#musicvibe - Before you go, Lewis Capaldi

Tyson POV
The rest of the night went by without a fuss, but I was still worried about Valeria.
I figured from the things that she had told me that she was fighting demons I knew nothing about. That made things much more complicated.
Maybe I should try to ask Mr Sampson about her. He was her boss and should be able to tell me about her. Mr Sampson had worked closely with the lycan and werewolf community for a long time and he understood how important our mates were to us.
When I walked into the sitting room, I saw that Valeria was still sleeping on the couch. I stopped and watched her, listening to her soft snores and tried to control the yearning I felt in my chest.
"He’s like a love-sick puppy." Kayden snorted through the mindlink.
"Shut up." I growled back before rolling my eyes and going over to the kitchen.
Garrett and Kayden were already sitting at the table eating breakfast. They both looked tired and I felt bad for them.
“Any news on Amadeus?” I asked.
Garrett sighed and shook his head.
“Nothing yet.” He shrugged. “Nothing happened last night either.”
I looked over at Valeria.
“How did she sleep?” I asked.
“She talked in her sleep a few times, but other than that she was calm.” Garrett whispered.
I nodded.
“I’ll go wake her up. You guys should get some sleep.” I sighed.
“Thanks Alpha.” Kayden muttered and they both got up to leave.
I sauntered over to Valeria and crouched down next to her.
Honestly, I was actually looking forward to touching her. I ran my hand through her hair and was just about to whisper her name when a hand tightly gripped my wrist and I looked into her eyes.
I gasped. Her irises that usually were blue glowed white and glared at me intensely.
After a second, Valeria realized that it was me and let go of my hand.
“What are you doing?” She frowned at me.
“I was trying to wake you up.” I replied.
Valeria quickly sat up.
“Sorry.” She muttered.
“Do you want some breakfast?” I asked.
She nodded without looking at me.
I got up and reached out my hand.
“Come on.” I said.
Valeria looked up and smiled as she took my hand.
I led her out into the kitchen and we helped ourselves to the breakfast that Kayden and Garrett had left behind on the counter.
When we were finished eating and I had gotten ready for the meeting with the investor, we took the elevator down a few floors and met with Mr Sampson and a team of technicians working on installing the new security system.
“Report, Agent Adams.” Mr Sampson ordered.
“Everything has been quite uneventful this far, Sir.” Valeria replied.
“You were right, Mr Sampson.” I said. “She is quite remarkable. I felt very safe in her presence.”
“Well, nothing had actually happened, so that’s kinda easy.” Valeria shrugged.
An unreadable expression flashed across Mr Sampson’s face as he looked between Valeria and I. He seemed to be deep in thought for a moment, before he shrugged.
“I’m happy that Agent Adams has been helpful.” He replied.
Since it was about an hour left until the meeting began, I sat down in one of the conference rooms to go over some numbers while Valeria stayed outside with Ms Grayson to help with the installation.
Thanks to my lycan hearing, I could still catch their conversation outside.

Valeria POV
“I think he likes you.” Sam said and nudged me in the shoulder.
“Who?” I asked.
Sam rolled her eyes.
“King Tyson, of course.” She scowled.
I shrugged.
“He’s just being friendly.” I replied.
“Do you want me to change the frequency on the east side of the building?” I tried to change the subject, but in vain.
Sam grabbed my arm and turned me around to face her.
“Don’t change the subject, young lady.” She scolded.
I glared at her.
“It doesn’t matter.” I whispered.
“Why?” Sam asked. “Come on Val. He’s smart, rich, powerful and built like a Greek God.”
“Yes.” I replied. “But it all just reminds me of Myers.”
I shuddered at the thought of him.
Hank Myers.
The man that ordered my kidnapping and the killing of my family. The man that turned me into a genetically engineered freak. The man that hurt me in more ways than I could describe.
Sam’s eyes turned sad and I diverted my gaze from her.
“I’m sorry.” She sighed. “I’m sorry that he still finds ways to ruin your life.”
I frowned at her.
