The Dragon's mate

My fingers accidentally brushed against those of a girl, and electric current flowed through my veins. I was shocked and my feet suddenly stopped, as if, an unknown force, had tied them. However, the moment I turned my head, I could not see anyone that, would make my heart sing. There was a large crowd of students.

Even though I tried hard, my sensory perception failed to detect her.

"When your mate and you have had your first physical contact, even if, it is, for a brief duration, you would feel a sudden surge of energy whenever you meet her. Your mate and you would be able to sense each other."

I could clearly recall His Holiness's words. I knew the changes that were occurring in my body at the moment. It implied that, my mate was more than an ordinary human. I wondered as to why, she was here. It would have been better if, I was able to see my mate. For some strange reason, my mate was not amongst the girls visible in the crowd. I was quite surprised that, I was unable to detect her presence. Did my fingers really brush against those of my mate or was it just an illusion. My body told me that it was indeed our mate.

"She is hiding herself from us." When I heard this voice my doubts were cleared. I was very happy when I heard the familiar voice again. My dragon spoke to me after a whole year. It seemed as if, it had completely awakened now.

"Thank you for returning," I said to my dragon."

"Thank our mate. Today's contact helped me finish my cultivation. I have advanced and we, are more powerful now."

My dragon sounded quite happy.

"Did you see her?"

"I am as clueless as you are. But, I am sure that she is very beautiful." 

"Is there some problem Mr. King."The school's principal interrupted my thoughts.

"No."

I shook my head and decided to leave. My mate, it seemed had also sensed something and, had purposefully hidden herself from me. At this moment, even though, I was quite annoyed, I decided to respect her decision.

"I will find you soon."

I channeled my message such that, my mate could receive it. I left the place immediately after that. When I returned to my palace, Ri was waiting for me. He followed me to my private chamber.

"What news do you have Ri?"

"It seems as if your uncle has been injured."

"What?"

"Yes, he has been burnt badly.” The news made me sit up.

"Are you sure Ri? It is not easy to burn a dragon."

"My intelligence has never failed me."

"This is serious then."

I became quiet for some time. It was hard to recall when last, a dragon was burnt. If my information was correct, then, only, Brighid, the Solar Diety herself, or her successor could burn the dragons. Some, who belonged to the Solar Realm, and had been bestowed with some powers, partially from Brighid, might also succeed in burning a dragon. However, that, would deplete them, of a large amount of energy reservoir. It was clear that, if her clan or someone with her orders, decided to use this power, then, forget about humans, all beings would be wiped out.

The dragons were very strong, but, even we, gave our respects to Solar Deity Brighid. The dragon could gain more powers only, if she blessed them. On the other hand if angered, she could destroy a dragon such that it, would become a live corpse. The dragon would never be able to breathe fire again. All magical beings knew that, if a dragon's fire died, the said dragon was worse than the most ordinary mortal. This dragon would become a slave, and would be at the master's mercy all the time. At the same time, werewolves, vampires and even those who practiced  extreme forms of witchcraft were not an exception. 

Brighid, though mysterious, was the untouchable. One false step was enough to make her angry.

"Don't ever cross your limits. I can destroy your clans and rebuild this planet any time."

Brighid had once imprisoned all supernatural beings. I was not born then. My parents and all those who had witnessed her fury had narrated the incident to us. In short she was not someone to be trifled with. She was the most powerful, and while, we needed to drink elixirs to live; her elixir was stored within her.  The extent of her powers was wide and unknown to all. Every existence dwarfed in her presence. So, when I received the news that my uncle had been burnt, I was naturally surprised. Had he managed to provoke Brighid? If yes, then the entire Dragon Realm might be on the verge of facing crisis. I really hoped that my uncle's follies would not cause trouble for our Dragon Realm.

"Ri, leave me alone. I need some time to think about this matter."

Ri left and I cast a spell on the door to avoid being disturbed again. After that, I sat in a lotus position. As I closed my eyes, my bodylifted and the contact with the ground was broken.

"Asminksham vartamane," my chant ended and my hand made the perfect pattern in the air.

 I was calling my mentor His Holiness. This was a private method through which I could contact him.

"Aagat."

When I heard the familiar deep voice I was relieved. I bowed my head to greet my mentor and he blessed me.

"What was so urgent that, you had to call me Vern?"

"My half uncle has been burnt."

"I know."

"You do."

"Yes."

"Then..."

"Everything may not be revealed, Vern. Time decides whether, or not the seeker deserves to be informed."

"I am concerned about our realm's well being, His Holiness."

"Brighid, did attack, but stopped short of destroying the entire realm, for now."

"For now..... Do you mean that there is a possibility in the future?"

"Let the future rest where it is. It has never been advisable to know about the future in advance."

"His Holiness I..."

"Anything else………"

“My dragon awakened. And, I made the first contact with my mate."

When His Holiness remained quiet, I continued.

"I am worried. If she is an ordinary human then..."

"She is much more than an ordinary human, Vern. An ordinary human mate would be unable to awaken your dragon.”

“I am unable to see her. It simply means that, she is very powerful."

I stopped so that His Holiness would speak. All he said was, "she might have something to do with Brighid. "

With that, His Holiness vanished. Brighid... I wondered what the future had in store. And, now that, my mate was, somehow linked with the Solar Deity, I was slightly worried. I feared that Brighid might be an obstacle to our relationship.
