CHAPTER 6 – Saving each other Cherry’s POV Ana’s confused face made an alarm blare in my head that something wrong had slipped out of my mouth. What should I say? Think of a lie! “Cherry? Who the hell is that?” she asked, curling her lips into a questioning look. “Uhhh…. I mean what if I changed my name to Cherry instead of Evie?” I replied, hoping she would buy my excuse. “From which world did that idea pop up into your mind, Evie?” Ana shrugged her shoulders and shook her head. “Anyway, forget it, babe. What are your plans for this weekend?” I changed the topic. I knew that if I didn’t and continued talking about it, she might get suspicious. “Weekend, nothing special. Oh, but my mom said that my super-hot cousin Brother is coming to stay at my house.” She started to dance, particularly swaying her waist and grinding her hips. Then, she sexily licked her middle finger. “Ewwww! Please tell me that you don’t have the idea of f**king him in your own home!” I exclaimed, folding my legs underneath me. “Why shouldn’t I, babe?” Her lustful tone indicated that she was indeed planning something. “He’s your cousin's brother, for God’s sake, Ana!” I pointed out. “What’s wrong with having s*x with a cousin's brother? There are many relationships like that. Besides, it’s not just s*x, I am attracted to him.” Ana cupped her cheeks, lost in a love daze. “You mean you love him? Like, you want to marry him and have kids with him?” It was something new to me. In my family, there was no relationship like that. We treated everyone as our siblings. “You know what? Yeah! I mean is that possible, Evie? Can I marry him? Will my parents allow me to do that?” She kneeled in front of the bed and rested both of her arms on the bed. “How should I know that, i***t? But my opinion is don’t hurry to have s*x with him. We don’t know whether he has feelings towards—” “Of course he has feelings for me!” Ana declared before I could end my statement. “How do you know?” I asked. “I can feel it, Evie. He looks at me with a lot of feelings in his eyes. Oh, God! His sexy green eyes! I just want to swim in them. I want to see my figure in his pupils when he is f****g me deep and pumping his seeds into me.” Ana was lost in her own world. This girl had gone so far from her thoughts. I sighed and raised my eyebrows at her. “Wow, slow down, Ana! You are thinking too much. He may be just flirting with you to sleep with you. After using you he may throw you out, girl!” I advised, squeezing her palm. “Hmmm, but I can’t stop myself when I see him. My panties get wet and I want to kiss him deeply while hanging on his neck,” Ana exclaimed, drooling away. “Oh, God! Can we stop this now?” I requested, shaking my head. “Why don’t we go clubbing today?” Her face lighted up with excitement. “Which club?” I asked naively. “What kind of a silly question is that? Don’t you know your own dad’s club? Club Marino?” Ana’s voice was mixed with surprise and annoyance. Cherry, we can’t do this! It’s not easy to act in someone else’s body. I wanted to pull my heart out of Evie and fix it back into my body again. “But Mr. Cl—Sorry, Dad won’t allow me to go. The doctors have strictly ordered me to be on bed rest.” My tongue almost slipped but I quickly corrected myself. “Don’t worry, let the genius handle the matter. I will convince them. You prepare to bang the floor of the club and pick me up at 7.00 p.m.!” she said and ran out of the room at lightning speed. But, how do I know where she lives? I had no clue how I was going to pick her up. I knew, for a fact, that I would soon go crazy if I kept dealing with this Evie’s character. “Are you going to the club, Evie?” I was startled to see Mrs. Clerk’s sudden presence in the room. “Gosh! Mom, you scared me! Yeah, I hope Dad permitted Ana,” I said slowly while opening Evie Clerk’s closet. My eyes went widened with her clothing collection. There were only black and dark blue jackets and pants. Most of them were made out of leather material. I searched the entire wardrobe just to find that the girl had no taste for other types of clothes. She lived like a boy, not a single dress or a skirt could be found in her clothing collection. She had different types of shoes and boots. There were no accessories around except some leather bands to wear on wrists and expensive watches. Great! Now, what should I wear? Usually, I didn’t stick to one particular fashion. In fact, I used