He choked trying to say something. She leaned down, kissing his lips as the life drained from him. Her eyes glowed neon blue as she looked up at me. I could see golden mist flowing from his lips to hers. And then she smirked. After inhaling all the glowing mist, she closed her eyelids.
"Rest in peace, love." She stood up and walked towards me. I wonder which of them was the craziest. The guy obsessed with her or she who pretends to be dead and then kills the guy that loved her to the edge of his sanity. Felix jumped in front of me as she got closer. He was baring his fangs at her.
"Your Master is dead, you don't have to protect the human with your life anymore." Her voice was different from mine. It had a husky, seductive tone to it. I bet she could get anyone to do anything for her, by just asking.
"I don't care, I have made a promise to protect Kaitlinn and I will!"
"Kaitlinn!" The way my name left her mouth made it sound so dirty. She smirked, her glowing blue eyes looking over me.
"Move! Or I'l kill you!" She hissed at him. He stood his ground. I didn't see what happened. It was too fast, but I saw the aftermath. Felix's heart was in her hand. His eyes were big from shock as he fell on the ground. I sunk down next to him.
"No, Felix, please don't die. You are my best friend!" It was a foolish notion to ask for, he didn't have a heart. I started to cry. My tears landed on him.
"Oh don't cry over a vampire, it's disgusting."
"Why did you have to kill him?" He was the 10th person to die because of me.
"Well he wasn't listening to me and I was going to kill him in the end anyway, so why stall the inevitable." She giggled again. How could she be so cruel? She picked him up, kissing his lips. This time, black mist flowed between their lips. She let him fall again. I crawled backwards into a corner. I was terrified of her, she's cruel and crazy, which is a terrible combination.
"Well, now I have some serious conflict. I want to kill you for dating my now dead Mate, but it would be like killing myself and that would just erase my last bit of humanity." Now I am just hoping she doesn't see all the differences between us.
"I wasn't dating him!" I can't believe I said that out loud. I just want to smack myself on the head right now.
"Excuse me, what did you say?" I just kept quiet.
"It would be better if you told me I have a short temper and if it slips I might just torture it out of you, you know what, please don't tell me this could become fun." Wow she doesn't know the word subtle.
"He bought me at a slave auction, because I look like you and he's slowly been trying to turn me into you." I said it in a mere whisper, but I knew she could hear me, I learned that the hard way with Dillan.
"Well, that changes things, now I don't want to kill you for dating him, but I could still kill you because you're just a pathetic slave that no one would miss. How sad for you." I already knew my life wasn't all that great and here she is just rubbing it in my face.
"Please don't kill me!" I whispered again as she stood over me.
"Don't beg, it's pathetic, and you're too hot to beg!" She is basically complementing herself. She grabbed me by the shirt, lifting me up. She had the dagger in her hand again. She slammed it down to plunge it into my heart. I closed my eyes tightly. So this is the moment I die. I imagined this moment lots of times, but I’ve never imagined I'd be killed by my twin -by looks only, thank goodness for that. I waited for it to pierce my skin, but it never happened. I opened my eyes to see the dagger a millimeter away from my heart.
"Arg!" She let me fall to the ground again. She started pacing the hallway mumbling to herself. I watched her closely. Her eyes were darker than mine and her nose was pointier. Our faces didn't even look that much alike. She could be my older sister, but we would never be twins. Even her hair was darker than mine. I don't know what he was thinking.
"Okay, so I can't kill you because that would be like killing myself. Oh, but I won't let you just go. No, that would be too easy. Not to mention that no one even knows that I’m alive and I would like to keep it that way until it fits me."
"I won't tell anyone, I promise." She smirked at me and I knew it wasn't good.
"I know you won't! I’ll make sure of it. I’ll just take you back to the auction house." That is much worse; I'd rather she killed me.
"Oh don't look so depressed, at least you won't be dead." She rolled her eyes, pulling her perfectly manicured nails through her hair.
