Chapter three

2261 Words
~Dawn~ Me and Nick had been driving for hours. I was glad that we had taken the jeep as the smooth ride meant that I managed to catch up on some much needed sleep. I tossed and turned for hours last night, thinking over what Nick wanted me to do and about Nole’s words of encouragement, eventually running out of my house in the middle of the night and banging on the alpha’s front door to tell Nick my answer. Then there were the tears of goodbye from Amber, my mother as well as a few sniffles from my dad’s and brothers. The only one not looking like they were sad to see me go was Nole, but I could tell that that was only because he was too proud to be sad. He had high aspirations, and seeing me, his weak submissive sister, going off at the request of the lead alpha himself was a great honour. I had a momentary breakdown when a very tired but smiling Nick informed me that we would be going to Alpha Ash’s pack first thing in the morning to speak to Trevor. I could not believe I had so little time to think of what to wear, what to say. Do I play it cool and be just like, “Hey.”? Do I tell him about my near obsession, “Oh my god Trev, I can’t believe I am meeting you in the flesh. You back hacking into data storage techniques is my favorite!”? Not only that, but what should I wear? I had never been one to dress to impress, all my tshirts having some form of witty comment on them and mainly owning jeans or punky skirts. I had finally settled on a black and bright pink tartan skirt that matched my hair, my signature combat boots and a black tank top that had “I’m only halfway to the meaning of life, don’t judge me!”. The rest of my clothes were crammed into two suitcases, with a third just for my tech equipment. Nick had insisted that he would give me enough money to get whatever I needed while undercover, but I liked what I liked. I did not want to be worrying about buying clean underwear when I also had to worry about not getting caught by the evil corporation I was employed by. Not to mention all my technology was set up just the way I liked it, there was no way I was going to be breaking in a new device unless I had to. I had managed to get a few hours sleep, after staring out the window intently for what felt like forever before the Jeep jostled to one side waking me. I scooted up slightly in my seat to look out at the beautiful woodlands surrounding the beaten path we now drove on. “Ah good, you’re awake!” Nick announced, sounding way too chirpy. “We are here.” Crap! I sat up straight, pulling at my shirt that had gotten creased in my sleep before pulling down the visor to see that I had managed to drool down one side of my mouth. s**t! I licked the tips of two fingers, scrubbing at the small line of dry saliva, leaving a lovely red mark. I grumbled as I tried to make the few bits of my hair that were rebelling against the others and refusing to frame my face, instead making me look like I had been dragged through a hedge backwards. As I was still tugging frantically at my hair, we came to a stop, Nick rolling down the window before a deep voice greeted us. I looked over to see Josh standing in a small booth beside a metal gate. I let out a small sigh of relief, leaving my infernal hair alone prefering to look a bit disheveled than like I was having a breakdown pulling my own hair out when we bump into Trev. Josh had always been nice, his mate Jen was so kind and warm hearted but just as submissive as me and so it was not a surprise to anyone when they decided to leave the lead alpha’s pack with alpha Ash. “Josh, how are Jen and Alison?” Nick smiled. “They are good thanks. Alison has finally grown out of clinging to her mum like she is still in the womb and plays much more with Hendrix and Rose now.” Josh smiled back, talking about his daughter as well at Alpha Ash’s twins. We had had a massive celebration at our pack when they were born, much to Shauna and Slaters dismay, since neither of them had found their mates yet. They had every unmated male and female at their feet, but their fathers rightly suggested that they wait to find their true mates. I had always secretly hoped that Trev would be my true mate, hoping that if he ever saw me again that there would be this explosion of fireworks and he would take me in his arms, and in his bed. Nick and Josh finished their conversation while I was in my own little world, Josh pushing a button to open up the gate which creaked slightly before Nick drove through. Alpha Ash had definitely chosen a beautiful place to set up his pack. The trees were thick and luscious, the ground looked soft yet sturdy and if I wasn’t mistaken, I could hear the light running of water like a stream in the distance. We came to a stop, my eyes wandering up the three story cabin, which was more of a mansion than anything else, spotting a few smaller versions in the distance as well through the trees. “Are you ready?” Nick asked, giving me a warm smile. I took a deep breath, looking out the window to see the front door opening and nodding my head before I completely lost my nerve. When we both climbed out, I quickly tried to brush some of the creases out of my skirt, suddenly thinking that I should have just opted for jeans instead. “Ashley.” Nick greeted, walking away to give his son a hug as I slowly looked over at the large group that had come out to greet us. My eyes instantly landed on Trev. He was more muscular than I remembered, but still not as big as the other wolves in the pack, his hair was a medium length, dark brown, sweeping