The Man With Silver Eyes

Sienna POV “Nope. I still don’t get it… Tell me again why you aren’t jumping into the man’s arms and agreeing to be his wife?” Valentine demanded, as she held the sturdy punching bag between her arms so I could really go at it with skilled and accurate punches. I finished my assault with a spinning kick to the centre, causing her to stumble back slightly from the impact. If Val was a human, it would have floored her, but luckily, her vampire strength kept her in place. “Because…” I breathed, sending two more jabs into the solid rubber. “I’m not even sure I ever want to get married. I am not exactly wifey material.” “Says who? I think any bloke would be f*cking ecstatic to call you their wife! And clearly, Arch adores you. Yeah, ok, he is a little vanilla for my taste but talk about a man who has got his s**t together and will treat a girl like a f*cking princess!” I gritted my teeth at that word. “Maybe I don’t want to be treated like a princess. Maybe I want to be treated like a queen!” “Then you need to find yourself a King, my love. I love Arch to bits but he is Prince Charming… not King material,” she winked at me as she shoved the punching bag in my direction, causing it to nearly knock me flat on my ass. “I don’t see why I need a man to help me be anything. Queen, princess, assassin… we will never need a man or woman to raise us up, Val.” I walked away to grab a towel off the bench before taking a seat and dabbing the sweat from my forehead. Val strolled over to join me, undoing her wrist bands as she regarded me with a cheeky twinkle in her dark eyes and a mischievous grin. “Too f*cking right but they do have some uses.” I rolled my eyes as I took a sip from my water bottle, contemplating whether I should reveal to my friend that our s*x wasn’t exactly something to write home about. I mean, it’s not bad and sometimes, I do really enjoy it, but recently it just feels a little…samey. Sensing my deep thoughts, Val nudged my elbow with hers and I turned to look at her. “Look. All I am saying is… if he makes you happy and you f*cking love the guy, then why not marry him? He is one of the good ones. And trust me, I have dabbled in my fair share of men and women. They are few and far between these days.” “That’s the problem, Val. How do you know when you love someone? Like really love them?” I asked genuinely. I definitely cared about Archer. I mean I would be upset if he got hurt or hit by a bus, but is that love? “If you have to ask that question, then you are not in love, babes,” she threw her toned, tattooed arm around my shoulder. “Love makes us crazy in the best f*cking way. You think, breathe, feel them with every part of your soul.” I turned to study her from the side. Her once cheeky expression had turned to one of deep sadness and my heart instantly ached for her. I shouldn’t have brought this up. Valentine had her human life as well as her soul mate stolen from her. Six years ago, Val and her girlfriend were walking home from a night out when they were attacked by a vampire. He ripped her girlfriend to shreds in front of her and then started to drink Val dry but he was interrupted before he could finish her off. Leaving her for dead, the venom from his bite infected her blood and she turned before the sun rose the next morning. Archie was the one who found her and brought her to his father. She was the first supernatural, other than me, they came across who was willing to help them. “I’m sorry Val. I didn’t mean to-” “Don’t be silly!” she said abruptly, standing up from the bench and pulling me up by the hand before our emotions took over. We didn’t do that. The whole sharing our feelings thing. We were trained, cold-blooded killers. There was no room for emotions in our worlds. Our days consisted of training, researching, spying and killing. Just at that moment, Archie walked into the training gym in his immaculately ironed white shirt and suit trousers. His brown hair was styled back like it always was when he was at work and his shiny shoes squeaked on the rubber mats of the gym. If you could put this man in a more unnatural environment, this would be it. A small smile played on my lips as his eyes darted around at the aggressive agents who were drawing blood from one another. He was the polar opposite to me in every way, yet it was quite endearing really. That’s why we worked. “Ladies,” he greeted us formally. He took his job very seriously and was always extremely professional when we were both at work. You wouldn’t ever know that I was sharing a bed with him every night. “Director Brooks is on his way with a top-secret and highly dangerous mission.” His eyes held mine for a few seconds, and I saw his worry swirling in them. Whereas, I knew my amber irises were dancing with excitement. “He would like to see you both in half an hour so I suggest you go shower and change before he arrives.” He nodded once and turned on his heels as he walked away. Val waited for him to completely leave the gym before she whipped round, her long cornrow braids lashing me in the face accidentally as she grabbed my shoulders. “You don’t think-” “I don’t know. Maybe… It’s what we have always been training for. If he thinks we are ready then…” I couldn’t contain my own bubbling anticipation