CHAPTER 10 - I SMELT MY MATE

1539 Words
~AIDEN~ I stood by the side of the road, lost. Completely. f*****g. Lost. My wolf was pacing back and forth like a possessed wild animal, whilst I stood there dumbstruck. Her scent was fading fast and I didn’t know what the hell to do.     “Aiden!” Kieran touched my arm sensing my exasperation.     “I smelt her.” My wolf’s eyes were now my own as we both filtered through what was left of the large crowd with our tunnel vision. The hot air like aura’s danced around the many souls, but I couldn’t locate the one which belonged to that beautiful aroma.     “What, you smell Tia again? She must be on her way out. Let’s get you out of here before you try to take her on the pavement!” He wasn’t joking.     “No, not her…” I replied as I drifted slowly down the street with my nose still pointing towards the sky.     “Then who?”     I ignored his question. He was pissing me off and I needed to concentrate. My wolf began to whimper in a way that was new to me.     “Aiden stop!” He tugged on my arm pulling me back towards him.     “If it wasn’t Tia then what the f**k have you smelt? A Hunter?” Kieran was displeased with my inadequate answers to his questions.     “Aiden!” His grip around my arm tightened.     For f***s sake.     “I smelt my mate!” I didn’t have time to answer his f*****g questions in detail, I just needed to find her. We both needed to find her.     “Your mate! What the f**k! You don’t have a mate.”      “Clearly I f*****g do Kieran!” I hissed. Even though he is my brother and my Beta, my wolf was ready to tear him a new arsehole at the accusation that I don’t have a mate.     Bobby stood glued to his position as the atmosphere became tense around us.     I leaned in closer to my younger sibling without losing eye contact.     My body had never felt like this before. My wolf had never felt like this before. The harder I tried to concentrate on Kieran, the harder I failed. I was full of anger, yet a spiritual feeling encased me, almost like an out-of-body experience where I was floating above, watching my life unfold beneath me. It was both perplexing yet exciting. A mixture of desperation and elation. A feeling of enrapturing but also mourning.     The old tales and stories were true. The mating pull was intense and something like no other. Something that just couldn’t be ignored.     “Look… You don’t have to believe me, but I know I have smelt my mate and right now I am losing the trace of her and you are not f*****g helping me!” I panted hard.     My body began to physically tremble as I felt my knees buckle under the grief of not finding her. I was running out of precious time.     Bobby’s head twisted back into the direction of our family business, catching our attention before it bolted back to face us.     His kind and loyal blue eyes were now filled with desperation as they were shifting rapidly to a lighter and almost iced azure. His jowls pulsed as he started to bite on his bottom lip. A rumble vibrated within his throat.     s**t!     TIA!     “Aiden, we need to go… NOW!” Kieran’s expression burnt into me as I subsided. He was right.     Kieran was an unmated wolf too, but he had far more power and control over his wolf. He possessed the gift of a Lycan. Bobby, on the other hand, was barely an adult but was Kieran’s best friend which is why I felt obliged to help.     I knew we needed to get Bobby out of here or his wolf would fully take over which it was already trying to do. We couldn’t have the mating game being played in broad daylight around humans. Plus, Tia would probably kill Bobby for so much as trying to touch her, not to mention how the pack would feel knowing someone other than the Alpha had tried to f**k their Luna.     For the sake of Bobby and my pack, I reluctantly headed towards my car which was parked in the side street next to our building.     “Get in!” Kieran yelled as Bobby tentatively held onto the car door as the scent of Tia grew stronger.     “GET THE f**k IN THE CAR BOBBY!” I wasn’t in the mood for this s**t especially as I was forced to leave my mate somewhere in this goddamn city because of that b***h who I was married too. I didn’t think I could hate her anymore, but now pure disgust, loathing and hostility oozed from every inch of my skin.     To think that my c**k was nearly inside her. Urgh. I rubbed the back of my neck in an attempt to conceal the raised goosebumps of repulsion caused by the thought of being intimate with her.     Kieran reversed my car out of its space and drove down the street making our way out of the city towards one of our lodges.     My head rested up against the cold window as I fantasized about what my mate would look like.     Hell, I didn’t care, I just wanted her.       #   ~MILLIE~ “Hi sweetie, my name is Edd. Take a seat here for me and I will get the colour chart. Sally has told me you would like a change of colour.” A short but pleasant man directed me to a black leather chair which faced away from the high street. His striking blue eyes contrasted against his almost white, floppy hair and his big bold smile was charming. I couldn’t help but grin like a Cheshire cat.     Taking my seat, my eyes darted from left to right, absorbing my surroundings. The design was chic. Most of the walls were white, detailed with a subtle rose gold abstract design. The washbasins, at the far end of the salon, were surrounded by marbled splash-back tiling, and matching dark grey furniture complemented the black leather chairs at each station. Large white and rose gold decorative mirrors hung from the wall and almost rested upon marbled work surfaces in front of each chair.               The sound of hairdryers and laugher circled the room as my eyes quickly skimmed over the other clients who were having their hair tended too. Not wanting to make awkward eye contact, I refocused my eyes onto my appearance once again. This time it was in an actual mirror as opposed to a glass building which made me feel worse.     Is that a grey hair!? What the f…     Before I could examine further, three men attracted my attention.     I could see their reflection in the mirror that I was placed in front of which gave me a clear sight of them without looking like a pervert.     Ohh… I recognise the two of them… It’s the shoulder barge gang.     I watched intently as one looked like he was smelling the air.     That is odd. Why would he smell the air?     I c****d my head to the side inquisitively as my eyes scanned over his physique. Wow, from where I was sitting, he looked hot, although I couldn’t quite make out his facial features. He was dressed impeccably. A woman could always appreciate a man in a suit, especially one built like him.     His three-piece was tailored to perfection and highlighted his shape. The broadness of his chest, the tightness of his waist and the sculpture of his arms. My eyes lowered as he turned. Oh, my… Why hello peachy arse! God, you could crack nuts on that!     A smile curled the corners of my lips as I blushed at my brazen gawp. I felt my body instantly flush with heat and a flutter in my heartbeat. Bloody hell, I don’t think I’ve looked at a guy with preying eyes for years!     “Hello darling. Right, here is the colour chart. I was thinking of something like this. What do you think?” The short man came back and showed me the large book full of hair pieces all different colours.     I reluctantly peeled my eyes away from the mirror and looked down at the chart. “Urmm… Yes… Ummm… I will be honest with you Edd, I really don’t know. It has been such a long time since I have had my hair done.”     “It is ok, don’t worry. Let me work my magic on you.”     I nodded in acceptance. It can’t be any worse than it already is. Greys and all.     My stylist made his way into the back room as I investigated the reflection again to see if the three men were still there, which they were.     The one sniffed the air again.     What is with that?     He looks around him, somewhat perplexed.     Edd approached my workstation with a pot of colour in his hand and made eye contact with the man outside. He waved and flashed a toothy grin.     “W…who’s that?” I asked full bashfulness.     “Who honey, the tall beautiful one?”     “Y-Yes.” I couldn’t help denying the fact that he was truly beautiful.     “That is Aiden Mulross. He owns most of the buildings in this city. Isn’t he dreamy?”     “Oh completely.” He really was ‘dreamy’… I don’t think I’d ever used that word to describe a handsome man before.     “Right, let’s get to work.”
