Nico’s P.O.V.
I groaned, feeling how my body had just been smacked down into the hard ground of the earth. I could still feel fists and feet getting in contact with my body every few seconds. Somewhere along the line, I think I passed out for a while. But they must have knocked me right back awake again, because the next thing I knew, I was being dragged to someplace else, into a dark tent, and dumped onto a chair. My hands were tied behind my back, feet were tied to the chair as well. I was not getting out of here on my own terms and I f*****g knew it.
Well shit
That did not go as planned.
at all…
I looked around, even though my eyes were foggy, probably from the blood that was filling my eyes and the massive black eye that was starting to swell along with it, and I wondered if I would even be able to see anything in a couple of hours from now. If I would be lucky enough to be alive by then, that is. I looked to my right, seeing how Alpha Dimitri was standing at the side of the tent, his arms crossed, looking at me as if he had just seen something filthy, like a rodent, and he needed to exterminate it, get rid of it, crush it with his thumb because he was that kind of psychopath.
Lucky me...
“You played me, Nico.” Alpha Dimitri spoke, his voice sounding cold, like death.
“And even worse, you played me for a fool. That was a big mistake on your part,” he added, walking over towards me. God, my ribs were killing me, all I wanted to do was lean forward, to try and take the pain away, but my Alpha didn’t let me, as he grabbed a good fistful of my hair and yanked my head up, forcing me to look at him as I groaned out in pain.
Yup,
those ribs were broken alright...
Dimitri was, as he would call it, the Alpha, even though he wasn’t a true Alpha, not by blood at least. He was the Alpha because he had called himself out to be one. But we were in no way a pack. Hell, we didn’t even have official pack lands to live on. We were just a group of rogues, a group that had been growing over time, as word had spread and more rogues started to join in, hoping to finally find a better life for themselves. This was just one big lie because if Dimitri was anything, it sure as hell wasn’t an Alpha who was doing everything to protect his pack members, an Alpha who had their best intentions at heart. Dimitri was a f*****g asshole, a rogue with a thirst for blood and a plan on his mind, which just needed a lot of wolves to help him with. Which was when I had been contacted by the council a couple of months back. They had wanted me to infiltrate this group, understand what operation Dimitri was trying to set up here, understand what his plans were, and get word back to the council, so they could come up with a way to protect the neighboring packs living here. The council, no matter how small or big the threat, always wanted to know what was happening exactly. Which was my job, as an enforcer.
Before becoming an enforcer, I had no job, no mate, and no family. I was just a kid, an orphan, who had been living under the care of the pack house and the Alpha of the pack where I used to live. I had had zero before I had been contacted by the council. From what I heard, my Alpha at the time had contacted the council himself, telling them about some troubled boy with no past and no family. Apparently, that was exactly what the council had been looking for at the time. I got trained in combat and, just like that, a couple of months later, I was working on my first case, which mostly had been hunting down wolf criminals who were running from the council, and eventually, killing them if need be.
Yes, I had killed.
No, it didn’t make me feel anything.
Hell, I wasn’t even feeling anything as I knew that I was probably going to die myself, sometime very soon, as in right about now. My mind had been driven by the need to do my job correctly. It was the one thing in my life that I had control over. My family didn’t want me. Hell, my own Alpha didn’t want me since he shipped me off to the council the first chance he had gotten. So the only thing that I could control was my job, to be the best enforcer I could possibly be. And hell, after doing my first job and finding out what the pay was for doing the council’s dirty work… I had been hooked.
And now, here I was. Beaten to a pulp. Somehow, someone had found out about me working for the council. I still didn’t know how any of that had even happened in the first place. I had been undercover for weeks, working my way up, which had worked out just fine. But all of a sudden, a couple of guys were on me, beating me broken and blue, carrying me into here, the f*****g tent where I would probably let go of my final breath.
Shit.
Well… That was that.
I knew at least I wouldn’t leave anyone behind. Hell, nobody would mourn my death, and sure as hell, nobody would even miss me. I was a nobody, a ghost, I was disposable, garbage.
“What did you tell them about us?” Alpha Dimitri growled at me, and I frowned, looking up at him.