"Come on already! I don't have all night, you know." I got up on shaky legs.
"What was that mist that you took from them?" Her head whipped around to me. She giggled again in her cruel way that makes my skin crawl.
"Well, aren't you a curious one? It was like their life force that was left after their death. All their strength and accomplishment they have achieved. It keeps me young and youthful longer. And yes, we don't age, but it gives me radiance and beauty. It also gives me all the power I want."
"So you kill people to obtain power." I said in a small voice, afraid she would get angry.
"See you get it and I used to think humans were dumb!" I don't think she can help insulting me at this point.
"But isn't it wrong?" Mudering is wrong, not having a legit reason for it is worse.
"Well, it is like a p*****t I have to give back to the witch that helped me get away from Dillan."
"How is it a p*****t?" She stopped turning to me.
"Look, I didn't want a mate, I wanted to be free and explore. But when I got my mate I accepted it. It is part of my species, I didn't want to disobey. Dillan was so cute when we met, those big brown eyes of his always sparkling when he looked at me and that bouncy blonde hair of his always in his eyes making him seem like such an innocent boy, but something changed. He started obsessing over every little thing. He got so controlling and possessive, he would hurt me and not even notice. That says a lot, because my touch calmed him down. I couldn't take it anymore, I loved him so much that it physically and emotionally hurt me. The thought of leaving him shattered my heart. I was in the woods crying. I didn't want anyone in the pack to see me, so I always went out there. The witch appeared next to me. She comforted me, so I told her everything. She said she could help. She said she could make me feel nothing. That is how we set everything up. I knew he would come looking for me if I was gone too long. She made it look like I was attacked by rouges. I had actual wounds from actual rouge wolves and I thought I would really die. She put me to sleep. Almost stopping my heart completely. I was still aware of everything around me. So when he found me I could hear him sobbing, I could feel his tears on me." She touched her cheek as if remembering the tears falling there.
"But I knew it was for the best. He was ill mentally because of me. I knew he would become normal again if I was gone. He carried me to the pack house and the pack doctor declared me dead. They buried me two days later."
"When everything was still, I was dug up and woken up. I was hurting so badly. My heart ached for my mate. She said that she promised that I wouldn't feel pain, but it would cost me. She used this dagger and cut my hand. She had me do a binding spell. It binds us together. She handed me the dagger. She told me that I had to kill to keep the pain away. All the sins of the people I kill will go to her feeding her power and I’ll get all their life force to feed my broken heart. It's rather poetic... Oh don't look at me with those judgy little eyes! You have never felt the pain of losing a mate! It was unbearable, it felt as if I was dead. My heart was burning from the ache. I wished for death, so I took her proposal. My main thought was that at least my mate would get to be alive and he would get better, but then he found you. He couldn't get better. All that I could do to ease his pain was to kill him."
"I’m sorry." She was hurting, she went about it completely wrong, but she only did it to ease her pain and help the man she loves.
"I don't want sympathy. I just want you to get moving. I want to get this over with before I kill you and loose my last bit of humanity." I started following her as fast as I could. She did all this for him, it is twisted, but she loved him just as much as he loved her. I can't imagine the pain she would feel if she stopped killing with that dagger of hers. Outside there was a van. She pushed me into it.
"Burn the place down." She ordered the one shirtless guy. After the house was in flames, they drove off.
"When we get to the auction house you agree with everything that is said, don't even try anything funny. I can't kill you, but my wolves can, got it?" I nodded slowly. I tried staying awake, but I was really tired. I had a long day and I was so uncomfortable with Dillan next to me that I stayed awake against my body's wishes. So I was surprised when the van stopped making me roll against one of the guys.
"Take her inside and say you found her wondering around." He took me to the small door at the back. I cringe from the memories of this place. He knocked on the door. The door was pulled open hard. I looked into the icy blue eyes of Rufus.