to have a variety of clothes. “What are you thinking so much about while looking at your clothes, Evie? You usually pick out an outfit quickly without scanning your closet. But what are you thinking so much about today?” I snapped out of my chain of thoughts at the sound of Mrs. Clerk’s voice. “Um…ummmm nothing, Mom. I just…” I hesitated. “Let me help you.” She approached the closet and started to pick out some pieces of clothing. “Here, take this dark blue leather jacket and this pair of blue jeans. I believe these combat boots will suit your outfit.” She gave me the clothes and closed the closet door. “What did you think about Dad’s proposal, Evie?” Mrs. Clerk sat on the bed and moved a pillow aside. “Of course, I would love to go there. I know that Dad won’t make a decision that would harm me. He has always done what is best for me.” I sat beside her. “Evie, Dad is doing everything he can for your own good. He wants to prepare you to take over his business and sweetheart, this world is full of cruelty. You are going to war, you should have a strong armor to defend yourself, Evie. According to the doctor’s recommendations, you should have a physiotherapy session.” She patted my back and we both exchanged a smile with each other. Her eyes were filled with compassion and love for her daughter. “I know, Mom. I don’t want to hurt Dad’s feelings.” But, in fact, the truth was that I wanted to find my killer and find out why he did it. I clenched the bedsheet in anger until my knuckles turned white. “Before this, you would argue with your dad every other day, even though you know that he is going to win at the end. But you still kept fighting, Evie. After the surgery you are so different, I mean you have changed completely upside-down,” she said with an empathetic tone of voice. “Mom, it’s just that I thought for a while that I lost both of you. I have started to feel the value of our relationship. I realized that it isn’t easy to gain a human life, but I did, so I have to be a good girl!” I explained. Are you being emotional, Cherry? You are talking too much! Stop there, otherwise, you will confuse the situation. I sighed and stood up from the bed, looking at the clothes she picked out for me. “What happened? Don’t you like them? If you want, we can do some online shopping and pick out something different?” Her face lightened up with a bright smile. “I am good with these, Mom. Ana and I are going to Club Marino tonight.” Ana had mentioned the club name to me earlier. “I will send the guards with you. It’s not safe outside for you to roam around without any protection,” Mrs. Clerk suggested, worry lacing her voice. “That’s great. I am not completely strong as well, so I would need their help,” I replied in a flattering tone. “Besides, Dad will be annoyed if you go alone.” She stood up from the bed to exit my room. “Thanks, Mom!” I yelled to her disappearing back. After she left, I got dressed and left my room. It took some time, but I eventually found the way to the main door since I was still not familiar with the mansion. “Let’s go. You know the way to Ana’s house right? We’ll pick her up from there and then will head to Club Marino,” I instructed the driver as I got into the SUV. “You’re late, Evie! Today you’re going to pay the bill.” Ana got into the car and I looked at her from top to bottom. Her tight skirt was too short and her top was revealing half of her cleavage. She had applied dark red lipsticks on her lips and her curled hair was released over her back. “What?” she asked as soon as she noticed that I was looking at her in scrutiny. “Don’t you think your outfit reveals too much of your skin? Just because we are going to a club doesn’t mean you have to wear sexy and revealing clothes,” I said as the driver turned the steering wheel toward the road. “Oh, come on, Evie! Not every girl is like you. I want to tease boys. Chill, girl! Why should I be afraid when I have my bodyguard right here?” she replied, pointing her finger at me. I couldn’t believe that I was talking to Evie’s school nerd, the very same girl she saved from being bullied by the boys. “Why were you late, Evie?” Ana asked while checking her reflection in her small pocket mirror. “I was in a deep sleep, Ana.” After she left, I fell into a deep sleep, probably due to the medications I took. “Are you okay, Evie?” she asked, placing her small mirror back into her purse. “I am fine, but