I stepped back from Nina and apologized for how long that took, we head back to the truck and hop in to go back to the house.
Nina: I saw it all, Lucas got his ego taken down a few notches today. Which he needed for sure. Char, you said you’ve been training for 15 years, but how is that possible.
Char: Well, I was a very unique child. Instead of sleeping all the time as a baby, I demanded to be placed where I could see Daddy training the warriors. Mama would have to make him stop every couple hours to feed me, because I wouldn’t let her if they were sparring. I didn’t want to miss a single movement they did, I committed it all to memory. Daddy loves sharing the memory of my first steps at 6 months old, but it was more like my first run, barrel roll and kill.
Nina: What happened?
Char: I was laying on a blanket next to Mama, and heard a hissing noise near Carlotta. I looked into Daddy’s mind to identify the sound and it was a rattlesnake. Quickly, I searched his memory on how to kill a snake and jumped up from where I was. Since, I was so close to the ground I could see the snake getting closer to my sister. Using what I knew, I ran to the snake, and did a barrel roll to get behind it. I grabbed it by the tail and flicked my wrist as hard as I could to break its neck, then I tossed to it to the side and Daddy was there by then and cut its head off to make sure it was dead. Mama came over and scooped up Carlotta and Charlie to take them inside and Daddy got me. I can still remember him saying how proud he was of me saving my big sister like that in my mind as we went inside. After that I was very mobile and Mama had a hard time keeping up with me. More often than not, she would hand me off to Daddy after I was changed and fed. The warriors thought of me as a mascot, I mean here is a 1 year old doing the same movements they are doing, or at least as well as I could with my short arms and legs at the time. You can ask Daddy, he is happy to share the memory of me practicing kicks and punches on a tiny dummy the weapons smith made just for me. Even Uncle Edward was there most days, and saw me.
Nina: {Jason, you have to get Carlos and Edward to share their memories of Charlotte and her tiny dummy when she was 1 year old. I want to be linked in and see them with you.}
Jason: {How old was she when she started training?}
Nina: {She had her first kill, a snake, at 6 months old.}
Jason: {No way. One second.} Carlos, did Charlotte kill a snake when she was 6 months old?
Carlos: Yeah, she was impressive and it was so cute.
Jason: And what about her practice dummy?
Edward: Oh, I had almost forgot about that, Troy made it for her. It stood about a foot taller than she was at 1 year old and she would mimic the warriors who were kicking and punching their full size dummies. Man, Carlos, she was too adorable for words. Still is, but she has grown up so fast. From barrel rolls to flipping grown men in a single jump. You really shouldn’t let her watch those Marvel movies anymore, she is beginning to get their fight sequences down pat.
Carlos: I know that move today was clearing from Iron Man 2, she loves Black Widow. I just can’t believe how fast she’s grown up.
Jason: Would you be willing to share those memories with us? I would love to see my future daughter-in-law in action, and I’m sure Julius is curious now.
Julius: Definitely, would love to see my mate’s first kill. What kind of snake was it?
Carlos: Diamondback Rattlesnake. It was about to strike Carlotta, now I kind of wish Charlotte hadn’t stopped it. If Carlotta had died then my wife would still be alive.
Julius: Char could have been killed if it had swung back and bite her instead.
Carlos: Not Char, she searched my mind and found out what it was and how to kill it. She really was impressive, she rolled up to its back and snapped it like a whip breaking the neck instantly. Then I swear she watched me throw my dagger at it after she tossed it away. I think that is why she is the best knife/dagger thrower this pack has ever had. Troy, our weapons smith, made her kid’s sized knives to use for her 3rd birthday. She got mad at the toy ones, others had given her and began running behind the warriors and gathering up their daggers to use. Of course, they were just a bit too heavy for her to handle and her Mama yelled at me the first time she came home with a cut on her leg from dropping one. Carrie, my wife, was livid, but Char was determined. She is a little spitfire when she wants something. Julius, you will have your hands full with her, trust me.
Edward: The best piece of advice I can think of is when she gets obsessed with something, it’s best to find ways to distract her or she will literally stop eating, drinking, sleeping, etc… Oh, and I hope you guys have an earthmover on pack territory, she loves to find things buried deep in the ground. I’ve lost track of how many chests she’s found since she learned how to operate that thing.
Carlos: Close to 30, and about 10 before when she would just dig them out by hand. Can’t believe she’s so good at operating heavy machinery like that. She is one of a kind that is for sure.
Julius: Dad, we may have a new machine operator on our hands for that building you were thinking of adding.
Jason: Is she really that good, Carlos? What machines can she operate?
Carlos: All of them, and she knows carpentry, mechanics, aviation and more. Basically, if it has a motor she can drive, fly, operate or fix it. She tests out of her grade level within 2 weeks each year and that means she has tons of time on her hands to do other things. Most days, she is in the pack library, I think she’s gone through almost every book, including a few that are 18+ that I’m not happy about.
Lucas: What books do you have that are 18+?
Julius: s*x books, most likely.
Carlos: Yes, and I have had words with the librarian about where they are placed in the library. Now you have to be on a ladder to reach them. Maggie, our librarian, was embarrassed Char got ahold of them, especially when Char started asking questions about some of the pictures in one.
Lucas: Julius, looks like you are going to have a wild time on your honeymoon with this one when the time comes. (Evil laugh)
Jason: Knock it off, Lucas. She’s still too young and still pure, which she will remain until her wedding night.
Carlos: Damn straight, that’s my Baby girl you’re talking about. She would kick your butt if you try to mess with her like that. Heck, she killed 3 of the 5 guys who attacked her before Edward or I could even get there. Lottie is super protective of her, so if you don’t want her to make you sing soprano permanently, you should leave her alone, Lucas. Julius, try anything before you mark her as your mate and I will personally castrate you, understand?
Julius: Yes, sir. You don’t have to worry, I want her to be pure on our wedding night, too.
After that some of the men decide to go hunting for dinner and the others get the fire going and ready to cook.
