CHAPTER 33: REBECCA'S PAST

"Mom," Czarina went to her parents' room. Her father was not there yet. She knocked before opening the door.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
"Czarina. Come in." Rebecca tapped the space of the bed beside her, telling her to sit down. She entered the room and closed the door behind her.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
"I miss you, Mom," she said. She leaned her head on her mother's shoulder.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
"I miss you, too, sweetheart." She tapped her cheek slightly. "You need to know the truth."
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
"I'm listening, Mom," she replied. "I also want to know more about my mother."
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
"I will tell you everything about her." She cleared her throat. She felt she was choking, She missed her Mistress Pegaz a lot. "Your mother is one of the kindest goddesses of all. She saved me and I owe my life to her."
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
"What happened?" She waited for her mother to continue her story.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
"I was just a kid when our village was attacked by the Nedos. Almost everyone died, even my entire family. Then Pegaz came and slayed all Nedos who murdered the people in our community. I was the only one who survived that night. I thought Nedos were isolated on their island, but some probably have lived outside even before their region was surrounded by a barrier, or they found a way to pass through the magic barrier."
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
She recalled what happened in the past.
"Slay them all!" one of the Nedos was wearing black clothes and half of their faces were covered by black mask. "Don't leave even a single life!"
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
Several Nedos charged towards the village. There were more or less fifty assassins at that moment, killing every single villagers they saw on the streets. They wore black robes and black masks. The one who was riding a horse was carrying a flag with the ancient logo of Nedostojan.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
People were running, trying to escape death from the hands of the greedy clan. Some magicians from the village tried to fight back to protect their people and loved ones, but the Nedos were too powerful to defeat, and they were ruthless. They kill even kids and women.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
"Make sure everyone dies tonight!" the man on the horse screamed, He waved the flag of Nedostojan, proudly telling everyone where they cam e from. "The rise of Nedostojan is coming. We will take over the kingdom and rule everyone. It's time to reclaim what's ours."
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
The Nedos trespass and entered every house to kill the residents. No one will be left alive.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
Screams were heard everywhere, including Rebecca's mother while sitting on the floor, hugging her father who was slayed. The Nedos standing in front of her mother were laughing while looking down at the poor woman.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
Rebecca was hiding behind the stairs and covered by empty boxes. She wanted to go out and save her mother, but she saw her Mom looking at her direction and shook her head, telling her not to go out. She smiled and looked up to Nedos. "Go and kill me, if that's your happiness." Her mother closed her eyes and waited for her demise.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
Rebecca saw the man raised his sword and slashed her mother. She quickly died on top of her father. She covered her mouth while sobbing. Her mother wanted her to live and sacrificed her life to protect her. She used two hands to cover her mouth while mourning. Her parents were killed in front of her.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
The Nedos were about to leave their house when she accidentally bumped a chopped wood and it created a noise. The Nedos guy turned around and searched where the noise came from.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
The man found her hiding place. He pushed all the boxes that were covering her, and he saw her. She was shaking while staring at the heartless man who was trying to kill her. He raised his sword to s***h her. All she could do was to cry and to close her eyes, waiting for her death. "I'm coming with you, Mom, Dad."
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
She waited but nothing happened. She opened her eyes. She saw a beautiful, tall woman behind the heartless Nedos. Her sword penetrated the man's body from behind.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
She cried in joy and pain. He got help from a beautiful lady.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
The goddess pulled out her sword from the man's body and pushed him down. Rebecca cried and sobbed out of desperation and loneliness.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
The goddess bent down and wiped her tears. "I'm sorry I was a little late. I was not able to save your parents."
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
Rebecca wrapped her arms around the neck of the goddess. "Thank you for saving me."
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
"We need to go. You are the only one alive in the village." The goddess sighed. "I was late. I'm sorry."
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
"What will happen to me? I"m alone now. Everyone's dead. My parents are gone." She sobbed. She unwrapped her arms around the goddess' neck and wiped her tears using her skirt. The goddess laughed a bit because of her mannerism.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
"You are not alone. From now on, you will live with me. Are you willing to serve me? I need a handmaiden but you need to grow up first."
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
"I will be your loyal handmaiden once I am grown up!" she said while still crying.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
"That's my girl. Let's go now. I'll bring you to my house. Tigar and the others will fix everything here." She glanced at the child's parents. "We will bring your parents' remains and bury them properly. You can always pay them a visit."

"Thank you, my goddess," she said.

The goddess snapped her fingers and they both vanished.

They popped into a palace-like house. It was big and grand. "From now on, you will live here with me."
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
Pegaz taught her about magic and fighting skills to protect herself. The immortal goddess also gifted her fire power. She was lucky because not everyone can see immortal gods. They rarely show themselves to public, and never interacted to mortals. Rebecca looked up to her and promised to herself she will remain loyal to the goddess.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
"Your mother raised me well. She sent me to school, taught me a lot of things and she gave me fire power." She raised her hand and showed her fire to Czarina. "You did not inherit your fire from me, you inherited it from your mother, the goddess of the legendary Fire Pegasus Spirit Beast."
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
"How did she and the king have me? I mean..." Czarina could not continue hr question, but Rebecca understood her.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
"They did not have any relationship, but you were conceived through their dreams. You are destined to be born from the goddess and the royal bloodline, Czarina." She brushed her hair using her hand. "You are in danger. The queen... I know she's evil. She had something to do with the attack on your mother that night. I don't have any evidence but she was the only one who had the motive that time to slay your mother. You are the threat on the throne."
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
"I don't understand why some people value money, power and position more than anything else. Why kill because of selfishness?" she asked.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
"You are still young to understand anything about life, Czarina. Once you grow up, you will realize how cruel and selfish adults are."
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
"But you are not selfish, even Dad," she replied.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
"Not all people are evil. There are still good ones who value family, friends and the welfare of other people more than their own desires," she replied. "Like you. You know what is good and bad, and you question injustice. That's the good qualities of a true ruler."
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
"I am not. I don't think I am qualified to be one," she replied.

"You will never know, Czarina, but for now, keep your identity a secret for your own good."
