“I can’t believe she had a soul parasite and we did not even know! Some mates we are!” Eric grumped. It was night time and the stars where shining. Jamie had fallen fast asleep by the fire Eric had lit, which had not surprised them at all because she had eaten dinner like she was on the verge of starvation. It was a good thing Richard was such a good fisherman! Edward had gone back to the mountain fort, to help out Harper and give them some privacy. Jamie had told them what had happened and Richard had to stop Amon from teleporting her somewhere very isolated.
“Don’t be ridiculous! Vanth blocked your Mate bonds to stop the parasite from draining you as well. There is no way you could have known” Fluff mind-linked as he was cleaning himself after a fish supper.
“I thought you were suppose do what is in her best interests!” Richard suddenly snapped
“And I do, but there is always more go on then you or I know” Fluff said mysteriously. Fluff stopped cleaning himself and positioned himself in his favourite place .....on Jamie. Jamie was use to it and just murmured “Good Fluffy”
“Well it does not matter, the parasite is gone now and we have to decide what to do next” Eric said. As a mortal he was used to the mysterious workings of the Gods and was far more accepting of them then Richard.
“That is easy, she will come back with me to the fort whilst you finish your mission, then she go back to you” Richard said laying back and looking at the stars. Jamie was snoring softly and he smiled, he missed that sound so much.
“I am agreeable with that” Eric said. He knew there was now safer place for his Trickster Queen then at one of her mates side.
“Well it is a shame that is not going to happen then, isn’t it?” A familiar old women’s voice said. Richard growled as a old women with crooked teeth, bright blue eyes and a stick appeared by the fire. She sat herself down and Fluff ran over and started purring.
“Goddess” Eric said bowing his head. He was a devout follower of the Crone Goddess, but even if he weren’t he would show respect. The Crone Goddess was not one to be messed with, especially when her remits include revenge and trickery.
“Hello young one. Your parents said to pass on their regards” The Crone said
“Thank you, but I am pretty sure my Mother was not so polite” Fluff replied and The Crone chuckled. Bastet, the marmalade Cat Goddess was a force to be reckoned with. Even the high Gods thought twice about crossing her path.
“Hello Aunty” Jamie murmured again before rolling over and snoring again.
“I see the Soul Burning has worked. Those Grumpy rats with wings did something right for a change!” The Crone Goddess remarked
“I know this is not a social visit, so what do you want?” Richard snapped. When the Crone turned up there was always trouble.
“Now, now! Is that anyway to talk to your Mate’s Aunty?” The Crone said
“Cut the crap, why are you here?” Richard snapped again
“I do like a man who can cut straight to the point! Fine! She must stay here and be trained by the Weavers. It is her destiny and she need it for what is coming” The Crone said
“I suppose we can’t have no clue about what that is?” Eric said drily. He was used to the Crone’s ways.
The Crone’s eyes narrowed and said “I can tell you two things. First, the Chaos pits are being emptied which means more immortal creatures will be released on this realm. Like all Chaos creatures, some will be chaotic good, some will be Chaotic Evil and some won’t give a crap either way”
At this point Richard grumped and magicked a new log on to the fire. It crackled as it was consumed in flames. Richard had know this was coming, he had known for the last two thousand years.
“And the other?” Eric asked.
“ The victor of the Chaos wars will be decided in the realm of the mortals” The Crone Goddess said.
There was a few moments silence before Richard spoke “Don’t you think she been through enough without that resting on her shoulders?”
“Don’t you think I am aware of what she has been through? You know children of Gods are very rare and have a tendency to change things!” The Crone snapped. Richard knew she was right! Hybrids, Demi gods and animal Gods children were common, but a pure high God Child? One every 10 million years or so if that! That is why the God’s of Light court went mad with joy when Jamie was born and were equally as devastated when she was banished to the void. Not that she was known as Jamie then, but Celeste. However, he knew Jamie preferred her mortal name.
“So she has to stay here to be trained?” Eric said grumpily. He was not too happy about this either, but he knew better then to argue with a high Goddess.
“Exactly, now pass me some of that fish” The Crone ordered.
“The path is set? There is no changing it?” Fluff mind linked privately.
“No, it has been ordained by Father Light and Mother Universe. I can not see past their decision” The Crone replied so that only Fluff would hear.
“s**t, these two are not going to cope!” Fluff mind-linked worried
“You better prepare these two, because if my plan does not work..” The Crone left the sentence unfinished as she started to suck on a fish eye.
Meanwhile, Jamie was in the Dream Realm star gazing. She was contented as she was sitting on a grassy hill laying down looking at the stars.
“Well as far as dreams go, this ain’t so bad!” Jamie said with a sigh. She missed the seeing the stars, but she had been recently seeing them in her dreams. Suddenly Jamie found herself looking at black horse’s head with a red pair eyes. It was a Night Mare, creatures who brought nightmares to all beings.
The horse snorted into Jamie’s face and started nibbling on her hair. Suddenly something occurred to Jamie.
“Mareritt? Is that you?” Jamie said getting up and the Night Mare nodded and snorted.
“Thank you for showing me those visions in the Trickster Queen’s ordeals! You save a lot of lives!” Jamie said respectfully bowing her head. The Mare had warned her of a attack that was planned at her Coronation Party. Jamie had been able to act and stop it just in time.
Mareritt reared and suddenly the scene changed. She was now in a beautiful Library, complete with a burning fire, desk and sofas. By the fire was a small table with two chairs. On the table was a chessboard and in one of the seats was Niorun.
“Ahh I see Mareritt has found you! Please come and sit down. You don’t play chess by any chance?” Niorun said with a smile.