“It’s been ten years, Valeria.” Sam said. “All you do is work, work and work. Sure, you’re really good, but have you ever considered doing something because you want to? How about you do something to make yourself happy, for once?”
“And you think that I could be happy with him?” I asked.
“Well yes.” She replied.
I stared at her.
“What makes you so sure?”
Sam smiled.
“Because he knows what it’s like to be different.” She whispered.
I couldn’t argue with that.
But I was afraid.
I had never given my heart to anyone before and I always told myself that it was fine being alone. I was used to feeling alone. Having powers like mine made it hard for people around me to understand.
The only other eleven people that did, were all dead.
And if I was being honest, I didn’t think I deserved to be happy.
Why should I live a happy life when they are dead?
I pushed my thoughts away and helped Sam with the installment before Tyson came out of a conference room.
“I have a meeting soon.” He mumbled. “We should go.”
In the elevator, I could feel his eyes on me and I tried my best to ignore it.
The meeting went by smoothly, but I could still feel Tyson glance at me from time to time and it started to make me feel a bit uncomfortable.
Throughout the day, I stayed by Tyson’s side. So far, it was quite the easy job. Nothing really happened. That was a good thing, but sitting in an office for four hours watching him work wasn’t all that exciting.
When Tyson told me that he was finished, I almost sighed in relief and got up from my seat.
“Dinner?” He asked.
I nodded.
“Sounds good.” I replied.
We heated some leftovers from the day before and sat down at the table.
I decided to break the silence when I saw Tyson pick at his food.
“Are you alright?”
Tyson looked up at me and gave me a weak smile.
“I’m fine.” He muttered.
I frowned.
“But you don’t have to be.” I said. “There is someone out there who wants you dead. I would be worried if you were actually fine with all that.”
Tyson put down his fork and scratched his head.
“You’re right.” He sighed. “I am afraid. But not of Amadeus. I’m afraid of what would happen to my family if I died. What would happen to my kingdom if I’m not there to protect it.”
I nodded.
“But the thing I’m most afraid of is…” He added.
I raised an eyebrow when he didn’t continue.
“What?” I asked softly.
He looked at me.
“I’m afraid that you’ll get hurt because of me.” He mumbled and looked away.
I frowned.
“Why?” I asked. “You barely know me.”
Tyson chuckled.
“What if I wanted to know you?” He asked.
I looked down.
“I’m sorry.” I mumbled. “But I don’t think that is appropriate right now.”
Tyson took my hand from across the table and I stiffened at the tingles that rushed up my arm.
“Why?” He asked. “Because you are working? Or because I remind you of Myers?”
My heart sank and I stared at him wide-eyed.
“How did you…?” I said, but then I furrowed my eyebrows. “Lycans have enhanced hearing. There is no other way you could have heard me talking to Sam.”
Tyson shrugged.
“Yes, I heard what you talked about.” He admitted. “Is that why you won’t give me a chance?”
I sighed and pinched the bridge of my nose.
“I should go check the perimeter.” I mumbled and got up to leave.
Tyson flew up from his chair and walked over to me.
“I don’t know what happened to you...” He whispered.
I sucked in a breath when I realized how close he was standing. I had to crane my neck to look up at him as he towered over me.
“...but I promise you, Valeria. I will never hurt you.”
I looked up and felt myself being mesmerized by his beautiful green eyes.
Tyson’s hand trailed up my arm and his face came closer to mine.
I could feel his breath brushing over my cheek and my eyes fluttered closed.
His lips touched mine and before I knew it, I parted my lips and invited him to explore my mouth with his tongue.
Tyson’s hand gripped my hair lightly, eliciting a soft moan that escaped my mouth before I could stop it.
I forced myself to break out of the trance and pulled away from him.
My breath caught in my throat when I saw his eyes.
They were so dark that the pupils looked black. I stared at him and took a step back.
“Mine.” He whispered huskily.
“Umm-”
I was stunned. I didn’t know what was happening and I had no idea what to say.
“I-I should go check the perimeter.” I mumbled.
With that, I took off before it all became too much for me to handle.
