Mikael sat in his swivel chair staring at the files before him but his thoughts were far from him, Kaya’s face appearing in his mind. She was crying but why? Had he pulled her too hard? He thought to himself.
Deep in thoughts, he didn’t notice the office door swing open. Absently flipping the pages of the file, he pondered on the teary image he had seen. Do I need to apologize?
The slender palm making a painfully loud contact with his desk jolted his consciousness and his eyes rested on the stern look on his mother’s face.
“Mother?!” he pushed off his seat, eyes wide as he wondered when she had stepped.
“You really didn’t come in?” she observed her son, he’d been acting strange lately and always looked lost in thoughts. He was hiding something, she couldn’t push off that bug and so she had decided to take care of it.
“I am sorry mother, I was too caught up in work” she furrowed her brow, he always looked away when he was uncomfortable or lying. Although she didn’t need to see such habit to know that he was lying, she clearly knew he wasn’t uncomfortable right now and he damn well wasn’t working.
“You should pay more attentions to your surroundings” she played along taking off the sun glasses, she had on leaving Mikael to wonder why she was here for a brief second before she continued.
“I got you a personal assistant, he’ll also be playing the role of your secretary”
“Secretary?” Mikael grimaced finally getting a full picture of the young man that stood by her, he had thought that it was Jeremy. The man was dressed in a black suit, his hair was dyed navy blue and had been neatly styled. He had a single piercing on his right ear and a charming look on his face. His brown eyes resting on Mikael.
“Good day sir, I’m Liam White” the man replied giving a respectful bow. Mika’s eyes moved between his mother and the man that had showed up in his office totally confused.
“But mother, I have been doing quite well without a secretary”
“I know; I just couldn’t stop thinking about it – A secretary would help you cover your schedules more appropriately. And then…” she took her eyes to the door. “For your safety, we can’t have people waltzing into your office as they like. Just look at it, you didn’t even notice me come in. it’s really dangerous besides Liam is one of my best men you should be grateful that I am handing him over to you”
Mikael knew quiet well what his mother had off her sleeves, it was the reason it didn’t want a secretary in the first place, they’d just act as spies for his mother like the last one. Thankfully Corrine had fired her herself when she tried to get closer to her son.
“Mother…”
“I don’t remember asking for your opinion. Liam is starting today; I have already informed him of what he needs to do – keep him up to date with your schedule. Jeremy is already preparing his station in front of your office, you two should get along” with that she turned to take her leave.
Mikael stared speechless as the door came closed behind her, how long was she going to do this? How much of all this could he really take?
“I look forward to working with you?” Liam took another bow pulling Mikael attention back to him.
“I am well aware that you are a spy, so you can drop the act” he noted falling back to his chair.
“I am indeed a spy for your mother” Liam replied calmly as he watched Mikael who had on a shocked expression. Normally they’d act oblivious but this one had just admitted to it.
“You won’t deny it?”
“You clearly know the type of woman your mother is; it would be foolish to deny it. However, I act as secretary is – your privacy should be my upmost priority. Your mother doesn’t really need to know what you don’t want her too” he smirked
Mikael stared at the man that stood in front him confused on his intentions.
“Rest assured your mother wants me to have your best interest in heart and that is exactly what I plan to do”
“Are you being for real. Do you think I’ll buy that?” Mikael scoffed, was this a trick or what? “I have nothing to hide anyway so you can do as you please”
“If you say so – I’ll be making a daily report to your mother about your day. So please feel free to tell me what you’d need me to omit”
“Right out your email, I’ll send you my schedule for the month later” Mikael sighed.
“I already sent you a text before coming” Liam replied with a smile. “I’ll take my leave now” he took a bow before turning to leave.
Mikael leaned into his chair, he couldn’t this from his mother anymore. She was constantly trying to interfere in his life, it made him like he wasn’t even living at all. Liam on the other hand seemed like a rather strange character and he had no idea if he could trust him.
…
“What?” Michael sprung to his feet, eyes wide at his assistant who stood in front of him. “I was wondering why she was so curious about Kaya the other day” he balled his fist feeling very furious. “How could she?”
“Sir, it seems Kaya keeps having her way with client. It’s almost like we don’t exist anymore, we have to do something about it” his assistant noted... Rachel was a twenty-five-year-old that started working at the construction company the same time Kaya did however she seemed to be stagnant compared to Kaya who had become a team leader. It annoyed her just thinking of it. she believed she was just as hardworking as Kaya and deserved to be a team leader as well. She stared at the man in front her, she had placed enough spite in him and planned to use him to bring her down. She just needed a plan.
“I will definitely think of something” Michael muttered.
