Chapter 9

2541 Words
Meanwhile back at the house, Charlie, Denise, Nina and I are all sharing memories over 2nd meal.  Mainly, to give Nina a better understanding of her future daughter-in-law.  I was blushing up a storm at what Charlie and Denise were telling her.  In some cases, Charlie was directly sharing the memory with all of us.  These were the times, I wish I had never shown her how to do that.  Most of them are of me fighting with different warriors once I turned 13 and Lottie showed herself.  The looks on those full grown men’s faces when they got beaten by a little girl – Priceless.  Nina shared some with Jason through their link. After eating, Nina and I went to box up Carlotta’s stuff and Denise and Charlie worked on Mama’s.  I could hear Charlie breakdown every once in a while just because of Mama’s scent on the item she was packing. Char:  Nina, I’m gonna trade jobs with Charlie.  It’s breaking my heart to hear her crying as she packs Mama’s things. Nina:  Of course, I will try to help her with your older sister’s items, it might be easier on her since you both hate her now. Char:  Got that right, hope they throw her in segregation soon.  (Running downstairs) Charlie, you go up and help Nina.  Who knows, you might find some of your missing stuff.  Carlotta was such a clepto, you know. Charlie (Sniffling): Ok, Char.  Thank you, I know why you are doing this.  Please don’t hold your emotions in trying to be strong for us.  I worry about you, little sis.  You take the world’s problems on as your own, and never take time for yourself. Nina (Taking Charlie by the shoulders and helping her upstairs):  We will help her grieve tonight, ok? Charlie:  Thanks, Nina.  You are gonna be a great mom-in-law to her.  She really does want to help everyone, you should see her with the pack pups, and they all love her.  She will be missed when she goes to your pack.  (Tearing up again.) Nina:  We will make sure she comes and visits as often as she can, k? Charlie:  That would be great, maybe she’ll find my mate in your warriors.  (Blushes) Nina:  How exactly does she help others find their mates?  I am still confused on that. Charlie:  She has an extremely sensitive smelling ability.  When she smells 2 scents that match each other, like one has an apple smell and the other cinnamon, she knows they are mates.  It’s more complicated than that, because each wolf’s scent is unique.  She can go through an area and smell everyone and search her memory for any scents that meld perfectly with those she just learned.  Since she remembers everything she is exposed to, she knows where to send the male to find his mate.  So far, she’s matched 25, or 26 if you count her and Julius. Nina:  That is very interesting, we have a lot of unmated females in our pack house.  Maybe she can help them find their mates.  Some are like your older sister, always smelling of several males at the same time.  I really would like to have a reason to send them back to their own packs, and leave our warriors to focus on training instead of other forms of exercise. Charlie (Blushes, as it dawn on her what Nina is talking about.):  She will have your pack house cleared of the hoes in less than a week, if you let her. Nina:  Jason and I will welcome it.  We will wait with baited breathe until your mourning period is done and she can clean house. Charlie:  You don’t have to wait.  Lottie has been in control of Jason, she can get him to let her back in control and start sniffing.  The great thing is that for 48 hours after she takes control, the person she took over has her abilities and immunities.  So, Jason would be able to go around and sniff everyone and then be able to tell who is a match and who isn’t.  Once she performs a match or shows his wolf how to, he has that skill for life.  Like when she fought Lucas earlier, yes, she linked with me to show how cool it was.  Jason can now do all those moves either in human or Lycan form. Nina:  Your dad was right.  Char is one of a kind. Charlie:  She is, that is why I beg you please take good care of her.  Nina (Hugs Charlie close):  We will, Charlie, we will. Downstairs Char and Denise have all of Mama’s clothes packed up.  Denise is gathering up anything that is left with a strong enough scent for her to smell, and Char is putting boxes in the back of the trucks.   Aunt Denise kept Uncle Edwards truck and Char has it loaded, and starts to head inside to start 3rd meal.  