CHAPTER 13 “You woke up that early?” Brad’s mom asked with a frown. “You poor thing. You’ll have to try to nap this afternoon.” “It’s fine,” he told her. “I’m still on East Coast time. It was like waking up any other day.” “Yeah, but you stayed up so late,” she protested. Brad had to smile at the way his mother and just about everyone else in Orchard Grove considered a nine o’clock bedtime late. They were out in the barn milking the goats. It was still early, but he could tell it was going to be another hot day. After his dad had put Grandma Lucy back to bed, Brad sat in her room with her to make sure she was all right, but she was fast asleep in a few minutes, so he’d taken himself on that run around Baxter Loop. Good thing too, since the temperature was already in the low eighties.
