CHAPTER 6 - CAN YOU BE ANY OBVIOUS?

1059 Words
“I was thinking you planned on running away since you weren’t picking your calls” Corrine sat with her legs crossed on a sofa, her hair had been packed up and she had on a pair of glasses. Her assistant stood by her, a tab in his hand, showing her a new business proposal they had received. “Sorry mother, I was busy with work” Mikael replied stepping out of the corridor and into the living room. Two maid had walked up to him immediately, taking his coat and bag from him. “Oh really?” she took her eyes to him, dismissing her assistant. “I really do not have time for you right now – go freshen up. Dinner will be ready shortly” she noted pulling to her feet and heading towards the kitchen. Even with so many maids, Corrine preferred to cook her meals herself. Mikael watched his mother before proceeding upstairs to his room. He hated the fact that he was back here, this place only brought back bad memories and it felt really suffocating. Pushing open his room door, he loosed his tie and took out the first three buttons before collapsing to the bed. Most times he couldn’t even tell what he was thinking, it always felt like he didn’t have a mind of his own. From a very young age he had his life defined for him and was forced to walk in that path, unable to make any decision for himself. It had affected him so badly and was one of the major reason he couldn’t accept Anna. Anna was his mother’s decision and not his, so he naturally wanted to go against it. He couldn’t love her, it was his inner consciousness trying to fight his mother’s will and in a way he was transferring his anger to her. “…It feels like you hate me…” her words replayed in his head. In a way she wasn’t wrong. He sighed placing his arm over his eyes. She did nothing wrong but he just couldn’t accept her. Kaya’s image flashed through his mind and for a moment his thoughts lingered on her. “She’s really pretty” Taylor’s voice resurfaced in his mind and he furrowed his brow sitting upright. “What is wrong with me?” he spoke out loud. “I could ask the same question” his eyes moved to his mother who stood by the door. “I told you to freshen up, go wash your face and hands – dinner is ready” she watched him rise from the bed and head into the bathroom before turning to take her leave. Moving down the hall, she stopped by her assistant who was waiting for her. “Jeremy” she called as she approached him. “Have someone keep an eye on Mikael, he…” she paused looking back towards his bedroom. ‘What could possibly be on his mind?’ she thought to herself. … Kaya had finished reviewing the papers that Taylor handed to her, she made some adjustment to the plans and planned to give a call over to her office to set another meeting. She was walking out of the printing room when her eyes rested on Mikael. The sight had given her an instant panic, without thinking she rushed back into the room trying to catch her breath. Turning around her eyes rested on a familiar hazel eyed male. Caught completely off guard, she lost her balance falling backward. The strong arm around her waist prevented her from meeting the ground. Their faces were only inches apart right now, his eyes watching her with no particular emotions in them. Wriggling out of his grip, she moved some paces away from him. He watched her carefully, placing his hands into his pocket. “Can you be any obvious?” She shot her eyes to him confused. “You are the one that said we should pretend like nothing happened but you don’t seem to be good at it” he bent over to pick up the papers littered on the floor and handed it over to her. “Should there be any reason to avoid me if we’ve never met?” he asked, his eyes focused on her. Yes, she had said so but it wasn’t as easy as she thought. It was her first time after all. “I’d like it if you act naturally around me” he noted ‘Says the man that almost ate me up with his eyes’ she thought with a frown, taking her head up slowly to view him. She wondered how he could act so naturally around her, obviously she wasn’t his first, he had probably had countless of women on his bed. The thought irritated her and tears stung her eyes. “I am sorry sir, I got a little flustered… it’s not like I have men flooding my bed all the time” she blurted and his eyes widened. ‘What was she implying’ “I’ll try to act properly next time” she gave a bow about to leave when he pulled her back. “What?” she glared, she couldn’t understand why his actions right now offended her so much. The way he acted… it was what she wanted but how could he treat her first time as nothing. Mikael noticed the tears that gathered in her eyes as she stared at him, he could see the hint of disgust in her expression. Taking his eyes away, he pointed over to a piece of paper that laid on the ground. “You forgot that” he noted watching her move over to where the paper lied before leaving the room. Kaya heard the door come close behind her and turned to find him gone. The tears flowed down freely now as she remained in a squat. ‘Why do I feel this way?’ she clenched her chest, sobbing silently. What did she really expect from him? He was doing as she had said yet she felt annoyed and disgusted by it. She wished that night had never happened but it was too late to be making wishes now. Pulling up to her feet, she wiped the tears from her face and made her way out of the room.