at the thought. For the last four years, I have been training for a specific mission…waiting for a certain kill to be assigned to me. To kill the man who ruined my parent’s lives. But it would be the most dangerous mission I would ever undertake and I had to be ready. I knew I was, but whether everything else had fallen into place was a different matter entirely. After a quick shower, I dressed in a long black leather jacket with a short dress underneath. Pulling on my knee-high leather boots, I felt as though I was projecting my powerful, boss-b***h image just in case Stanley had any doubts that I still wasn’t ready for whatever this high-profile case was. Val wolf-whistled as she looked me up and down appreciatively. I strutted towards her, giving her my best catwalk, flicking my auburn hair as I winked. “Sh*t girl! Why didn’t I get the memo to dress up for the occasion?” she moaned, catching up with me easily as she used her vamp speed. “I am borrowing this jacket!” The door suddenly opened in front of us in the narrow corridor of the SIA headquarters and Archie stepped out looking a little flustered. His eyes locked with mine before they raked over my outfit choice and his frown deepened. “Agent Stone. Agent Evans. Director Brooks will see you now,” he held the door open for us as we walked single file into the room. Archie gripped my arm just as I passed him and whispered, “You can say no, Sienna. There is more to life than this.” Letting go, he trudged away down the corridor, leaving me staring after him. An impatient cough interrupted my confusion as I snapped back to the moment and walked into the office to see the Director of the entire Supernatural Intelligence Association, who also happened to be my boyfriend's father, behind his desk. He leaned his thick hands on the surface as he slowly lifted himself to a standing position, never taking his eyes off me. “Agent Stone,” Stanley’s deep voice rumbled through the room. “Director. You’ve shaved,” I smirked. For as long as I had known him, he always had a groomed moustache decorating his top lip. That now bare lip curved up into a slow smile. “Fancied a change! And you’ve got…” he tilted his head to the side as he looked me up and down with interest. “Taller.” I chuckled and within seconds I had walked around the table to greet him as a daughter would a father. He was not my father but he was the closest thing I had to one since my own was hospitalised. When we pulled apart, it was back to business as usual as his smile vanished and his serious expression had returned. I joined Val at the other side of his desk and sat on the plush couch next to her. My heart started to flutter in my chest as Stanley clasped his fingers together and his green eyes assessed us both carefully. Just when I didn’t think I could take another second of his silent torture, he spoke. “The mission I am about to brief you on is highly sensitive and extremely dangerous, ladies. It is not to be discussed or spoken about outside of this office at any point, even to each other,” His voice had an edge of authority and discipline that was difficult to ignore. Val and I nodded our heads once in agreement. “We finally have something on an elite. One of them has messed up and we have found them.” I felt Val’s head snap to mine in surprise, but I kept my gaze fixed on Stanley’s. If what he was saying was true, I was one step closer to my revenge. “Come with me,” he suddenly stood up and we followed him out of the office. We stood in silence behind him as the elevator pinged and we all climbed in to take us to the fourth floor where we conducted interviews. No one spoke as the tension grew. I couldn’t let myself get too excited. He hadn’t given me the mission yet. Leading us into one of the rooms that was hidden behind a blacked-out window looking into an interview room, I narrowed my eyes when I saw Ronnie was interviewing a human girl who looked thoroughly shaken. Her large green eyes showcased her fear and anxiety at being here, but it was her trembling hands on the table in front that gave away how upset she was. She looked around my age, with long brown hair and was wearing a tracksuit which implied she was dealing with something so big that she couldn’t put much more effort into her style than that. “Rosie Hutchings, 25, hairdresser from Oregon,” Stanley stated as he handed me a profile on her. I quickly flicked through the pages, scanning the sheets for any interesting information or clues as to how this girl was going to link to supernaturals in any way. And then I saw it. My head snapped up and I glanced at Stanley as he nodded. “She is Agent Kelp’s girlfriend?” “Was. He’s dead.” My eyes widened as I looked from him to Val and then back at the girl through the concealed window. Scott Kelps is dead? He was a human agent within the SIA but was currently suspended for attacking a fellow agent during training. I never liked the guy and he had severe anger issues, but I was still a little taken aback by this news. “How did he die?” Val asked first. Stanley stepped forward and switched the intercom on, filling the room with Ronnie’s voice as he interviewed her. “Miss Hutchings, just for our records, please could you explain to me what happened to your boyfriend, Scott Kelps, two nights