I slowly pulled the door to Kinley’s room shut so I wouldn’t wake her and tiptoed down the stairs, still wearing the skirt and blouse I had worn to church. In the living room, Todd sat on the couch, and Max and Kat each sat in one of the armchairs.
Audrie had dropped us all off at home after church. She had continued to the train station to meet with her partner, who was passing through and had files she needed for a case they were working.
I fell back onto the couch next to Todd and rested my head on his shoulder. Between worrying about Kinley, who wasn’t feeling any better, and Keppler, who hadn’t shown up or called, I had only gotten a few hours of sleep.
