“It did not trouble me,” Lord Ravenscar replied.
Romara gave a little laugh at the way he spoke.
Then she said,
“Caryl felt embarrassed at upsetting your household the moment she stepped into it. As a matter of fact they are all infatuated with Alexander and if he stays here for long I am afraid he will be terribly spoilt!”
“He may stay as long as you wish to have him here,” Lord Ravenscar said, “and that applies as well to his mother.”
“You are so very – kind – I don’t know – quite what to say,” Romara murmured.
“Why not leave everything to me?” Lord Ravenscar suggested. “I am sure your father always made the decisions in your house. Well, I would like to make them in mine.”