Before she makes it to the porch, she sees a group of males drunk heading toward her.  She recognizes the scent of 3 from Carlotta the other day.  Char:  {Denise, are there any warriors close to us right now?  There are 5 very drunk males headed this way and they aren’t coming to say prayers with us.} Denise: {I’m putting a call out now.  I’ll let Edward know, too.} Char:  {Don’t bother Uncle Edward, they are too far away to get here in time.  If there are no warriors close, I can take them to church.} Denise (Yelling):  Charlie, Nina, can you find any of Char’s really hidden weapons?  We have a situation going on outside with a group of drunks, she may need to fight them. Charlie:  I know where her ultra-secret cache is.  {I’m gonna toss your rifles out your window in a minute, be ready to catch them.} Char: {Ready and waiting, sis.} Charlie runs to Charlotte’s room and opens the panel behind her closet wall.  Revealing to them a various array of firearms.  She grabs 2 assault rifles, quickly makes sure they are loaded and runs to the window.  Looking down at Char, she drops them into her waiting hands. Char (Catches the rifles without looking):  You men need to leave before one of you gets hurt. Drunk Guy 1:  Bullets can’t kill us, little girl. Char:  No, but they hurt like hell when they go in and again when they go out.  There are pack warriors on the way, I don’t have to kill you.  I can just blow all of your knee caps off and your wolves won’t be able to heal you in time.  {Denise, these are rogues.  I can smell it on them.}  So, it seems 3 of you knew my oldest sister, Carlotta. Drunk Guy 2:  Yeah, she said we could come here for a good time.  Smells like there are 4 of you females here, but not a single male to help you. Char:  Carlotta failed to tell you guys, I’m the fiercest warrior in this pack.  I killed 3 guys in less than 4 minutes last week and they weren't as drunk as you all are.  Besides, remember knee caps.  I shoot them out your all are puppy chow, when the warriors get here. Drunk Guy 1:  Who’s gonna call for them, you? Char:  No, I didn’t call them.  Drunk Guy 2:  So, you are bluffing. Char:  No, the pack Luna is inside and she called them.  In fact, the sounds you hear of running wolves would be them coming around the house right now.  (Waves at warriors.)  Howdy, guys, you just saved these rogues from having to heal their knees.  The warriors quickly get control of the rogues and take them away.  Leaving a couple behind to keep watch over the ladies,   Troy:  Char, were did you get those rifles?  Char:  E-Bay.  I know, hand them over. Troy:   That’s right, Baby girl, your dad’s orders.  Your mate is really gonna have his hands full keeping you away from weapons. Char:  What can I say?  I don’t discriminate against any type of weapon.  I can handle them all.  (Hands Troy the rifles after putting the safety back on.)  There, happy? Troy:  After we collect the ones your dad says you have hidden inside and the ammo, yes, I will be very happy. Char:  {Daddy!!! Don’t take all my toys.} Carlos:  {Baby girl, we have talked about you using firearms.  Besides, we are just following Julius’ recommendation on this one.  He doesn’t like you having so many weapons at your disposal.  We are doing a complete sweep of the house when we get back.  Got it?} Char:  {Yes, Daddy.  Can pass a message to Julius from me, please?} Carlos:  {Go ahead.} Char:  {(STICKS OUT HER TONGUE!) Meanie!} Carlos:  {(ROFLING) I will pass that along.  Go help Troy and Gus pack your guns and ammo up, now.  Even the one you have hidden in the crawl space, Baby girl.  Thought you could get away with that one, huh?} Char:  {Dang it! Yes, sir. (Sticks out her tongue)} Carlos:  {I saw that.  (Still ROFLING)} Char: {I know!} Breaking the link, I go and help the warriors inside pack up my firearms, including the semi-automatic I had hidden in the crawl space under my bedroom floor.  Smiling a bit to myself, since I’m the only one in my mind right now, I can think about the AR-14 and Smith and Wesson Magnum .44,  I have hidden in my training lair along with the ammo for them.  I hide that secret deep in my mind, where they would have to know what they are searching for to find.  Once, they have the drunks and my weapons in the trucks they came in, I say my good-byes and Aunt Denise gives them the thanks and appreciation from all of us for coming to our rescue so quickly.  