house as well; part of him acknowledged he wasn’t where he was supposed to be and refused to let him sleep too long. Daniel, on the other hand, could sleep through an earthquake while perched at the top of a tree. Cole lay awake next to him, watching the clouds low in the sky turning from gray to pink to yellow against an ever-lightening blue background. It was going to be a nice day, as far as the weather was concerned. As for everything else, Cole tried to be optimistic and hope his presence would go unmarked for most of the service.