ago?” “I already told your Boss! Can I go home now?” “Once we have all the information for our records, yes. Of course you can go home,” Ronnie lied. That girl won’t be going home for a while… She sharply sucked in a shaky breath before repeating her version of events. “I - It was all my fault. It was my birthday and we were at the club and I met this… man. I promise I am not a cheater or, well, I have never cheated on Scott before but this man… he was just…” She stopped talking as she looked down at her fingers, guilt overshadowing her features. “Scott and I were having some problems. Especially since he was suspended. I just… I wanted to feel good. On my birthday, you know…” “Let’s try and stick to the facts, Miss Hutchings,” Ronnie encouraged, and I had to fight my urge not to scoff. I knew Ron would be feasting on this drama really! He loved good gossip! “I went outside with the man. I don’t even know his name,” she shook her head as a tear fell. “We started kissing down an alleyway and then Scott caught us. He attacked the guy and when he told Scott I was the one who came onto him, Scott… hit me.” “Then what happened?” “The man grabbed Scott by the throat and smashed him up against the wall. I swear I heard him growl. You know, like a wolf or something? He was holding him with only one hand and Scott’s feet weren’t even touching the floor. I had never seen strength like it! You know how big Scott is. Was.” she corrected herself sadly. “What did the man do next?” “He snapped Scott’s neck like… like it was a twig!” She bawled dramatically, throwing her head in her hands. I rolled my eyes. She was right. This was her fault. “He just killed him. Like he was nothing and dropped him to the floor. I don’t remember much after that. I was in shock.” “I know this must be very hard for you, but it is very important you try and recall every detail.” She nodded as I folded my arms over my chest. Come on Rosie. Tell me what I need to know. “He… he tried to walk towards me but he… he looked different. His eyes. They weren’t brown anymore. They were glowing like the moon. Silver moons. And he had fangs. Razor sharp fangs. I’m not lying!” she argued. “It’s okay. We believe you. Thank you Rosie.” Stanley turned the speaker off and I regarded him with a confused expression. “A vampire and wolf hybrid?” A triumphant smile lit up his ageing face as he met my gaze. “Not just a hybrid. Her descriptions match our research. He is a tribrid.” My lips parted slightly and my eyes widened. There were only two tribrids we had heard of in existence…He wasn’t kidding, an elite really had f*cked up. Elites are known by us agents as the supernaturals that seem to have extreme power over their kind. Royalty or leaders. We had never managed to get much information on any of them as they kept themselves very hidden and never seemed to put a foot wrong. But now… one had. “How can you be sure? And you said you know where they are? How?” “Scott was wearing his tracker. His body was transported to England. I sent a spy to the location and what we have found is more than we could have counted on. They are running some kind of supernatural academy. I can’t be sure until I send you in. But I am 99% certain, the man who killed Agent Kelps is a supernatural being of the rarest blood. She said he had fangs, eyes that changed multiple colours, insane strength and he used magic to transport himself and Scott's body to another country. From the description she has given us of this man, he matches only one.” “So the mission is to kill him?” I asked, flicking my eyes over to Val, who was listening intently. “No. This is the closest we have got to finding out about the way these elites are ruling and what they have planned. Whether they are the biggest threat to humankind. I am going to send you and Val to the academy to go undercover as supernatural students and infiltrate their world. Find out as much information as you can about them all.” My eyebrows furrowed and my frown deepened as I thought about what this meant. I was going to have to do this mission in my true form. A half fae and half human student there to learn her craft. I was going to have to spend time and make fake friendships with the creatures I hated most in this world. And I wasn’t even allowed to kill any of them. Stanley chuckled when he saw my expression and gripped my shoulder with his muscular hand. “Don’t look so disheartened, Agent Stone. I haven’t shared the best news yet,” his eyes crinkled at the sides as he smiled down at me. “The headmaster of the academy is the very same hybrid you have been searching for for years. Do this for me, and you will get justice.” My whole body stilled and I felt my heart stop beating… just for a split second before it roared to life, thundering in my chest. He was there? “What do you need me to do?” I asked immediately. I would do just about anything to be given the chance to end that monster’s life. “Get in with the elites. I don’t care how you do it but get close to that tribrid. He is clearly a ticking time bomb and the key to all our success. He will also lead you straight to the man who is responsible for your parents' horrendous ordeal.” I nodded my head in understanding as Stanley released my shoulder. “Find the man with the silver eyes.”
