Some saner fragment of her mind assimilated and tried to follow his directions, but most of her awareness centered on the man himself. After several tries, she managed to concentrate and then began to get the feel of it. The smooth, easy motion of the trigger amazed her. “I never knew it was so easy.” Her voice sounded strangely high and breathless, but she went on, needing some outlet for the flood of nervous energy sweeping through her. “I always had to struggle to pull the trigger. I think I dreaded, anticipated the noise, the awful jolt…” She let the words trail off. She focused suddenly on the smooth steel in her hands. The dark revolver felt like a part of the man.
