I gave her a sharp look -it wasn't Lucas fault he didn't know about what was going on with Fede and anyone in his position would've asked that question- but I wasn't sure she saw me.
Lucas took it in stride though. "What's wrong?"
"I'm pretty sure my boyfriend's cheating on me. Wanna f**k off now?"
Ugh, why did Shirley hate Lucas so much?
"Akman's golden boy cheating?" he asked dubiously.
I was definitely on Shirley's side, but even I could admit that it was kind of hard to believe.
Fede La Dez was the definition of a golden boy. Starting quarterback on the football team since his sophomore year, full scholarship to Stanford for his academics and he even volunteered at the animal shelter in his free time. Oh, and he was my parent's idea of a perfect boyfriend.
They knew him well since he was Abel's best friend and he set an annoyingly high standard for what they wanted my boyfriend to be like.
Surprisingly, Lucas didn't ask for details. Instead, he said, "You should get him back."
Shirley glanced at him. "Is that what you would want? If you cheated on Gigi, would you want her to go f**k some other guy to get back at you?"
"Shirley -" I started, but the sound of Lucas chuckle made me stop.
"I wouldn't be dumb enough to cheat on her," he said.
"You mean cheat and get caught?" she bit out.
"Shirley !" I exclaimed. I was starting to feel a lot less sorry for her now. Yeah, I knew she had a reason for being like this, but it didn't automatically give her a free b***h card.
She ignored me. "What if you did get caught and Georgia was where I was. You'd want her to get revenge?"
"If Gigi was in your situation," Lucas said. "I wouldn't be the idiotic boyfriend. I'd be the lucky guy she chose to use."
Shirley didn't reply, causing him to look at me questioningly. I shrugged. I had no idea what the hell was going through her mind at this point.
"Well," he cleared his throat. "I know where I'm not wanted, so I'll go get some drinks." I opened my mouth to protest, but he shook his head and slipped out of the room.
"What do I do?" Shirley asked before I could go on a tangent about how rude she had been to Lucas
I sighed. "Do you want to get him back like Lucas suggested?"
"Who could I possibly do it with?"
Ugh, this is way too much for me to deal with after more than two drinks. "I don't know anyone you think is hot?"
"They'd all tell," she moaned, throwing herself back down on the bed in the room. "It'd get around to him."
"Isn't that what you want? That's the whole point of getting revenge," I pointed out.
"But I don't want to ruin everything. I want to feel like I got back at him, but I don't want to ruin it all. How messed up is that?"
"Do you want to key his car? s***h his tires?" I suggested.
"I'm not having a property damage, or vandalism charge on my university application, Gigi ."
"What are you gonna do then?"
She grabbed and pulled it over her head, burying her face in it. "Wait for it all to blow over. I don't know."
I wasn't sure what to say to that. I didn't want her to just sit back and let him walk all over her like this -that wasn't Shirley - but I wasn't sure if I could convince her to get back at him. Lucas calling my name from outside the room saved me from answering.
He held two solo cups of something clear and strong -vodka, by the smell of it- in his hands.
"Don't let him in," Shirley called, her words muffled a little by the pillow.
"I'll be down soon?" I offered to Lucas, taking the cups from him.
He laughed. "It's okay. Let me know if you want me to give you two a ride home."
"You're the best." He probably hadn't been expecting to be bringing drinks up to a crying girl who had insulted him several times in a row when he had decided to come to this party. I gave him a quick kiss on the lips before shutting the door and turning back to Shirley.
"I have vodka," I told her.
She sat up and grabbed one of the cups from my hand, then drained it in one go. Okay okay, slow down champ! What was wrong could never be this deep or serious. I meant it in all seriousness though, we were just in high school. We still had a long way ahead.
"I needed that," she said defensively when she saw me staring at her. The cups hadn't been full, but there had definitely been more than two shots of hard alcohol in there. I really hope my best friend was not going to turn i
"Do you want to go home?" I asked. "Lucas said he could drive us."
She shook her head. "I just kind of... Want to be alone. I'll come down in a little bit."
I gave her a dubious look. "Are you sure?"
"I'll be fine. If you want to help though, I wouldn't mind another cup," she said, nodding to my untouched drink.
"Don't overdo it," I warned her, but handed over the cup anyway.
"I've drank more before. I'll be fine," she repeated. "Go have fun. I'll be down soon."
I left her alone in the room, but I had only taken a couple steps before I bumped into my brother.
like this was what I needed right now!
"Lucas Troop told me Shirley is in there crying her eyes out," Abel said.
"She's not crying anymore," I paused. "She said she wants to be alone."
Abel, of course, completely ignored my latter words, and slipped around me, pushing the door open.
"Okay, nice to talking to you too," I muttered when he slammed it shut behind him.
I didn't see either of them again for the rest of the night. I had figured that Abel had brought her home or something.
