"Oh my God!" Freya said to herself as she drove over to handle the domestic. She couldn't believe Chase was back in town. He was still the most good looking man she had ever laid eyes on. Well over 6 foot. Trim and fit. His sandy brown hair short on the sides and slightly longer on top. She had forgotten how deeply green his eyes were. His shoulders wider than they used to be. It was a little over five years that she had seen him. She had come home for Christmas and he had come home for his grandfather's funeral. She had enlisted in the Marine Corps before graduating. She came home just after boot camp to tell her parents. She had already had orders for her next assignment. She was being deployed to Afghanistan. She was joining an Army intelligence crew. They were tracking down warring sanctions that had been bombing so many innocent villages.
She remembered running into Chase that weekend. Just for a few hours. She was afraid, he was mourning his grandfather. So little time, so much heartache to deal with. She wasn't sure she was ready for more even now. She had never told anyone, other than Peter, her husband, what had happened between Chase and her in those couple hours. Now she wondered if he remembered.
She pulled her squad car in front of the house that she was making a stop at at least every two weeks.
"Shara log me in at 1637 Elm." She spoke into the car radio. "Scott get Tommy tucked in for the night?"
Shara giggled over the radio. "He did chief. Gave him some coffee too. You be careful of Leroy now!" She warned.
"I'm not worried about Leroy, it's Tammy who always has me nervous during these calls. She gets so mad at him!" Shara laughed again. "Okay I'm going in. Have Scott wait for me. I'll be back in as soon as I'm done here." Freya stepped out of her car and sheathed her billy club. Then she moved up the sidewalk to the front door. She rapped on it and the door flew open to Tammy standing there in her pajamas, and hair curlers.
"It's about time Sheriff!" She pushed the screen door open indicating she wanted Freya to come in. "Will you tell this i***t I'm right?"
Freya looked at her in surprise. "Right about what Tammy? I just got here." She smiled. Leroy was sitting at the dining room table with a sandwich in front of him. He raised a brow in hello to her.
"I told him that they are planning to close the factory where he's working and he needs to start looking for another job. He says they ain't and I know what I know."
"Now Tammy, that is just a rumor. I have not heard anything about the factory closing. As far as I know Leroy is not loosing his job."
"Well the ladies at the hair salon were talking about it today. I heard!"
Freya shrugged. "I'm sure Leroy will know before anyone else as he runs the place Tammy. Now, are we all good here tonight, or do I need to get a bed ready down at the jail?' She was eyeing Tammy.
"No we're all good." She blushed. "I'm sorry Freya. We'll keep it down." Leroy was nodding too.
"Okay folks, then you have a good evening" She waved and walked back to her car. "Okay Shara, I'm heading in."
