“This is going to be so much fun.” Kat stacked containers of cookies on the counter next to her meticulously wrapped pies. “I can’t believe I talked Charlie into ice skating.”
I sat at the table and listened to my sister chatter, wishing I could overhear Emma’s conversation with Todd in the next room. He had spent most of the day dozing, and confessed to me his throat was scratchy and he had chills. I didn’t think Emma would let him go to the festival and I didn’t want him to go out feeling miserable, but I didn’t want to go without him.