"Well, if it isn't sweet Kaitlinn!" He smirked. I could imagine him licking his lips in anticipation.
"I found it wandering around in the streets, since you know it, you can have it." He threw me forward into Rufus' arms, before turning and leaving.
"It didn't take you long to get away from Dillan. What has it been like 10 months?" He laughed. He pulled his arm around me, gently tugging me with him. Okay, maybe I prejudged him. Maybe he isn't that bad! At least he isn't hurting me. My arm already feels sore. I bet there is going to be a bruise. Everyone always tugs me around by the arm.
"11." He looked down at me smiling. He knocked on the door. The receptionist girl wasn't there yet.
"This better be good!" Came an annoyed voice. Rufus opened the door, walking in with me.
"Look who came to visit us!" The old guy looked up from some papers. He looked me over.
"Dillan isn't going to be happy with you, dear. I’ll call him a bit later."
"Don't waste your time. Felix and he died." It was the first full sentence I actually talked since I got here. They both stared at me shocked. I could see that they didn't believe me. They thought I just didn't want to go back.
"Fine, don't believe me! Go to the house he bought me, you'll find their ashes where the hall used to be or maybe even just burned bodies." I said with a straight face. I guess reality just settled in; ten people have died because of me. Felix was always so friendly. He actually wanted to keep me safe. He was like a big brother's friend who had the hots for his friend's sister. I felt one single tear running down my cheek. I took a deep breath. I wasn't going to cry in front of them.
"Uhm... Lock her up downstairs. We'll keep her for a day and look out for news surfacing."
"Oh and Rufus, you don't touch her. She may still have an owner and if she doesn't, I still want to keep her value up." He mumbled something to himself before starting to lead me down the hall again. I recognized the path, it led to the door that would take me down the stairs to the cells. Before we got to the door, Rufus pushed me against the wall.
"Please don't move."
"What?" I had no idea why he didn't want me to move.
"And please keep your heart rate low? I know I’m hot and people can't always control themselves around me, but I don't want to kill you." What the hell is he talking about? The next thing I knew, his lips came crashing down on mine and his hands grabbed me around my middle, pulling me to him. Now I understand what he was going on about, but it's hard to keep your heart rate steady when you're being kissed like this. He slowly pulled away. He looked me in the eyes and smiled.
"Congrats, you are the first girl I have kissed and lived to sing my praises, this time." I frowned as he started leading me again. He opened the door. I could see the stairs.
"Rufus, what do you mean?"
"I have trouble with control and when I hear a heartbeat racing I have the urge to rip open the throat and just surrender to the warm blood being pumped through the glorious body by the heart. I almost always kill them unless I’m sleeping with them." His eyes got brighter as he talked about it.
"We should hurry, before I get fired." I frowned.
"Why would you lose your job?" I asked, looking up at him. I gasped as I saw his extended fangs.
"Please go!" I ran down the steps as fast as my two legs could take me. It was clearly not fast enough, since he grabbed me around my middle and, using his vampire speed, he flashed us down. He had trouble with the cell lock, but managed it even with his shaky hands. He was clearly fighting against his instinct. He pushed me into the cell and slammed the gate close. It is a good thing that it had a self-locking mechanism.
"Rufus, are you okay?" Yeah, I’m worried about a guy that is planning on selling me. I guess some of Dillan's insanity rubbed off on me,
"Kaitlinn, just get back! Go hide in the shadows." His eyes were almost completely black, but they shone red. It scared the care right out of me. I ran over to a corner - I coward there. His eyes were completely black and shone bright red now. He grabbed the bars trying to get to me. He gave up after a few moments and disappeared. I took a deep breath, calming myself before I started crying. My life just can't get any worse. I was kidnapped, sold to Fiona, trained to be a s*x slave, sold to a werewolf, traumatized for almost a year and now I’m going to be sold again. I just sat there weeping away my sorrows and horribly bad luck.
