Karla Frigg, a twenty-nine-year-old member of the Survey Team A burst into the team office with a wide glee and a large bouquet in her arms, her eyes rested Kaya who had her desk right at the end of the office, she was struggling with the paper work in front of her and paid no attention to the lady that had just waltzed in.
The office was a bit empty now as most of the members had been assigned to various sites.
Karla took long strides over to Kaya’s desk, dropping the bouquet on it. Kaya slowly lifted her head noting Karla’s presence.
“So! When were you going to tell?”
“Tell you what?” Kaya asked pushing the bouquet aside so she could focus on her work.
“Really?” Karla tilted her head displeased by her reaction. “Everyone is talking about it you know” that statement had caught her attention and she had her head back up curious to know what Karla was going on about.
“Some people said they saw a young man kneeling by you at the parking lot yesterday, they said you’d gotten into his car after work” Kaya was red now, she quickly took her head back down.
“God, this is embarrassing” she muttered. “It’s not what you think”
“Really, cause a bouquet just got delivered to the receptionist desk and it addressed to you” Kaya shot her eyes to the bouquet, grabbing it from the desk she pulled out the card that had her name on it. “Damn it Ryan, what are you playing?” she muttered as she read the card –
** await your positive reply – love Ryan **
“So his name is Ryan” Kayla had her hands propped up on the table, cupping her oval shaped face in her palms, she stared in delight at the lady in front of her.
“Look he’s just an ex that thinks he can come back anytime he pleases” she furrowed her brow as she stared at the bouquet, what was she to do about all this? She had told him yesterday that she needed time, she didn’t want her emotions to get the best of her and make her say something she probably didn’t want.
“An ex huh? Why did you break?” Kayla pulled back curious
“it’s a long story” Kaya frowned not wanting to get into any details.
“Fine I’ll leave you be then, I need to join Isaac and the others on site, just thought I’d drop the flower off first” she sighed moving over to her desk to grab her purse. “Site work is stressful; I need a break” she muttered as she made her way out of the office. Kaya watched her silently before pulling out her phone and a card from her side drawer. She slowly inputted the number on the card into her phone and dialed it.
The person on the other end picked up after the second ring.
“Ryan, it’s me”
“You finally decided to give me a call.” He grinned happily “do you have an answer for me now?”
“I got your flowers” she spoke cutting him off, there was a brief pause at the other end of the line.
“You didn’t like them” he asked sounding a bit low.
“This is my work place Ryan; you shouldn’t send such things here” she noted and he sighed, she could hear his steady breathing over the phone.
“You wouldn’t give me your address so I didn’t know how to get them to you, would you prefer that I gave you in person?”
“Please don’t do it again” she said hanging up. Her heart was pounding so hard, she felt so out of breath. Why did she feel this way while talking to him? She thought staring at the phone she had placed on the desk.
A knock came to the office door startling her and she quickly tossed the bouquet under her desk. “Come in” her voice croaked
A young lady walked into the office, she seemed a bit timid as she walked in.
“Oh Hope, you are back” she smiled warmly as the girl approached her desk. Hope was a newbie that had been assigned to her team, she was around the same age Kaya was when she started working at the company. She had only been working here for a month and was already proving her worth.
Kaya had sent a list of items to the account department so they could prepare a budget for Taylor’s project. Honestly she was surprised they had gotten back to her already.
“The account department has created a budget for miss Reeds project” she handed some documents to Kaya who slowly went through them. “They want you to go through it in case they missed any item before handing it over to the director for approval”
“Right I’ll get to that” Kaya scanned through the papers.
“Also, the interior design team are at the hotel for the finishing, you are supposed to be there by 12” Hope noted.
Kaya glanced over at the clock, it was already 11:50
“Oh my God!” she exclaimed pushing up to her feet, she had lost track of time while addressing the papers on her desk. “Thank you so much Hope” she grabbed her bag and coat from over her chair and hurried towards the door.
“You phone” Hope called and she quickly rushed back to get it.
“Thank you” she waved causing Hope to chuckle.
Rachel watched from afar waiting for Kaya to be out of sight before making her way into the office.
“Hope right?” she called and the girl turned.
“Yes” she bowed respectfully.
“Oh no need for that, I actually wanted a file holder. We are out of it at my office and I am too lazy to go to store” she laughed weakly. “I hope it’s not a problem”
“Not at all. I get what you mean, going to the store can be such a hassle” Hope smiled moving over to shelve that stood at the other end of the office to get the file holder.
Rachel watched her before quickly making her way to Kaya’s desk, her eyes resting on the budget papers.
