I stared at him in confusion for a few seconds, and then like a light bulb went off and I shook my head instantly in strong denial, "Oh ... oh no. Gosh not at all."
Taking my affirmation, he gave me a small smile of relief. That was kind of good to see, to be honest. I did not know how much I needed to see someone being concerned... or literally having someone to be there for me. From what I could see, Ryan was as genuine as anyone could get. And I had not even realized how much it affected my peace of mind.
"What did you want to talk about?" I repeated the question. It was good to be out of the house for sure, but I did not intend to stand under the sun the whole day with suspense gripping my brain.
"Actually this time I want to talk to you about something that is confidential and to be honest, I don't think I should be revealing it to you but in my opinion, it has something to do with you."
"What do you mean?" I responded, suddenly awfully aware that I was having a serious conversation with a man in my pajamas without having any underwear on when a cold wind flew past and made my n*****s poke through the thin cloth of the t shirt I was wearing.
My hands flew to my chest and folded in an awfully bad attempt to hide them but all it did was to make my cheeks flush in embarrassment and making Ryan's gaze fall to the area that I was trying to hide so desperately.
To my surprise, he immediately took off the jacket he was wearing and draped it over my shoulder, covering me up and letting it rest over my arms, like a gentleman. I was flustered and shocked, but his action suddenly made me feel a lot more comfortable around him than I had felt yesterday.
"Thanks," I murmured with gratitude.
"No problem." He smiled down at me, "feeling alright now?"
"Yes." I cleared my throat and smiled in gratitude.
"Let's talk while walking." he offered. I nodded my head in agreement and started walking with him.
"So what I need to discuss with you is about the events that happened right when you had come here to live with Elijah," Ryan said while looking down at me as we walked side by side, "I know that there are a lot of things that did not sit well with you, but the biggest out them is your friendship with Bella. She was coming to meet you that day when she was last alive, right?"
My feet got frozen on the spot as dread filled me at the mention of her name. But then gathering up my strength I met Ryan's gaze once again and continued the walk, "Y... yes. That's correct."
"Actually at that time there were a lot of deaths that happened and then suddenly stopped. We could not find the culprit. It was all blamed on Elijah because he is the most powerful in our world without having any position. When he was saved from his burial because of being one of the Royals, it just empowered his position in the supernatural world even more. So that is what makes him most dangerous."
"Elijah is not that kind of person." without even realizing the words slipped out of my mouth in Elijah's defense, "he is not a killer."
Ryan took a brief pause before he started to talk again, "Ally, I understand that you have your beliefs but without evidence, Elijah is still in the category of culprits who are roaming without punishments for their deeds."
With Ryan's every word, my anger increased. He had barely finished talking before I flipped around to face him and snapped, "all Elijah did was save me from a f*****g punishment that I did not even do any crime for! Your people from otherworld society should be the ones apologizing right now and being blamed over things or murder or whatever! How can you blame Elijah for such a horrific thing?!"
"I am not blaming him!" Ryan stopped walking as we came face to face, "I am just explaining the things that are happening here, Ally! I am not the enemy here."
I huffed out and started walking in the same direction that we had come from to go back to the house. Ryan's words had made me too angry to accept any kind of rationality.
"Ally!" I heard Ryan shout but my strides did not stop. He was quick to catch up to me when he grabbed my arm and stopped me, "you are being a spoilt brat right now instead of trying to understand the things I am trying to say to you!"
"And you are being a stubborn a*s right now by trying to tell me that the person who saved my life is actually a murder roaming the streets because he has too many powers to a***e!" I shouted.
Ryan huffed out an angry breath as his hands left my arms and went to the top of his belt to rest. His head stared at the ground, his head shaking in frustration. Then he took a deep breath, stared at me and said in a low voice,
"You are right, I am sorry. I was being judgemental."
I took a deep breath as I tried to push back the wave of anger. Even though I was angry at Elijah, I was not ready to see him get blamed for things. I was still in love with him. How could I see him get disgraced by other people like that?
"It's alright." I accepted his apology and whispered, "I... he has actually done too much for me. He is the most considerate person I have come across. He never did anything bad to me even when he had the full power and authority to do so. I respect him very much and I know he is not the kind of person who would kill people. If you actually want to blame anyone, then he is surely not the one you should be blaming. It should be the people that you are already working for in blind faith."
