The blood pack (Book five)

Chapter four

Dawn

We walked into Alpha Ash’s office, his mate sitting on his lap while Ste took a seat in an arm chair in the room and Nick and Trev sat at either side of a small sofa in the room. I looked at the small gap between Nick and Trev, knowing that I could probably fit but also aware that I would not be able to concentrate sitting so close to Trev, especially since I was struggling to keep my mind straight even from where I stood against the wall.

He had already shown how disinterested he was in me but his words to Nick outside and the way he laughed at my hacker name, the last thing I needed was to embarrass myself by becoming aroused in this small enclosed space.

Nick turned to his son, his face set hard. “Dawn is the best hacker I have trained in a long time. Alpha Eric agrees that she is the one most suited to go undercover, but he appreciates all that you and your pack have done in means of the footwork and so he is willing to allow you to send one person to watch over her while she is on the mission.” I blushed slightly at Nick’s compliment, tucking my short hair behind my ear as he gave me a warm smile.

Alpha Ash nodded. “I am thankful that father has done this, I have already discussed the matter with Trev and he will be going to support her.”

I froze, my eyes widening as I looked at Nick who looked equally as shocked and Trev who just looked pissed. “Are you sure that Trev is the right choice?” Nick asked, his brow raising questioningly.

Trev let out a small huff. “I am the only one qualified to go and you know it. Hell, I don’t care what you both think. I still believe that sending me undercover would be better than sending her.”

I flinched slightly at the gruffness of Trev’s voice. I don’t remember him being this intimidating. I felt like he was seeing me as a child or a nuisance, when really I wanted him to see me as his peer. Well, I wanted more than to be seen as his peer, much more, but I already felt like all hope of that had gone out the window with the way his grey orbs stared at me like he was trying to set me on fire.

“We have already talked about this Trev.” Alpha Ash sighed, Nick nodding his head.

“If you cannot accept that Dawn is the one going into Tallen Corp then maybe you should not go at all and Jonny should be the one to watch over her.” Nick threatened, a small growl under his voice showing his displeasure.

I watched as Trev rolled his eyes again, looking like being stuck with me for god knows how long was going to be the worst experience ever. “Fine.” He grumbled, crossing his arms still not seeming fully on board with the idea but knowing that he was not going to be able to talk them out of it.

“Good.” Alpha Ash nodded. “As I informed Trev last night, he can act as a sounding board for Dawn and also protect her when needed. We thought that the pretence of him being Dawn’s boyfriend would stop people from asking too many questions…”

“Boyfriend?” I blurted out, my eyes looking at Nick who just gave me a small nod.

“As you are supposed to be unemployed at the moment, moving to the area with hopes of being able to find work, we have only arranged for a one bedroom apartment.”

“How did you sort out the rental agreement?” Trev asked.

“Don’t worry. We set up fake bank accounts in both of your names as well as a joint one. We have created a transaction history that shows you working across the country and leading you to both having just moved into the area. It is airtight, no one will know that the history is a fake or where the money originally came from.” Nick explained, a small smirk on his face.

“I want to look at that before we go.” Trev insisted.

Nick laughed. “I thought you would. Now, we don’t want to draw attention to the fact that you are passing information to us so we will arrange a drop off point that will be used only once a week. Make sure you include updates on what you have learned about the company and also any plans you have of areas you are going to try and investigate.” He told me as I nodded my head, still thinking more about the fact that I was going to be sharing a one bedroom apartment with my idol, my crush, who seemed to hate me. How was I going to do this? Live so close to the man that I had dreamed about, fantasised about, and manage to keep myself from spiralling out enough to pull this s**t off.

“Good thinking. They obviously have someone tech savvy that is able to keep all their sensitive information hidden from us, it would be too risky to send anything electronic until we know more about how the company works. What about transport?” Trev asked.

Ste smiled. “Well I was thinking that you could take Sanna’s old car. She does not use it anymore and it is old enough and rusted enough to look like you are both down on your luck.”

Trev stiffened, but didn’t say anything, making me think that the car was not going to be as comfortable as the jeep had been and it would be a long ride to get to anywhere close to where the Tallen Corp main office was. I bit my lip, thinking of being so close to him for so long, there was no way that I would be able to stop myself from imagining him reaching over and placing his large hand on my exposed thigh, the simple thought making me pull my legs tightly together. s**t.

Trev and Nick started to discuss different aspects of going undercover, both getting more and more technical by the minute. Hell, I was struggling to keep up ith their conversation and I had been trained in their field, and I could tell that the others in the room were completely lost.

“Let’s go to my office and I will inspect what you have set up before having a run in my wolf form before we go.” Trev announced as he pushed off the sofa and walked over to the door, stopping in front of me. “You should go for a run too, we don’t know how long it will be before we are allowed to shift again.”

His scent was so strong with him being so close. It was like being wrapped in a warm blanket and I had to fight every instinct inside of me that was begging me to lean into the scent and let it cacoon around me. “I don’t shift that much.” I quickly replied, wishing I hadn’t at the way Trev raised a brow. It wasn’t that I didn’t have a good relationship with my wolf, or that I did not enjoy the freedom that running in my wolf form provided, but she never felt comfortable shifting when everyone around her was so much more dominant and she was.

