Luka didn’t hesitate to carry me all the way to the carriage. Everyone’s eyes widened in shock. People commented on the unbelievable sight in front of them.
My cheeks were red from embarrassment.
He slowly put me down inside the carriage and I winced at the pain in my back.
“Are you ok?!” he exclaimed, his eyes filled with alert.
“N-no, I am fine. Thank you.”
He didn’t look satisfied by my reply, biting my cheeks and staring at me. He then lets out a sigh.
“Excuse me” he muttered before getting out of the carriage.
“Find out what happened” I heard him tell the man outside. “Tell the doctor to come to my chambers”
“Your chambers? Your majesty, you can’t do that. It might be ok for you but for the lady, it will be a big trouble. Kindly calm down and consider your order”
There was silence for a few seconds. “Fine. Arrange the doctor to come to the royal guest room”
“As you wish”
After that, Luka joined me in the carriage. As we traveled to his palace, I could feel his eyes on me. I, on the other hand, tried my best not to look at him.
“What happened?” he asked as I looked at him
“I-….” I was confused about what I should tell him. His kingdom is now the closest ally to my kingdom. It won’t be long before he gets the royal letter of my escape. I am sure he won’t risk his relationship with the kingdoms and let me go.
“You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to” he voiced bringing my attention back to the king. He sighed and took off his coat.
I leaned back as he reached out. He put his large warm coat over my shoulder before going back to his seat. “Don’t look so stressed and alarmed. You are safe here, my lady” he looked confident as he said those words.
For some reason, I felt warm, not only because of his gesture but his words.
Can I trust him? No. Are those words just mere meaningless words? Maybe.
But still. For some reason, my heart felt a sense of relief as if it believed the words of this man blindly.
“Th-thank you”
The carriage passed through the busy village, every single person stopping to praise the king as he passed through.
“We are here” Luka suddenly announced looking out the window. I followed his action and looked outside.
“Welcome to the palace of Nyxia.”
“Whoa” I couldn’t help but stare at it in awe. “It’s so majestic and beautiful”
Those two words fit the description of the palace perfectly. On the outside the palace was huge. It was made in an unfamiliar architecture. It had many towers with had open roof and huge gates. The palace looked white and it looked like there were some kind of crystallized stones on many parts.
“Make yourself like home, my lady”
He looked happy seeing how awed I was.
I used to hear rumors about the structures of the dragon from the people who went there. Even the royal members who had come here had been struck by the magnificent structure. Even though I was able to go with them to the meeting and other matters in this kingdom, I was never invited.
A part of me knew it was because of the dance that happened between me and the dragon king at the banquet.
The carriage stopped in front of a huge flight of steps. The guard opened the door, and everyone around bowed their heads as Luka stepped out.
“My lady?” he called as he turned around and extended his hand towards me. I had no other choice but to accept it.
As I stepped out of the carriage, I could feel the intense stare from everyone. They all looked confused and alert about what was happening. Their king had suddenly come back to the palace with a girl all bruised and dirty. She even rode in the same carriage with him and even held hands with him.
I would have the same expressions as well if I were in their shoes.
“This lady here is a very special guest. She is a person of great importance, so I expect everyone to be readily attentive around her” he announced making me freeze.
Great. Another way to grab more attention.
Everyone bowed their heads accepting the king’s orders. A man of high authority walked towards me with a small smile.
“Welcome to our humble kingdom, my lady. I hope you have a pleasant stay”
It was the same man Luka had talked to earlier.
“Hello Sir”
“Please, call me Seth. I am his majesty’s Vizier and right hand. The one who keeps him on his right path” he grinned as he bowed his head.
The king rolled his eyes at the Vizier’s remarks but didn’t say anything. Just by that, it is clear how close they are.
“Enough with the talk” the dragon king moved towards me. Before I could even say a single word, he picked me up.
That’s right! He picked me up without caring about the dozens of people in front of us!
Everyone’s mouth widened in shock. I struggled in his grasp wanting to break away, but this man was too strong. In the end, my only resort was to bury my face into my hand hoping everyone would somehow be struck by amnesia when they woke up the next day.
He walked into a large luxurious room and set me down on a sofa.
“Woah” I voiced seeing the grant sight in front of me.
The place had a large glass window which showed an amazing view of the night skies.
“You like it?” he asked grabbing my attention.
