Briar's POV. I arrived at the classroom just in time before the bell rings. My eyes scanned the whole room and when I spotted Brit and Trish, I let out a sigh and started walking to their direction seeing that they reserved a seat for me. "There you are! We thought you got ambushed by a locker or something." Trish said laughing. "Yeah, what took you so long?" Brit also said while laughing as I rolled my eyes at the two of them. "Luke happened." I answered blatantly and as soon as I said Luke's name their happy faces both turned into a scowl. "Briar, you know you don't have to keep up with this, all you have to do is ask and I'll help you report him. You know my mom's the head--" I cut her off and gave her a convincing smile. "I'm fine Brit, really." I said taking a seat and smiling at the both of them. I don't want to complicate things as they already are. "But he's been doing this for a year now, aren't you tired?" Trish asked looking at me with pity clear in her eyes. I smiled letting them know I wasn't affected by Luke's very own existence. "I'm fine, okay? plus, words can't do much damage. I'll ask help if it gets too much okay?" I flashed them a convincing smile. I just told them that so they won't be bothered anymore. I don't want them to think too much about me, just their mere presence is too much to ask and what more for their concern. I mean, Brit and Trish has been my friends since third grade and I'm happy they're still sticking with me though we really have big gaps on the social order that's been going on, they belong in the upper group where popular, pretty, and rich kids belong, unlike me whose at the bottom of the food chain. When we started to step junior high they both had changes going on physically. With their hips widening, boobs getting bigger, butt --- alright you guys get it, right? but as for me, well, not much, my 5'2 height didn't helped well. They had curves forming and I on the other hand was stuck with my freaking baby fats, or with tummylina the talking tummy. Geeze, I feel weird naming my tummy. "All right, but we're always by your side, okay?" Trish said and they both hugged me. "Yes, if Luke do anything that could hurt our little princess we must know." Brit said squeezing me in a tight and bone breaking hug. I heave a deep sigh. If they only knew, If they only knew how much pain he had inflicted on me, how I hate to see myself in the mirror reminding me of how ugly I was, reminding of haw far I was from my friends, its even funny, how even my reflection looks back at me with distaste. Class proceeded quickly and students stood up abruptly when the school bell rang indicating lunch time. "Hey Brit, you coming?" Trish yelled as she retouches her makeup looking outside as three of the popular girls wait for them. This is the moment I dreaded the most. "Okay wait up, Briar, come on lunch time." Brit smiles pulling my hand but I just smiled weakly pulling my hand back. "N-no. I'm fine, I need to do something first. You guys go ahead." I lied through gritted teeth as I saw their other friends sending daggers at my direction. Geez, If looks could kill I'd be six feet under. "You sure?" they asked. "Yes." I smiled at them. Fake smiles, I hope they'll notice. But their reaction states other wise. "Oh, alright. We'll see you later then, Briar." Brit said as Trish waved her hands at me five of them clinging their hands like best friends. I just smiled sadly. Why aren't I lucky just like them? why aren't I pretty? This is what pained me the most, that Brit and Trish has lots of other friends other than me. I mean, yeah they stick with me through the subjects that we're together but other than that? they're with them, the popular kids, in their table where only popular students can sit and the ugly duckling has to stare while they laugh about different gossips that I myself wish to hear about. I just sigh tying my strawberry blond hair in a messy bun, adjusting my glasses and smiling sadly to myself. When I saw that they were out of sight, I walk towards the bathroom clutching my back pack tighter hoping I wouldn't bump with the devil himself. Luckily, I arrived at the girls restroom peacefully. I opened one of the cubicle locking it behind me. After that I made sure that no one was inside before closing the toilet lid sitting down as I open my bag to eat my lunch. This has been my daily routine. Eating alone, hiding from him, sometimes self pitying why it was me, but good thing it was me, I couldn't imagine anyone else facing what I was facing. I ate in silence, but sat completely still when I heard the door creaking open, heavy footsteps made its way towards my direction sending my heart into summersaults and my stomach tying into knots. I sat completely silent waiting for something but heard nothing but my racing heart beat. I swallowed every food in my mouth and closed my bag as I went to open the bathroom door, pushing it open a splash of cold water I didn't know awaited me. I was dripping wet. I looked up to see him smirking with triumph clear in his blue eyes. "Oops." he whispered staring at me, mocking me with his stare. don't cry briar. be strong. show him it doesn't affect you. don't show him fear, he'll feed on it. I smiled at him. "You done?" I asked smiling, in the inside my heart clenching. He smirked knowing I was only pretending to be strong. "Oh, not yet, flower. Not yet." He whispered the last part as shivers ran through my spine when he called me flower. "Show me what you got." I whispered my voice raspy from the cold feeling the water gave me. I was trembling, not just only because of the cold water fell onto me, but also because of the stare he was shooting towards me. Cold blue eyes, that now held anger, pain, regret and mostly vengeance, that once held love in them. ——— @ParadoxicalPen