still not fit enough to keep awake for hours or to do a workout,” I explained with a sigh. “I am glad that you brought your bodyguards with you. Usually, you hate when the bodyguards even appear near you,” she said. “Actually, Mom sent them with me. She’s worried about my health condition you know.” To be honest, the reason I agreed and brought them along was because I didn’t know the location of Ana’s house. Eventually, we reached the club and parked the car in the VVIP car park. The guards already knew us and Mr. Clerk may have informed the club about our presence. I signaled the bodyguards to stay outside and that I would call them if anything happened. The club was extremely crowded because it was a Friday night. My eyes soon started to scan the crowd. My hawk-like police eyes and the sense of all the crimes that could happen in a club started to slide into my mind. Ana and I entered the club and she led me to their usual place. She picked a red couch with the round table, most probably their usual spot when they visited the club. I noticed that even the waiters and bartenders were busy tending to the crowd. I was certain that even the DJ wouldn’t be able to move his a** away from his booth that night. “Hi, Miss Evie. Good evening. What can I get you? The usual or do you want to try something new?” A waitress approached us with a cheerful smile. Maybe she knew Evie well and was probably their permanent waitress that served them. Her name tag displayed the name ‘Elena’. “Bring me the cocktail of the day with some lemon slices,” I ordered. “Bring me a glass of whisky, Elena.” Ana’s order made my jaw drop. “Babe, I am sure that you’re going to welcome a mess tonight,” I replied, drinking the cold water Elena served to us. “Let’s celebrate you being alive in a different way, Evie! You kicked death to the curb, babe!” Ana winked at me and roamed her eyes around the club. Before I knew it, I noticed her licking her lips as she looked at a boy who was smirking at her, “Why are you flashing a lusty look to that boy?” “He is so handsome, Evie. Just look at his bulging biceps and forearms. I can die for him!” She squeezed my palms with glee. “Jeez! Calm down, Ana. We don’t know them.” I took another sip of cold water while rock music filled the air. “What about your cousin then? A few hours ago, you were going to die for him. You were dreaming of having babies with him and now you are flirting with someone else!” I recalled the way she sexily talked about her cousin’s brother. “But he is only coming tomorrow. I still have the time to enjoy myself. Come on, Evie! Chill out, honey!” She winked at me and I shook my head. “Ma’am, here’s your drink. Anything else?” I raised my head and realized that it was not Elena. “Where’s Elena?” I asked. “Yeah, where is she? She never misses our table,” Ana questioned the waitress. Something was not right. My police instincts were disturbed. I scanned the waitress from top to bottom. Her white waitress uniform was only as long as her mid-thigh and her push-up bra amplified her visible cleavage, pushing it out from the top of her dress. “She is a bit busy, so I took the turn to serve you,” the lusty waitress replied. “Never mind, Evie, we’ve got our drinks. Thanks anyway.” Ana took the drink, but I felt that something was not right. I turned my head to look at the boys who were flirting with Ana but they were not there. “Cheers then!” Ana raised her glass. Don’t drink this, Cherry! My mind stopped me but I emptied the entire cocktail in one gulp. “What’s wrong?” she asked and drank the whole glass of whisky before I could say anything. “You enjoy. I need to go to the bathroom.” I stood up from the couch and walked to the bathroom. I scanned the crowd to see everyone in their own world. The bathroom area was full of cigars and joints smoke while couples ate each other’s lips. Suddenly, my head started to spin. F**k! I knew they mixed something into the drinks! I quickly headed to the bathroom and vomited out every last drop of the drink from my body. Exhausted, I washed my face and mouth. Luckily, after a few minutes, I was back to normal. But I knew that I had to quickly check on Ana. Bastards, I will not spare you! A wicked smirk appeared on my face. I hadn’t enjoyed kicking a** for a long time, besides I needed to blow off some steam after losing my life, for being alive in the body of a mafia girl, and for trusting