“So, Nick was sitting on the ground looking up at Aaron and me. He was in pretty bad shape and scared to trust either one of us, but he decided we were his best option. Ever since then, the three of us have been trying to survive together.” Lareina sat cross-legged on the bed in our spare bedroom upstairs.
My sister and I sat next to each other on the foot of the bed, listening attentively to her answer to Kat’s question about how long she had known Nick and Aaron. It reminded me of when Lareina would spend the night and tell Kat and me stories about all of the different places she had lived.
“And you have a crush on Nick. Right?” Kat ignored my elbow nudging her arm. “I’ve seen you two holding hands with your fingers laced together.”
