Tyson POV
"Mine!" Dax whispered.
Adrenaline flowed through my body and I had to fight Dax who wanted to take over my body.
Everything around us disappeared and all I could feel was her amazing lips on mine. When Valeria kissed me back, Dax yipped and wagged his tail.
“Mate.” He howled.
I didn’t want to stop. Hell, I wanted to take her to my bedroom and kiss every inch of her body.
When she pulled away, I was harshly pulled back to reality, like a bucket of cold water had been splashed in my face.
When Valeria took off, I cursed under my breath.
I scared her.
"She kissed us back." Dax purred. "She’ll come around. She’s just a little overwhelmed."
I prayed that he was right.
"Tyson." Dax sighed. "Why don’t you just tell her about the mate bond?"
"I will tell her when the time is right." I reassured him.
"And when is that?" Dax frowned.
I shrugged.
When Valeria came back into the room a few minutes later, she wouldn’t look at me.
I sat down on the sofa and watched her shifting her weight from one foot to the other.
“I’m sorry if I made you uncomfortable.” I mumbled.
Valeria shook her head.
“It’s fine.” She replied softly.
She still didn’t look at me, so I couldn’t say that I believed her.
"Why is she so closed off?" Dax grumbled. "She feels the pull of the mate bond too, why won’t she act on it?"
"I don’t know." I replied.
I decided to let it go and instead turned on the TV, hoping that it could ease the tension a bit.
The news were playing and I heard Valeria gasp.
Her eyes were on the screen and I turned up the volume.
“Thomas Arcade is denying the accusations against him, saying that he has never had any involvement in human trafficking. His trial is scheduled to June 3rd.”
I looked at Valera and saw her smiling.
“Was that the guy you took down yesterday?” I asked.
She nodded and smiled.
“Congratulations.” I said. “I hope he gets a long prison sentence.”
Valeria smiled and sat down next to me.
“Thank you.” She whispered, still looking at the TV.
“I have something for you.” I said.
Valeria turned her eyes to me.
“You do?” She frowned.
I nodded and got up. I retrieved a rectangular box from a sitting room cabinet and sat down next to her again.
“Open it.” I said and gave it to her.
Valeria lifted the lid and looked inside.
It was a silver dagger, about the length of her forearm. The hilt was carved in beautiful, round curves and the handle was wrapped in navy blue silk strings.
“Thank you.” Valeria mumbled, her frown deepening in confusion. “You shouldn’t have.”
“The dagger is pure silver.” I explained. “Silver is one of the few things that could actually hurt a wolf.”
“So, it’s like kryptonite?” Valeria asked, a smile now replacing the frown on her face.
I chuckled.
“Something like that.” I agreed. “I want you to have it if Amadeus should try to attack.”
“But the installation of the security system will be finished tomorrow.” Valeria protested. “I won’t be your bodyguard after that.”
I cringed at the thought of her leaving me.
“What if I want you to stay?” I asked.
Valeria raised an eyebrow.
“Do you want Mr Sampson to extend my assignment here?”
I took her hand and relished in the sparks tingling in my palm.
“I want to see you again.” I whispered. “But not as a bodyguard. I never want you to risk your life to keep me safe ever again.”
Valeria looked down in her lap.
“What you’re asking for, cannot happen.” She said softly. “I’m sorry, Tyson.”
It felt like she just punched me in the chest and I had to stifle a gasp.
“Why?” I asked, trying to keep my frustration from seeping into my voice.
Valeria shrugged.
“I’m just not girlfriend material.”
I stared at her.
“Just friends then?” I asked.
It wasn’t really what I wanted. But I’d rather be friendzoned than ending up losing her. My hand was still on hers, and I silently prayed that the bond would persuade her to at least let me see her again as a friend.
Valeria nodded and I heaved a sigh of relief.
We spent the rest of the night in comfortable silence, watching movies together.
When Kayden and Garrett walked in, I glanced at the time.
11 PM.
“Maybe we should get some sleep.” Valeria suggested.
I nodded and got up from the sofa while I saw Valeria tuck the knife in her belt.
“Alright.” Kayden sighed. “We’re here to relieve you.”
Valeria smiled.
“Thank you.” She mumbled.
It took everything in me to say goodnight and leave. With Kayden and Garrett there, I didn’t want to try to kiss her again.
Even if I really wanted to.
I spent another night tossing and turning, Dax trying to talk me into going out to see our mate ever so often.
If this is what my nights would be like from now on, I’ll never sleep again.

Valeria POV
I woke in the morning to the sound of the elevator doors.
Raising my head from the sofa, I saw Mr Sampson walking in with Sam and Aidan.
“Aidan?” I asked. “What are you doing here?”
“I met up with Sam on my way to school.” He explained. “I couldn’t miss the chance to see the Maxwell building, so when they asked if I wanted to come along to see you, I couldn’t say no.”
It wasn’t all that surprising. Aidan was technically still an intern at the Tech department since he was considered having a lot of potential to become an asset. Because of that, he had some security clearance that allowed him to join some operations if Mr Sampson deemed it fitting.
I jumped up from the sofa and rushed over to hug him.
“You need to stop working so much.” Aidan pouted. “I barely get to see you.”
Before I could answer, a menacing growl was heard behind me.
I turned around, only to see Tyson pounce on Aidan. They both fell to the floor with Tyson on top.
I saw Tyson raise his arm and claws emerged from his fingers.
Before he was able to strike, I activated my powers and sent him flying toward the wall behind him, leaving him suspended mid-air with his back against the wall.
With my hand still up to keep Tyson in place, I leaned forward and helped Aidan to his feet.
“Are you alright?” I asked.
“Yes.” Aidan said and rubbed the back of his head. “I have no idea what just happened.”
I looked over at Tyson on the wall.
“Me neither.” I whispered.
Tyson was fuming. Every time I touched Aidan, Tyson growled.
“What on earth are you doing?” I asked, bewildered by his sudden outburst of aggression.
“You never said that you had a boyfriend.” He growled.
I frowned and looked at Aidan.
Aidan burst out laughing.
“She’s not my girlfriend.” He giggled.
Tyson frowned at us when I chuckled too.
“Aidan is my brother.” I explained.
A whimper left Tyson’s lips.
“You’re lying.” He whispered. “I would have smelled it on him if he was your brother.”
Aidan and I stopped in our laughing fit.
“He-He’s not my biological brother.” I muttered. “I was adopted by his parents.”
Tyson’s eyes widened.
“I-I didn’t know.” He stammered. “I’m sorry.”
I shook my head in disbelief.
“Why would you do that?” I asked. “So what if I have a boyfriend? Just because we…”
I stopped myself before I could finish that sentence in front of my boss frowning at me.
“...it doesn’t mean that you own me.” I mumbled.
Mr Sampson folded his arms over his chest.
“Care to explain yourself, your majesty?”
Tyson opened his mouth and closed it again.
“I’m sorry, Valeria.” Garrett said and took a step forward.
I didn’t realize that he and Kayden were still here, but they had been watching everything quietly.
“Lycans are not usually this aggressive.” Kayden added with a nervous laughter.
“No.” Mr Sampson agreed. “Lycans are only possessive about their…”
He stopped mid-sentence.
“Wait.”
He narrowed his eyes at Tyson.
“Your Majesty. Is Agent Adams your mate?”