“Nothing,” I told him, leaning to the side to spit out some blood. And even though I might have sounded like a total jerk, I was telling the truth here. In order to make this case among rogues, I actually had to become a rogue myself. Which meant no pack, no Alpha’s protection, just me myself, and my wolf. Which also meant no contact with the council either. I was supposed to gather all the information, make a run for it, and contact the council when I could, but they would never come to get me if things turned sideways. I knew that, I knew it was a risk, a risk that right now was biting me in the ass, big time.
A massive blow to my head almost catapulted me off of my chair following my answer, and I groaned, feeling how my nose broke under Dimitri’s fist with the second blow. The fucker was strong, but he was also a f*****g coward. He wouldn’t let me fight him like a real man. No, he would rather kick my ass while I was strapped to the freaking chair. Prepared for him like a pig up for slaughter
“What did you tell them about us!” he shouted this time, as my head bobbed on my neck, floating around between being conscious and fainting.
“Nothing,” I whispered again. Why did this fucker just didn’t believe me? Hell, why hadn’t they asked me first, if it was actually true or not? I mean… it was true and I knew it, but what if I really was a rogue and someone had set me up to fail? Was he really that kind of guy? Kill and ask questions later? But my thinking was cut short, as Dimitri picked up my finger and pulled it up so hard that it snapped right in half. I screamed, because yes, breaking my finger hurt like a motherfucker. And somewhere deep down, I knew what kind of a twisted f**k this Dimitri was, and I knew deep down that this was just the start.
Fuck me
I’m seriously f****d…
No
even worse
I’m dead...
“What did you tell them about us?” He asked me again, his voice sounding calm, as if he felt good about himself, just snapping my finger like a f*****g twig.
“Nothing, I swear!” I gasped, pain soaring through my body.
“Nothing, he told them nothing,” Dimitri growled, shaking his head as if he couldn’t believe what he was hearing. He paced through the tent as if he was trying to come up with some way to make me speak, which wasn’t going to happen anyway, because I seriously had said abso-freaking-lutely NOTHING to the council. I was a dead man and I knew it. They often say that when you are close to death, your whole life should flash right in front of your eyes… and you see images of your loved ones. Which was a f*****g tragedy on my part because, right now, I saw absolutely nothing. Not one happy memory, not one person who I loved or who had loved me in return.
“Very sad Nico, you had so much potential.” Dimitri shook his head as if he was disappointed in me. Still not asking himself if maybe he had been wrong and I was just another rogue, working on his pack of shits for his stupid plan to take down the Denali pack. But first, he wanted to mow down other smaller packs, take the pack members and turn them into his soldiers or slaves, raise an army, and then go back to kill Alpha Kai, the Alpha whom Dimitri seemed to hate with a passion. Only the Moon Goddess would know why, and I sure as hell would not end up knowing how it would all end either, because, by that time, my body would be lying somewhere in the woods, rotten or eaten by animals.
“ He told them nothing…” Dimitri kept mumbling to himself as he kept pacing through the tent.
~We need to run!~ My wolf, Bogar, begged me, but I sighed, I couldn’t run and I knew it. Hell, he knew it as well.
We will never make it buddy. We need to heal first in order to run. I’m so sorry.
And my wolf whimpered, knowing that I was right. We were not getting out of this one in one piece.
“He told them nothing!” Dimitri then laughed sadistically, turning to face an older man who was also present in the tent, and as I looked around and saw all of the supplies being present here for the first time, I knew just what this f*****g place was. This was a torture room, or torture tent, whatever the f**k you wanted to call it. And this older f**k was the executioner. He would hurt me until I spoke, or he would kill me. Either way, there was no happy ending for me either way. Dimitri told him something, to which the older man nodded, probably scared out of his pants before he would say no to Dimitri. Dimitri nodded, turning back to me as he stepped over and lowered himself until he was at my eye level.
“You didn’t tell them anything?” he asked me, to which I shook my head. f**k, was this guy slow? He still didn’t understand that one f*****g line from me?
“Good.” Dimitri nodded, standing up as he looked down at me.
“And I will make sure that you will never tell another living soul either.” He told me before he waved at the older man.
“Cut out his tongue. Let’s see what our traitor has to say then.”
And I screamed bloody murder,
I cried,
I begged
and I pleaded,
and somewhere down the line,
I wished that I was really dead.