We both head back inside and Charlie moves to give me a hug, but Jordan beats her to it, throwing himself in my arms. Jordan:  Where did you get all those big guns?  Have you ever shot any of them?  What was it like?  Can you teach me how to use them?  Why did the warriors take them?  Did they need them to help keep the bad men in line?  Would you have really shot those bad men?  Have you ever been shot?  Does it hurt? Nina:  Jordan James Warmder!  (Uh oh, full name.) Stop pestering Char with a thousand questions about her weapon collection.  Come on, it’s time to get cleaning up and eat our 3rd meal. She plucked him out of my arms and began to take him upstairs to the big bathroom.  I winked at him over her shoulder. Char: Don’t worry, little warrior.  When you are old enough your Daddy will teach you about each gun.  For now, enjoy being yourself, don’t try to be older just because you want to be like your brothers or me. I could tell Nina wasn’t happy with me for having so many weapons around the house, but she knew I had them hidden in spots no one outside the family would know to look.  I shook my head at the thoughts inside and moved to start 3rd meal with Charlie’s help.  She and I cooked well together, I handled the main course and she took over making the sides.  Aunt Denise tried to help, but we shooed her away telling her to go relax for a bit.  We were starting to get our mojo back, it’s hard to believe how much has happened to us in the last 5 days.  Mama’s funeral is set for that Saturday coming in 2 days, Daddy and the men were heading back after first light in the morning.  Charlie and I prepped somethings so that we would have 1st meal on the table when they all got here.  After eating, Nina and Denise insisted on doing the dishes, while Jordan “helped” Charlie and I sniff out anything left with a strong scent of Mama and pack the last of Carlotta’s junk into the final boxes.  I was trying to get her bed out the window when the sounds of trucks came to my ears.  Tensing up, I shot Charlie a glance telling her to watch Jordan and ran downstairs, trying to act casual. Char:  Aunt Denise, were the warriors coming back after they dropped the drunk rogues in the dungeon and the weapons with the smithy? Denise:  What?  Hmm no, Char.  They were going to go back on patrol.  (Seeing my face change.) What’s wrong, Baby girl? Char:  I heard some trucks headed this way, I’m going to the roof to see if I can spot them.  Denise:  Dang, your hearing is something else, let me know what you see. Char:  I’ll keep the link open.  I run out the front door, climb on the porch railing and grab the overhang, swinging myself up onto the roof of the porch.  Quickly, I climb up the branches of the nearest tree to get to the tip top of our roof.  Looking in the direction of the sound, I get 2.0 to enhance my night vision.  And I report in to Aunt Denise. Char:  {There are 5 trucks about 9 miles out, Aunt Denise.  I can’t make out the occupants yet, they are too far away.  They appear to be going about 50 or 60 mph.  I’m going to shift and go see if I can get closer.  I’ll kick into 4th gear and report back soon.} I shimmy down the tree, and let Lottie take over.  Soon we are heading straight for the trucks at 80 mph.  I know in a hand to hand situation without weapons I can take on at least 5 warriors, but as I get closer the trucks appear to have at least 15 men inside and riding in the beds.  I reach the point of no return where I am coming up on them fast, less than 2 miles from them, I know I have to make a decision.  Do I stand and fight here and hope to keep them from getting to the house? I stop and go on my hind legs, howling at the top of my lungs.  The trucks slow and stop about 20 feet from me.  Something is off about this.  I stare at the driver of the truck closest and realize, it’s Uncle Edward. Char: {It’s Uncle Edward, Daddy and the men.  They are coming back now.} (I tell Denise) Edward’s head bounces forward as climbs out of his truck. Edward:  OUCH!  Char, did you really have to teach her how to hit me so hard in our link.  I’m going to have a headache from that one. Still on alert, Lottie turns to look off to the left side of where the men have stopped.  We drop back down to all fours and our tail begins to twitch in agitation.  We jump up onto the roof of the closest truck and peer out looking to see what has our fur bristling.  Then we see them.  A group of 20 or so men heading this way.  Sniffing the air deeply we catch their scent.  ROGUES.
