"Greene." I call out as she gets to her locker and she jumps, placing a hand on her chest.
Today she had on black leggings and a large slightly distressed maroon t-shirt and light pink champion sneakers. Her hair was up on a curly pony tail, a gold anklet shining on her foot.
Utterly sexy.
"Hey Ted." She smiles and I sigh in relief. She's not mad.
"I'm sorry, I forgot about yesterday-"
""That's fine." She waves it off. "How are you?" She closes her locker and i smile.
"I'm great now that I've seen you. You look. . Amazing. . Today." I compliment and she rolls her eyes, smile on her face.
"Cheesy." She says as we walk down the halls, eyes only on us as the whispers circulate on how she got me.
Damn, even I was wondering, she didn't even try.
"So i'd like to make it up to you." I say and she raises an eyebrow.
"Yea?"
"Let me take you out for lunch."
"As a date?" She says, her eyebrows go even higher as she abruptly stops.
"As a date." I confirm, a smirk on my face as she giggles nervously.
"Teddy. . You're a nice guy, really, however, I just got here, it's my second day and i barely know you. As far as I know you could have a girlfriend." I open my mouth to defend my self but she shakes her head. "Not right now, it's too soon and I have a lot going on right now. Relationships aren't in my line of interest at the moment. I hope you can understand." When i refuse to say anything she sighs before turning away. "See you later then."
"What was that?!" Came a screeching voice. And I growl.
"Not now Jace."
"Shut up." He snaps and I turn to show him how much I meant that not now. That was until I see his red face. "Did you seriously just ask that girl out? She's only been here a day, get to know her first at least."
"Isn't that what dates are for?" I retorts angrily and he sighs.
"Sure, but with the intention of getting into a relationship after. She's obviously not like the easy girls aka, jasmine, you've only made her feel like the only reason you started talking to her was to get in her pants!" Realization dawns on me and I bring my palm up to my face.
"How do you know all this but all you've had were one night stands?" I question playfully and he shrugs.
"I've got to know what to do to trick the hard to get ones into sleeping with me." He explains and I roll my eyes before heading to class.
●
It was chemistry class and I was literally sweating. What if she didn't want to be friends anhmore? What if she pushed me away? What if-
She wasn't in class?
Maybe she was just late.
I waited and eaited, eventually the class piled up and still no sign of Greene. I left the classroom without any explanation setting out to find her.
"Did Greene Lettermen sign out?" I ask the secretary and she nods.
"Just a few minutes ago actually, she shouldn't be too far."
Running off, I find her talking furiously on the phone her arms flailing as she threw her Mazda's door open and next her bag before starting the vehicle and speeding off.
Curiosity spiked me, but i knew my dad would be more than pissed if i left, so i let it rest and walked back to class.
●
Greene wasn't't in school the next day either, biting my lip, i was a bit irritated that I had to hang out with my usual friends their conversations no longer interesting to me.
I nearly fall out of my seat when Greene comes walking into the cafeteria, her eyes searching.
I will her to find me, nd when she does she smiles, walking towards me. I was no longer confidenr, my heart hammering in my chest as she nears me.
"Hey Ted. . . Can we. . " Her eyes move around the table and I stand quickly.
"Sure. Later guys." Jace throws me a thumbs up as Jasmine just pins us with a death glare.
"I'm sorry to disturb you, but i left school early due to an emergency and I Couldn't get my chemistry notes. I don't exactly plan on lagging on my first week here, so could you help me out?" She peers up at me and I nod.
"Of course. Is everything okay?'" Her smile falters a bit before she takes a deep breath and nods.
"Everything's fine."
●
Greene was in my messy room. As soon as she stepped in I mentally slapped myself. She chuckles, before taking a seat on my bed.
"Typical." She murmurs as I grab some of the empty water bottles and throw them in my near by bin, kicking a box of half eaten pizza under my bed.
I hand her my chemistry book, before plugging in my iphone and leaving to get some snacks.
When I return, i find her staring at a picture of my mother. I resist the urge to pry it from her hands, gently placing the chips and soda onto the table. She stands quickly giving me a sheepish look.
"She's gorgeous." Greene murmurs and I nod.
"Does she live with you?"
"Nah, she left about three years ago." She nods.
"Sorry to hear that."
"It's cool, I've gotten over if." I say smoothly, if only that wasn't a lie. "What about you?"
"I live with my grandparents." She says biting her lip. "Like you, my mom left when I was younger."
"And your dad." Her eyes cloud over and there came a full ache in my chest.
"Long story.' She whispers and i figure maybe she just didn't want to tell me. So i leave it alone. She begins writing the notes, neatly and I just sit looking at her.
"Don't you have himework?" She raises an eyebrow and I shake my head.
"What's your favourite colour?" I ask as she finishes the passage with a full stop, placing the book in her bag.
Anything to stop her from leaving.
"Grey." She says.
"I like hazel now." She rolls her eyes, giggle at my cheesiness. "Favourite food?"
"Um . . . Is it weird that I don't have a favorite food? Whatever i feel like eating at the moment is my favourite."
"You're right, that is weird." She punches my arm and I pretend to wince causing her to only laugh louder. Gosh, this girl was utterly perfect and she didn't even know it yet.
"Tell me about your high school life, its all confusing." She demands, folding her food under her, and i couldn't help but notice how she was allowing herself to get comfortable.
"Well, my dad's the principal." I start off and her mouth drops open.
""That makes a lot of sense." She says and I chuckle.
"Automatically I have a lot more power than the usual student, not to brag, and I'm placed right at the top of the popular crew as you called it. In everyone's eyes I'm the definition of pefect, great grades, football star, but I swear it irritates the heck out of me. I don't like it when people put pressure on me to do things, like my dad. He wants to dictate my life and well, that's not going to happen. I'm not this perfect little good boy, I'm whoever i want to be and if he doesn't realize this soon then he's gonna be in for a lot of disappointments." Sighing, I run a hand through my hair, knowing i went off topic.
"I'm-"
"Don't. Dont apologize. It's okay, i rather you let it out than keep it in and let it eat you up." Those words meant a lot more than she thought, even the comforting hand she laid on my shoulder had me feeling like a wimp. "I agree with you, be whoever you want to be." She nods, before scrunching up her face. ""Within reason of course. No one wants to she their kid turn into a male stripper or something."
I end up bursting into loud laughter at her thoughts and she grins.
""That's what's on your mind?" I tease and she shrugs.
"What about. . You and jasmine?' She hesitates and i immediately sober up.
"She's the star cheerleader and then there's me with the football. I guess we were just being stereotypical." I explain and she nods. "We're not together. I broke it off."
"It's fine. It would make more sense anyway." She says gathering her things and i frown.
"You're leaving?" I ask and she nods.
"Its getting late, and I actually have homework." I walk her down to her car, at the same time that my step mother Jane, pulls up into the driveway. "See you at school Ted. " she waves and I smile.
"Bye Greene." Watching her drive away.
"New girlfriend?" Jane speaks up, two shopping bags in hand and I roll my eyes choosing not to speak as i went back up to my room.
