As Georgiana stepped out of her car, she gazed up at the towering office building before her and it was an sight to see. And, the largest buildings in the country as well. Georgiana's heart raced with excitement as she is stood there, watching. Today marked the beginning of a new chapter in her career. She was ready for new life to take a turn for the best.
Immediately, Georgiana walked inside the grand lobby, her eyes going left and right, as she was trying her very best capture every detail of this magnificent working place.
It was all glass interior on the inside, mixed with a little bit of marble. A large chandelier on top and it was very modern yet again made of glass. It was a long walk where ever anyone had to go and this building stretched out in every way possible.
It wasn't just beautiful, it was simply breath taking.
However, right there came young woman approached her with a warm smile. She was slightly short with blonde hair.
"Hello, Georgiana. My name is Emma Martin, and I was assigned as your assistant." Emma introduced herself stretching her hand as they both shook.
"Yes, of course I was told about you." Georgiana said delighted.
"Why don't you follow me. I'll be showing you around today." Emma said and Georgiana's eyes sparkling with anticipation for what more was there to see.
Emma led Georgiana through the sleek, modern office spaces. Going up to the 20th floor.
"Over here, this is the Finance Department, also new refurnished." Emma explained as they passed through a busy floor filled with focused employees.
"And here's the Freshers' Area, where the newcomers get acquainted with the company." Emma said and Georgiana watched as new college students where walking around, and trying to see this place for themselves. But she did not have as much as time as them.
Georgiana admired the efficient layout of this place. Everything looks so well-organized.
"And here's the Relaxation Room," Emma pointed out next.
"It's where employees come to unwind and recharge." Georgiana nodded appreciatively.
Emma then guided her to the 30th floor. And once the elevator doors of opened, she saw the space she would be great working on. And it was breathtaking.
White, marble floors and walls of glass offered a panoramic view of the city.
"This is where your office is." Emma said, her voice filled with pride.
Georgiana's eyes widened as they approached her new office. As they entered her room, Georgiana noticed a nameplate being placed outside a nearby office.
"Who's that office for?" she asked, curious.
Emma glanced at the nameplate and then back at Georgiana.
"Oh, that's for the new CEO. The company was handed over to him just last month. He's made a huge impact already and now he's finally joining us with his own team." Georgiana's eyes widened in surprise. It was fascinating to see that the man wasn't even here and he was already creating a greater company.
"A new CEO?"she muttered. And Emma smiled.
As Georgiana walked in, she stood frozen in shocked and delight, as she took in the large room before her. The walls were lined with elegant panels, and in one corner, a grand window offered a breathtaking view of the city below. At the center of the room, a large table and its polished surface reflecting the soft light. To her delight, there was even a washroom in a corner.
The size if the room made her stunned.
"Oh come on.." she said. Looking at every detail.
"Is there anything else you need, Ms. Georgiana?" Emma inquired.
Georgiana managed a composed her self.
"No, I'm fine. Thank you."
The assistant nodded.
"If you'd need my help in anything, just let me know."
Pleased with the offer Georgiana thanked her new assistant, throwing her bag on the couch and with a big smile she rushed to the window of her office.
This was all bigger and better than her last job. However, she immediately made her way out of the room, just to see her department, when, as she stepped out, Georgiana immediately collided with someone that stood right in front of her doors.
She did not see it coming but hit a very large man. His body felt like a tree.
Although, the impact was painful. Her face hurt bad from the collision, and she raised her hands to her hurt nose and cheeks.
"Oh! I'm so terribly sorry." The man's voice deep and apologetic. He looked down, holding her arms gently to steady her and Georgiana winced in pain. Slowly she glanced up, only to find herself staring into the face of Carlos.
The same Carlos she had admired from her college days.
Her eyes went wide open and at the same time, Carlos's eyes widened in shock as well.
"Georgiana?" He whispered surprised. His brown eyes confused yet very happy.
Georgiana's initial pain but she was so completely taken a back because he looked just the same, but you was bigger and he looked stronger. Had broad chest as well.
"Still coming in my way of everything" she said, playing with him like you always did. And he had the biggest smile on his face. Because he truly did miss her.
She might have liked him all through out college and high school, but she did not know that for Carlos she felt something for Georgiana. Even though all the girls were for him, he did not want any of them. She Was always very special to Carlos.
Carlos's expression softened at her sight.
"I'm really sorry about that. I wasn't looking where I was going."
"It's okay," Georgiana chuckled, her eyes sparkling with amusement.
Both of them laughed, their nervousness melting into something amusing. Carlos had a genuine smile.
"Well, it's good to see you again. How have you been?" He asked genuinely. But before Georgiana could respond to him. Suddenly, the elevator doors slid open with a soft noise, and some how it captured, Georgiana and Carlos attention.
There was suddenly bustling in the office floor. As they both saw multiple men and women exiting out of the lift.
It was almost like, Georgiana’s gaze was immediately drawn to the figure ahead of them. And right in between of the crowd she saw a man, and his aura was different from everyone else.
He was impeccably dressed in a tailored suit of the highest quality, walked with an air of authority that was hard to miss. And with him were his secretary, several assistants, and a few high-ranking executives. Their movements synchronized and respectful.
This, a little bit intermediated her.
Carlos leaned closer to Georgiana, his voice a whisper.
“That’s the CEO. The big guy.”
Georgiana managed a tight smile. The crowd around the CEO moved after a while, and that is when Georgiana got a clear view of the man's face.
"Huuhhh..." She gasped, her heart dropped into her stomach when she recognized him. And like a bolt of lightning the realisation hit her.
It was Arthur Miller. The very same Arthur she had hoped never to see in her life again. . She was not only shocked, Georgiana was anger, and stunned, confused and suddenly breathless.
Her eyes locked on Arthur's for a fleeting moment. She could see the surprise in his eyes before he quickly masked it with his usual stern demeanor. Despite the brief recognition, he shifted his focus back to the office environment, creating a visible barrier between them.
Georgiana’s heart pounded furiously. Carlos, perceptive as ever, noticed the change in her demeanor.
“Hey, are you okay?” he asked, concern evident in his voice.
Georgiana brought herself back to reality and forced a smile, though her eyes betrayed her inner pain.
“I’m fine, just a bit of a headache. It’ll pass,” she said, her voice steady but her hands trembling slightly.
Carlos looked at her with worry and sympathy.
“If you’re not feeling up to it, I can let the team know. I could brief you later, or your assistant could catch you up on the details.”
“No,” Georgiana said firmly, shaking her head.
“I need to face this head-on.
I’m a professional now.” Carlos gave her an encouraging nod.
“Alright, if you’re sure.”
Georgiana took a deep breath, her resolve hardening.
“I appreciate it, Carlos. I’ll be fine. Thank you.”
As Carlos walked away to handle his own tasks, Georgiana turned back towards her office. Her footsteps felt heavy, each one echoing her mounting anxiety. Once inside, she shut the door behind her and approached the large window, the cityscape beyond offering a temporary reprieve from her distress.
She placed a calming hand on her chest, trying to steady her breath as she stared out at the horizon. The view was beautiful, but it did little to soothe the storm raging within her. Her thoughts were clear. She was here to stay, and she would not allow Arthur to undermine her confidence or interfere with her professional life.
With determination, Georgiana reminded herself that she had the skills and the resilience to handle this situation. She was not the anxious young student she once was. She was now a capable professional. She took another deep breath.
She was ready for the day.