“It’s beautiful”
“I couldn’t agree more” he replied as I looked at him. My heart skipped a beat as I saw him staring at me with a small smile.
“W-what?”
“Nothing.” He paused and bit his inner cheek before leaning in closer. “You look as beautiful as you were back then”
His comment made me blush and I looked away clearing my throat.
I was glad when there was a knock on the door because I didn’t know what to say.
A doctor walked into the room hurriedly followed by 3 other maids.
“Your majesty, what is the emergency?” he asked while trying to catch his breath.
“Treat her wounds and see if she is alright” the dragon king at once replied. The doctor nodded his head and walked towards me but only to stop after two steps.
“Human?” he asked surprised. He looked at me shocked and I could only give him an awkward smile waving my hand.
“Yeah, I am”
He stared at me for another second before clearing his throat and walking to me. “Right. May I treat your wound?” he asked as I smiled and nodded my head.
“Yes please”
As the doctor opened the briefcase and took out the medicine, Luka turned to the 3 maids.
“Prepare the bath and the finest clothes for the lady. She will want to take one after we see the doctor. Also, get her room ready. The one at the left end corner”
The maids looked shocked for a moment but then nodded their heads before running out of the room.
Luka stood right behind the doctor as he took care of my wounds. The man looked tense at the presence of his majesty hoping he doesn’t make any kind of mistakes.
“Let’s start?” he asked as I nodded my head. I was confused when he raised his hand in the air, closing his eyes.
My eyes widened as a warm golden light started to shine from the palm of his hands. They moved over each wound lingering there for a minute or two. Every time he went past the wounds they looked healed, only a small scar being left behind.
“Woah, healing magic?” I was honestly surprised. Of course, I have heard the healing magic of the dragon but to experience it in real time? Truly mesmerizing.
“Yes, amazing, isn’t it? But I have also learned your mundane way of medicine and I am really amazed by how well it is. It may be a slow process but the effect in the end is amazing” he seemed to lose his nervous stance as he started to talk about it.
“Why are there scars on her skin?” Luka suddenly asked making the doctor shut up and once again turn tensed.
“Your majesty, her wound doesn’t look too bad but since she is human, I can only use so much magic. Her scars will have to heal on their own. It's also similar when it comes to large wounds. Human bodies won’t be able to take so much magic inside them.”
The king only hummed in reply looking worried and irritated. Toward the end of the treatment, the door opened, and Seth came in with a worried looking face.
“Your majesty, we have a problem,” he said as he crumbled the paper in his hand, his eyes making a quick glance at me. For some reason, I knew it was something related to me.
Is it the letter from Kingdom Aedion about my missing? There is a chance that it could be. A whole day has passed, and they must have surely found out that I escaped.
“I will take my leave for a quick moment, Lady,” he said before walking out of the door.
“Are you ok?” the doctor asked looking at me in worry.
“I- I am ok” I gave him a smile even though I felt like I would faint.
“Your vitals are a bit abnormal.” He said with a frown. “Everything is a bit too much”
“Ah, don’t worry. It has been like that since I was young. Everyone thought it was because I was the chos- “I stopped as I realized what I was saying. I was going to expose everything to a complete stranger. “Ah um…. It's just been like that since I was small and so these are quite normal readings for me”
The doctor looked at me skeptically but didn’t question further.
Once he was done, he quickly packed his stuff and stood up. He gave me a few tonics for nutrients and told me to take a good rest. After he left, another 5 minutes passed before the door opened.
I stood up as the king walked into the room with an angry face. Seth was right behind him, talking and trying to calm him down.
Fear built inside me as I knew I was doomed. I tried so hard to run away from my fate, but I failed. I could see a glimpse of my picture on the paper in his hands.
He now knows I am a traitor, a betrayer soon to be hanged.
“Zehra” he called my name making me shiver. “You are being sentenced to death! I don’t know what happened and- “
“I didn’t do anything wrong! I was accused wrongly”. I tried to talk over him, but he wasn’t listening as he continued to ask questions in shock.
“You will be killed the moment I hand you over. They even said it was alright if we killed you, but we need to return your body. Zehra- “
As the last resort, I fell on my knees, tears falling down my cheeks. But he also went on his knees grabbing my hands.
“Please let me go. I will run away from here”
“Will you marry me?!”
