Aspen POV Not until they had finally left did I finally heaved a huge sign of relief. 'Finally the cruel mother and daughter duo had left my neck!" I heaved a sigh of relief whilst I began cleaning. I began to re arrange her beddings and dusting the shelves. By the time I was mopping the floor, I was already tired so I decided to dump myself on a nearby chair with a few materials on her table. I couldn't help but notice a fancy envelope and I was tempted to reach for it but refrained from doing so. "It's none of your business Aspen! Touching it will only bring you more trouble from those mischievous wolves!" I concluded in my mind. The next second I immediately gathered my cleaning materials and resumed to work and at the same time humming to a song all in hopes of forgetting that envelope. The next second I found myself gazing at the table and my mind tempting me to do it even though it was aware of it's severe consequences! "f**k it! f**k everyone!" I cursed in my mind whilst walking towards the desk determinedly. I opened the envelope and my eyes bulged out as I read the contents. It was the infamous Iridescent Wolfe Ball being hosted in the castle by the Alpha king. According to rumors, he's been mate less for ages and he's also known for his ruthlessness. The Iridescent Wolfe Ball occurs annually with a few number of ladies chosen by the alpha king himself. As expected, there is a very high competition between the choosen ones and there are also many adversities. Not even a year goes by without a lady loosing her life along the line. Yet he hasn't find his fated mate or worse a choosen mate. "What a grumpy alpha king,' I rolled my eyes internally as I continued to fiddle with the envelope. 'Apparently that's why the moon goddess didn't gift him a mate!" I thought in my mind. Inside the envelope was several application forms and I found some half filled forms by Layla herself. "Poor Blake!" I scoffed in my mind. "He deserved that for being such a scum bag. "He deserves worse!" My subconscious said to me and I couldn't agree less. I was about to place back the envelope exactly as I met it when my eyes lit as a bright thought crossed my head. This could be it! This could be my lottery ticket to freedom. What if I apply for the ball and get choosen! Then I will be able to escape this hellhole and also conveniently plot my escape there. I mean I am just of those many girls and a nobody! No one will even notice that I will be missing over there. At least, one can dream... isn't it. Without any second thought, I stole one of Layla's many application forms which I know she wouldn't even notice and his it very carefully inside my dress. I wouldn't want to get caught with the form else I would rot in the dungeons. "Goodness gracious Aspen, you could have spent all day in the beta's room!" She glared at me and I bit my lower lip thinking of an excuse. "Actually Beta Layla was having a serious conversation with her mom upon my arrival, I didn't want to interfere," I said with a straight face. It wasn't a complete lie though, they were having a conversation before I came but that wasn't exactly what made me late. "Whatever now get your ass here and go get me groceries," she ordered and my heart was racing with profound happiness. Now I would get the opportunity to fill out the form outside and submit it. It felt like the moon goddess was by my side. **** The first thing I did the moment I stepped outside was to branch the packs library. I met with Mrs Granger who immediately welcomed me with a smile. "Hello Mrs Granger," I hollered at her and she peeked at me with that round glasses of hers. Of course I was a frequent visitor to the library and she recognizes me. "How many I help you today? But I don't think I can't because we haven't gotten any new collections this week!" She babbled and I smiled. She knew too well that I had read almost all the books in the history section if the library and this was her way of sending me back. "Actually I don't need any of that, I need your help with something different instead," I c****d an eyebrow hoping that she is curious to hear my next few words. "Spill it out," she said petting a black fur which of course is her cat whom she calls Mr Fletcher and I find it absolutely weird. I inched closer to her and bought out the form. "I happen to get the application form of The Iridescent Wolfe Ball and I will like to apply and fill the form right here right now, will you perhaps be very kind to help me with the submission?" I asked with a curious brow. "You? Are you seriously kidding right now because I'm about to die of laughter! You better stop dreaming young lady and be on your way!" She dismissed me before going back to dusting her books. "Hold on Mrs Granger, I am totally serious about this and you have to help me!" "Since you insist, I'll help you with that...only if you pay first!" She gestured with her fingers and I grimaced before tossing her a few coins. It was a great part of my life savings and her face morphed into a wide smile. She handed me a pen which I gladly accepted and started filling the form. How long have you been dreaming of attending the Iridescent Wolfe Ball?" It stated and I rolled my eyes. I had never once dreamt of attending the ball not to talk of meeting the grumpy alpha king. "Just today," I jotted down plainly and moved onto the next question. "What are your expectations from the castle and the alpha king?" It asked and honestly I am starting to get annoyed at the pointless questions. Nothing, absolutely nothing! I emphasized and planned to move on to the next question but paused at that second. What if I was deprived of food and water? Will I be able to survive. "As long as there is food and accomodations and of course I do nothing all day long!" I enunciated each word. "Do you know how risky and fierce the competition is here in the castle. There are numerous ladies competing for this post?" I glared at the paper and at this point the urge to urge to meet the person who set the questionnaire was very strong. I felt like hitting him with a bat at this moment. "Of course I am well aware but that is the least of my worries. I have no desire for competing with them. That makes me on the safer side." I responded fiddling with my pen. Suddenly it dawned on me that I had answered every question bluntly and casually. "Let's not get your hopes high this time, you are definitely not going to win!" My sub conscious whispered. "We will send a letter once you have been choosen by the alpha king!" It states at the end. "Here!" I resisted the urge to scowl at her at the moment. "So much for just delivering my letter!" "It was nice doing business with you Aspen," she flashed me a toothy smile. "My pleasure," I responded even though I was literally weeping inside. A great deal of my escape money had been spent on the goddamn ball!