a chief who backstabbed me. I came out from the bathroom squeezing my head like I was dizzy and intoxicated. Swinging my body from side to side against the walls, I noticed the bunch of bastards were already on our couch. I gritted my teeth silently. Be patient, Cherry! You are going to ruin the party. Let them dance first. “Hi, sweetie. Are you all right?” a brunette man asked. “I…I feel dizzy.” I even changed my tone and slurred my speech to appear drunk. “Evie….” Ana couldn’t talk but could only hiccup. “Can you help us to reach our car?” I asked them politely but maintained a drunken tone. “Of course, sweetheart. Anything for you two!” I caught sight of their wink to each other along with a high-five. I smirked mentally. Poor boys! “Let’s go this way.” Two of them took Ana and the other two carried me in their arms. Even though I hated to be touched by men, I had to be patient. “Where are we going?” Ana asked softly. “Don’t worry, baby. You are safe with us,” one of them carrying her replied. “Oh, I knew you are so sweet.” Ana kissed the cheek of the boy. Ew… Ana! I will kick your b**t when you regain your consciousness. This is all because of your extremely revealing clothes. I mentally cursed her, but on the other hand, whatever was going to happen was about to be fun. After all, I hadn’t had a chance to stretch my arms for some time. They brought us out from the back door exit. I still acted like I was wobbling between a conscious and unconscious state. Soon, I noticed that they were taking us to a black van with tinted windows. “Put me down, I want to throw up!” Ana yelled all of a sudden. She was about to vomit. “F**k! Put her down!” The two boys quickly put Ana on the ground to vomit. The other two who carried me pushed me towards the van and ran towards the other two. Prepared for action, I quickly checked my surroundings. This is the time, Cherry! I didn’t know if Evie had a strong body but my accurate shots were still as strong as Cherry. Keep a low profile and teach them a lesson! I whistled at them, attracting their attention. “Busy there, boys?” I put my hands inside my jacket’s pockets and smirked. I mentally thanked Mrs. Clerk for picking out the best combat suit for me. “What the f**k, man? How did she?” one of them yelled. “The b***h tricked us! You messed with the wrong person, babe!” Another one of them launched himself at me. I smiled and gave a round kick to his stomach. He fell to the ground with a scream. “s**t, get the f****g b***h!” The other two came towards me with a knife. “Wanna play? Let’s play!” I bent my legs into a fighting stance. The one with a knife ran towards me but I kicked his wrist hard, making the knife fall from his hand. While he was distracted, I pulled him from his neck and hit his head on their own van’s windscreen. With a loud noise, the windscreen shattered into pieces. The other one who came to attack me froze on the spot before running away in fear. However, the last one was still standing, glaring at me. “B***h, I will teach you a lesson!” He began to run towards me with a pointed knife. I ducked away quickly and he couldn’t control his body, causing him to crash into the van. Then I pulled him from his collar and started to punch his face. Unfortunately, it was my bad luck, for I forgot about his knife. He slashed a sharp cut on my wrist and I winced in pain. Luckily, the bodyguards came running to me. “Ma’am, are you okay?” one of them asked as he checked my wrist. From the corner of my eyes, I saw the one who was fighting with me pulling his friends into the van and driving away hurriedly. “Carry Ana, we will drop her at her house first. But before that, stop by a pharmacy, they drugged Ana,” I explained. One of them got into the car and started driving while I used a piece of clean cloth to wrap my wound. Mrs. Clerk will surely kill me! Ana was still unconscious when we reached her house and her parents showered me with a rain of questions. Unfortunately, I had to feed them with a ton of lies. On the way back home, I stopped by a medical center and they stitched up my wound since it was quite a deep cut. Luckily Mr. and Mrs. Clerk were already asleep when I reached home. I quickly tip-toed to my room, wrapped the wound to protect it from getting wet, and took a shower, gently rubbing Evie’s body. “So I guess we helped each other today, Evie!” I patted Evie’s cheeks as I looked at the mirror.