“Punky, he is right, you should shift.” Trev smiled encouragingly. I nodded my head in response, afraid that if I opened my mouth again I would find another way to make an i***t of myself.

Alpha Ash gave his mate a passionate kiss, making me instantly look away from the pair before he stood and placed her on his chair and Trev, Nick and Alpha Ash left the room, Ste following closely behind. Cassy gave me a small smile. “So, you must know a lot of the guys from when they were in your pack huh?” She asked.

I shrugged slightly. “Not really.” I mumbled. When I saw that she was not satisfied with my response, I added. “No one there really knows me. Well except Nick…”

“And Trev.” Cassy added, a brown raised as her blue eyes sparkled slightly.

I blushed. “Trev didn’t know who I was.”

“But he knows who you are now.” She retorted.

I sighed heavily. “Yeah. The annoying little girl who he is being forced to babysit while he thinks he can do the job twice as good as me.”

To my surprise, that seemed to make Cassy smile even more. “I wouldn’t worry that much about it, Trev can seem abrasive at first, but he is a big puppy really.” I could not help but laugh at that. Trev seemed like many things, but a big puppy was not one of them.

Trev

I took my time to go through all that Nick had done, making sure that everything was perfect. My wolf was not happy that I was keeping him from the run I had promised him with his Punky Princess, but there was no way that I was going to do a hash job just so he could have what he wanted. s**t. His Punky Princess? She was mine too. I could tell by the way Nick and Alpha Ash were acting that I had not made the best first impression. In all honesty, if I could have managed to talk them into letting me go undercover instead I would have kept on fighting, even though I knew that they were right.

Satisfied with the job, I gave Nick a nod and got up to go and look for where the little she wolf had gotten to. Nick reached out, grabbing my arm and stopping me from leaving. I looked at where his hand was wrapped around my arm, before looking at him confused.

“Trev, I do not say this lightly, given that you and I have spent a lot of time together and I like to think of you as like a third son to me. But Dawn is also like a second daughter and I swear to god that if you hurt her or f**k around with her then I will do all I can to make sure you are dealt the same.” I could not help but smile slightly at his threat, even though I knew that I would never hurt her.

“You have nothing to worry about.” I shrugged, trying to leave but unable to as Nick continued to hold on to me.

“I mean it, Trev. Her family doesn't get her, the pack doesn’t get her, but she has one hell of a brain and I will not have you placing the seeds of doubt in there that make her put herself and the mission at risk.” Nick growled, his eyes turning to those of his wolf.

That made me growl slightly. The thought that such a shining star had been overlooked did not sit well with me. Why would anyone ever make her feel like she was not perfect, just the way she was? I suddenly heard my wolf growl slightly, realising that I had been doing that since she got here. f**k, why do I always seem to f**k up? You would think I would have learned my lesson when I put my foot in it with Niomi and almost ended up ruining her and Luke’s relationship before it had even started.

“Like I said, you have nothing to worry about.” I repeated more forcefully. That seemed to be enough to satisfy Nick as he let go of my arm and finally allowed me to go and search for her. As I walked out of my office, I could hear laughter coming from the living room and decided it was likely that she was in there with the others.

As I got closer, I wished that Nick had really not stopped me for his little man to man conversation as I heard Niomi laugh and say. “You would not think it once you get to know him, but I swear he was so unapproachable after he found out that I was a lone wolf that I almost did not join the blood pack.”

I froze, wincing slightly as I knew she had probably told the whole tail of how my unease of her pack status had led to her ex almost killing not only Luke, but Theo as well. I continued walking, picking up my pace in hopes of getting there before they had a chance to say anything else. As I walked in, Dawn was eating a huge sandwich that Jen had obviously made for her, her bright eyes turning to me as if she had sensed I was there as she chewed on the large bite she had just taken.

Niomi was sitting on Luke’s lap on the sofa, his hand resting on her baby bump, while Sanna was sitting on Theo’s. Cassy sat with Rose on her knee, the ends of her blonde hair looking like she had been trying to colour it in with pink felt tip pens which was probably why she was smiling widely at Dawn.

“We need to run before we head out.” I announced Dawn quickly putting the sandwich down and starting to get to her feet before I stopped her. “Finish your food first, it will be a long drive even without stopping.”

Still standing, Dawn picked up her sandwich, taking three big bites at once before frantically chewing and swallowing it and then stuffing the rest of it into her mouth. I raised my brow in curiosity as she tried to chew on the oversized bite before finally managing to swallow. “That is not what I meant.” I sighed, trying to hold back a chuckle at her actions.

I watched as her cheeks turned red and her head hung slightly. For god’s sake Trev, why can't you just say one thing nice to her? Why are you picking apart everything she is doing? Dawn kept her head low as she walked past me, giving me a wide berth as she headed outside. I looked over to see all the females glaring at me, knowing just how much I had messed up. I sighed again, turning on my heels and running after her out of the pack house.