from one side of his face. His grey eyes were locked on me, making my breath catch in my throat before he made a small muttering sound and rolled his eyes, looking pissed off. What the hell? “Ash, this is Dawn who will be applying for a job at Tallen Corp next week.” Nick introduced me, making me shake my head and walk over to stand beside him. Alpha Ash was standing next to a short blonde she wolf who I assumed was his mate Cassy, next to her was a brown haired wolf stood in front of Theo, a red head was clasped in Ste’s arms and a she wolf with a neat plat running down her back and a small baby bump stood with Luke. Jen walked over, giving me a warm smile. “I don’t know if you remember me…” “Jen.” I quickly said, trying to prove that I did, a small smile forming on her face at the sound of her own name, not expecting me to remember it or not expecting it to blurt it out so bluntly. “Well, let’s go inside.” Cassy smiled at me, making me relax slightly. I had worried that she would be stuck up like some of the females in the lead alphas pack, but the way she smiled made me think of Luna Vic and even though I was not better at talking to her than any other wolf in the pack, at least she didn’t hold that against me. The pack turned and walked inside, Trev almost pushing his way through to stand in front of Nick. “I can’t believe that you are sending her in over me! I mean look at her, she stands out like a sore thumb.” I heard Trev grumble as I walked past following the others inside. My stomach felt like it had bottomed out, my face scrunching up as I winced at his harsh words. This was not how it was meant to go when Trev saw me again. I hung my head, picking up my pace and almost running inside behind the others. ~Trev~ Fuck. I don’t have a clue who this little she wolf is, but she has my wolf’s full attention. Her bright pink hair which matches her tartan skirt made my eyes travel to her shapely legs. I snapped my eyes up, being drawn to the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy pun stretched across her chest. “Fuck.” I grumble, rolling my eyes. Why the hell did Nick have to pick someone like her to go undercover? My wolf could sense how submissive she was, making him growl at the thought of her being put in harm's way. Nick introduced her as Dawn. It was fitting given that she was like a new light in the darkness that I had been stewing in. After a few pleasantries are passed, the others head inside and I cannot help but approach my old mentor. “I can’t believe that you are sending her in over me! I mean look at her, she stands out like a sore thumb.” Remembering what Sanna had to do to get us out when we had all been captured made my hackles rise at the thought of a sick and twisted bastard's hands being on her body and her having to play along making me feel sick. “Trev, they will spot you coming a mile away. The fact that Dawn wears her individuality so openly is part of why they would never suspect her as being a wolf, nevermind someone who is trying to secretly go undercover.” Nick growls protectively, showing how much he cares for her. Although I was happy that Nick was on her side, given I knew how much of a good guy he was, it still did not put my mind at ease. “She is so f*****g submissive.” I spit harshly, knowing that she does not have Sanna’s training from Cassy to resist commands they could get her to do anything like their puppet. “There has been no evidence that they have used wolves in the same way as before in a long time. I believe that since the fighting clubs were closed down they are using all the wolves they can get their hands on to make their sick little videos meaning that it doesn’t matter how submissive she is. In fact, it will work in her favour as she can keep her cool a lot better than you can.” Nick huffed, making a slight dig at my current attitude before walking inside. I ran a hand through my hair, not sure how I was going to make it through this if I was already feeling so protective over Dawn and all I had heard her say was one word. I followed Nick inside, heading through to the living room where everyone was sitting around. My eyes instantly went to Dawn who had a very excited Rose and Alison in front of her. “I like yo air.” Rose babled, Alison nodding her agreement as always. “Mum I was ink air!” Cassy stiffened slightly. “Wait till you are older sweetheart and if you still want pink hair, we will talk.” Rose crossed her arms at this, hating to be told no. “Come on Alion.” She huffed, grabbing Alison’s hand and walking with her to where Hendrix sat with Jason, trying to take over from Hendrix telling Jason which toys were the best. “I think we should talk in my office.” Alpha Ash announced, noting how Dawn stood with her arms wrapped around her at the side of the room, obviously not comfortable in the large crowd. “Trev, Nick, Ste, Dawn.” he announced, taking Cassy’s hand and leading the way. I stayed behind, waiting for Dawn to skate around the room to walk next to her, be close to her. “What is your online persona?” I asked as I walked slightly behind her. She smelt like candy floss and caramel, my mouth almost drooling. God, I wondered if she tasted as good as she smelled. She jumped slightly, not turning as she carried on behind the others. “Punky Princess.” She mumbled, making me smile. “Punky Princess.” I repeated under my breath, thinking how fitting it was. She certainly was a Punky Princess and I was in deep s**t if I had to spend a lot of time around her, but god there was no way she was going to keep me away now.
