CHAPTER TWELVE Ilse lay on her bed, staring at the ceiling and willing sleep to visit. She'd managed to get a few hours of sleep here and there but now, glancing at the digital clock next to her bed, it was nearly three AM. Still the dead of night. She twisted, burying her head beneath her blankets. But try as she might, she couldn't cut out the dreams. Dark dreams. Haunting dreams. They always seemed to follow her, no matter how far she ran. The same dreams... Her father stomping down the stone steps, yelling into the basement to announce his presence. And this time, joined by another figure. A woman in a ghostly dress.
