Betrayal and girlfriend

1115 Words
It wasn't until I saw Shirley stumbling out of his room the next morning that I suspected something else happened. It had been confirmed when after that night, I noticed that their relationship had changed. The easy friendship between them was gone, replaced with some kind of strange awkward tension. Shirley had cheated on Fede by sleeping with my brother. I didn't realize until much later that it was exactly like the plan I had drunkenly devised with Lucas . If Shirley cheated on Fede, she couldn't be so hypocritical about him cheating on me. Of course, I hadn't planned on the person she cheated with being Abel. As far as I knew, they didn't blame me or Lucas . Not that they really could have. I wasn't even sure I could say Lucas was the cause. You could set people up, but you couldn't make them sleep together. When I confronted Lucas about it later, he had said, "I gave him the idea, but it probably crossed his mind before that." I couldn't deny that I wouldn't have been surprised if Abel admitted to having a crush on Shirley . She and Fede had only started dating recently. Them sleeping together was more their fault than ours, even if we had influenced it a little bit. But there was also something else I couldn't deny- In the time I had dated Lucas , it didn't take me long to notice that no matter what it was, things often had a way of happening exactly how he wanted them. A shrill ringtone pierced through the awkward silence as we packed up, making me jump. Christian rummaged around for his phone, dumping some stuff on the ground and effectively reversing the last ten minutes of cleaning up we had done. When he found it, he stared at the screen for a moment, before dropping his phone back on the bed without answering. Thirty seconds after it stopped ringing, it started again. Again, he didn't answer. Which caused the person to call again. Or, at least, I assumed it was the same person calling over and over. Whoever they were, they must've really wanted to talk to Christian . It happened again for the fourth time, making me glance at Christian , raising an eyebrow to silently ask why he didn't pick up or turn his phone on silent. His glare made me quickly advert my eyes. While it was annoying, I couldn't be hypocritical and hate the caller, since I had done the same thing to Lucas before. Oh s**t. What if it was Christian's girlfriend? What if he had a girlfriend, and- Fuck. The last thing I wanted to be was the other woman in Jacen Winston's relationship. By the fifth call, Christian snapped. He snatched up his phone and slid his finger across the screen, answering with, "What the f**k do you want, Ash?" Okay, so not a girlfriend? I mean, Christian wouldn't talk to his girlfriend like that, right? Then again, this is Christian Harvey so who the f**k knows. He was silent for a moment, then said, "Because I don't want to see you." Ex-girlfriend, maybe? He had called the person Ash, which could be a nickname for a guy or a girl. Hell, it could even be an ex-boyfriend, with how much I knew about Christian . I mean, we slept together, but- Whatever Gig, it was one time, not going to happen again, and it doesn't matter anyway. "I'm leaving today," Christian snapped into the phone. He paused. "Then tell me now." Whatever the other person said seemed to anger him. "Tell Ares to tell me then." "That worked well last time," he replied after a short pause in a tone so biting and sarcastic it almost made me shiver. "Has he forgiven you yet?" Another pause. "Don't try that reverse psychology bullshit on me." "Just tell me now!" I jumped as Christian suddenly raised his voice and turned so I could see him from the corner of my eye. There was a long pause then, but it didn't appear as though whoever was on the other end was yelling at him since Christian didn't flinch. "Fine," he snapped. "Coffee shop on the corner of Broadway and 120th street in ten minutes." He hung up and for a couple seconds I was almost certain he would throw his phone across the room or crush it in his hand. He didn't though, seeming to get a grip on himself. "Do you want to go to Cornell?" It took me a moment to realize Christian was talking to me. I blinked. "What?" "Do. You. Want. To. Go. To. Cornell?" he repeated slowly like he was talking to a two year old. I hesitated for a moment. Did I want to see Christian ? The last I had heard from him was when he sent a letter telling us he had decided to go to Cornell and asking for his stuff to be shipped to his dorm there instead of Berkeley. "Did you pick it?" Christian pressed. "I know I did, but do you care if we go?" What was I supposed to say to that? I had no idea if 'I' had chosen it since Mom and Dad had submitted my application for me. And that wasn't exactly something I wanted to admit to him. Making a quick decision, I said, "No, it's fine. I don't care." "I have to meet up with a couple of friends." "It didn't sound very friendly to me," I remarked. He turned to stare at me. "We're in a RV," I said, raising my hands defensively. "You didn't seriously think I wouldn't overhear right?" He continued staring at me, long enough that I got uncomfortable enough to look away. "What?" I asked, forcing myself to glance back at him. He raised an eyebrow. "Who do you want a background check on now?" I bit back a gasp. "You dick." "You're going to have to think of better insults if you really want them to hurt," he said with a shrug Then, with a sweep of his arm, he sent everything on his bed to the ground and pulled it back into its upright position. "We're going," he ordered, not bothering to ask if I was done packing, or so much as to even wait for my response, before climbing into the driver's seat. I eyed all of his stuff on the RV floor. "I hope something breaks," I muttered as I followed him to sit up front. Unfortunately, he heard me and gave me a cynical smile. "I'll just replace it if something does." Rich bastard.
