“Shhh!” he placed his finger against her lips. “No need to apologize, I appreciate it” he traced her lips with his finger and she quickly drew away standing up to her feet but was drawn back almost immediately.
“Don’t go” he said in low tone as he approached
“Sir, sir… what are you…” her words were cut short as his lips crashed into hers.
“Goodness” Kaya jerked up alerting those around her.
“Ma’am? Are you okay?” a lady asked, she had zoned out during a briefing
What the hell was she thinking? “Umm, I am not feeling too well, you all compile everything and submit it on my desk” she said standing to her feet and heading out of the meeting room, she couldn’t get the thought out of her head no matter how hard she tried – the memories of the night before plagued her mind.
Her eyes immediately landed on Mikael who was stepping out of the elevator – he didn’t look sad today but he was definitely pissed. She bowed her head as her eyes came in contact with him. She had expected him to walk pass but he stopped a few inches away from her and that got her heart racing.
“You the one in charge of the survey of the hotel?” he asked
“Yes sir” she replied slowly lifting her head but unable to maintain eye contact. Mikael on the other hand had his eyes fixed on Kaya, he acted completely normal. Like nothing had happened between them last night.
“I need a full report by tomorrow morning” he added and she nodded stiffly.
“Yes sir” she said and watched him walk off.
Yes, she had said that they should forget what happen last night but how could he be so normal about it. Damn him… she frowned.
…
Mrs. Corrine McCain might have been in her mid-fifties but her beauty was still as radiant as it was when she was in her twenties, it caused men to curse the fact that she had refused to remarry. She had a heart shaped face with a perfect jawline, her long lashes flaunting over her hazel eyes above her well-structured nose and full lips. She was cladded in a black off shoulder gown with a silver necklace around her neck and matching bracelets.
Her beautiful black hair that stopped at her shoulder had been curled neatly, her purse in hand, she occasionally stared at the time on her watch as she stood by the front door of her son’s mansion, her face stern as anger boiled in her.
She flashed her eyes over to car that pulled up at the mansion, her eyes watching as the front door came open and a young man stepped out.
“Mother” Mikael heart was racing as he rushed over to woman he feared.
“You changed your password without informing me” her voice sounded sweet but carried so much authority in it, her eyes watching him like a hawk – marking every small movement he made.
“Forgive me mother, I should have informed you – let me show you in” he headed up the flight of stairs and she said nothing as she watched him swipe his card against the door inviting her in.
“And the attendants?” she asked taking majestic strides into the house.
“They come twice a week”
Corrine chuckled lightly as she made her way into living room, he wanted to live the way he pleased that’s why he was taking all this steps and she knew that. He wanted privacy so he had changed his password, wanted to escape her watchful eyes so he got rid of the attendants.
“Do you want anything?” Mikael asked and his mother threw her hand dismissively.
“Who do you think I am?” she asked staring grimly at him “I am not a fool Mikael” she frowned and he lowered his head.
“Mikael” she called as she sat on the leather couch by her and crossed her leg. “Did I give you too much freedom?”
Slowly lifting his head, he looked to his mother wondering what had brought her here. Anna? Didn’t look like it. What else?
“Where were you last night”
A sudden unease overtook him, settling in his guts. Staring at his mother he swallowed hard. If she knew something, lying to her would be catastrophic but if she didn’t…
Corrine placed her slender fingers into her purse, and slowly pulled them out again, she displayed three pictures on the center table. Mikael’s eyes fell to them and his heart sank.
She knew.
“I was worried when I was informed that you hadn’t returned home, so I had someone search for you. And what did I get?” the pitch of her voice rose and she sprang up from her seat. “You couldn’t even find a secluded place” she scoffed staring at him in disgust. “Is that how I trained you? What? You couldn’t control yourself? Imagine what would have happened to the company’s image if this got out – what would become of your father’s legacy” she yelled. Grabbing the pictures from the table she shoved it in his face. “You want to taint all I have struggled to maintain?”
“I am so-” a slap stopped his words at his mouth, the sting causing him to have a clearer picture of what had just happened.
“I told you before, I never want to hear those words. Don’t put me in a position to ever hear them again” squeezing the pictures in her hands she tossed them into the fire place.
“And the girl?”
“She knows it was an accident, she wants us to act like it never happened” he replied unable to stare at into his mother’s eyes.
“At least she’s smart” she sighed although she wasn’t too comfortable with them working together. “As for Anna you will apologize to her over a dinner date”
Mikael balled his fist and he scrunched his face but didn’t air his objections.
“Mikael” she moved closer to him lifting his head to her view. “You worry me a lot and it’s not fair on me, I struggled so hard to keep this company in place for your father and for you. At least grant me some peace of mind”
“I’m…” Mikael swallowed at his words “I will” he replied
“Good” she let go his face taking a quick look around the house. “You’ll be moving back with me, you are yet to grow and as such I can’t allow you leave alone. We don’t want another mistake. Plus, your father’s remembrance is coming up… you’ll help with the preparation.” with that she took her leave.
Mikael watched quietly as the door came shut behind his mother, tightening his already balled fist he stared grimly at the door. He could never go against her.
