Chapter 49: An Officer And A Luna

1180 Words
Xander's Point of View I didn't give her enough credit. Though sweet and kind, there was a fierce spirit within Luna Jo. She was protective of her friends, especially Eyrx. I was frozen in horror when I first saw him transform, knowing that this was the young boy I had helped many years ago. The creature must have bitten him before we killed it. How had Eyrx been able to tame the monster inside and use it to protect and defend those he cared for? When Luna Jo mentioned that Seraphina was involved with Adrian and Eyrx, it sent shivers down my spine. Protecting Elder Simon's son was my top priority. Was Eyrx a threat to Adrian? Luna Jo believed I was judgmental, but that wasn't the case. Vampires are often associated with a strong s****l nature, so it wouldn't have shocked me if Adrian wasn't celibate or conservative. However, the fact that he and Eyrx Void shared a partner raised a troubling issue that couldn't be ignored. The Beta's mate couldn't tear her eyes away from me since I first introduced myself. It was pretty interesting, considering that I wasn't even using my supernatural allure on her. She was pregnant, just like the Luna. Maybe it was the hormones that were causing her to fixate on me. Oddly enough, Luna Jo appeared to be unaffected by me. I even noticed her rolling her eyes at Clara's behavior and my smirking reaction. I was always aware of the effect I had on women. In my human life, I enjoyed the company of countless women and the adulation they bestowed upon me. This hasn't changed during my many years as an immortal. I have never needed to pursue a woman, nor have I ever faced rejection. I felt no urgency to pursue someone I felt drawn to actively. If I didn't derive as much pleasure from s*x as I did, the absence of emotional bonding and the adrenaline rush of being with someone would have troubled me. It did create a rather dull existence, though. In all my years, I had never encountered what these werewolves called a mate. I grasped the concept; Elder Simon had found his, and Adrian was the incredible outcome. When I was first turned, I often wondered whether I craved a companion or a beloved. Unlike most vampires, I had the ability to walk in the daylight, just like my sire, Elder Simon. At that time, I longed for someone to join me on this new path, yet as time passed, I grew increasingly apathetic and disinterested. "How is it possible for you to walk in the daylight?" Luna Jo asked as we neared our destination. "I've always been able to since I was turned," I shrugged. "I have abilities that most vampires do not possess, which I attribute to Elder Simon, who sired me. I have never questioned them; I have simply accepted them as part of who I have become," I explained. Clara stopped suddenly, and the color drained from her face. "I have to go - I forgot about an appointment for your Luna ceremony, Jo. I'm so sorry! Marjory just linked me, asking if I was still coming. She understands I'll be late but is willing to wait for me. It was lovely meeting you, Xander," Clara exclaimed, hurrying off. I was captivated by the incredible mind-linking abilities on display as I watched the Beta's mate scurry off down the path we had just walked. "Luna Ceremony? You haven't had that yet?" I asked Luna Jo, intrigued. Luna Jo replied, "Life has been chaotic. The ceremony has been delayed but will be taking place this week. I would be honored if you and Elder Simon would like to attend. Do you think he would be interested in joining us?" "If he would, I will contact the Moon Goddess and request a blessing for Elder Simon as well," the generous woman said. "To be honest, I've never attended a Luna ceremony before because I've never been invited," I responded. Luna Jo beamed at me as she extended a heartfelt invitation. She assured me she would speak to Selene, requesting a blessing for Elder Simon to join the event. Luna Jo emphasized that if Elder Simon chose not to attend, she wouldn't take offense. However, she strongly desired him to be part of her special day, highlighting the strong alliance between our clan and her pack. I was taken aback by the radiant energy this woman exuded. Her commanding presence made me question whether Jo truly comprehended its magnitude. Alpha Felix was undeniably blessed. Luna Jo was not only beautiful but also possessed a gentle and kind nature paired with an indomitable spirit. It's a truly captivating combination. "It has been rescheduled twice. Despite the threat of the Collective and Lucius attempting to infiltrate the Dark Moon pack again, we have decided to hold the celebration tomorrow evening. My mother and adoptive father have returned for this event. They have arranged for additional security from the Shifting Circle organization, which will help protect the Dark Moon pack while pack members attend. We will be hosting the event in a prom-style, as many of us have never had the opportunity to attend such a gathering," explained Luna Jo. "Does this mean that both Eyrx and Adrian will be in attendance?" I asked, now very worried, given that Jo had mentioned they were keeping their distance to avoid conflict. "Yes, but to be fair, Seraphina would not take either man as her date. A public venue for a first introduction between the two men vying for Seraphina's heart seemed the safest. Now that Clara has gone, we can speak freely. I will not reveal Adrian's parentage, nor will Felix or the others who know. It is up to Elder Simon to reveal when he feels it is the right time to do so. Please believe me when I tell you that Seraphina would never hurt Adrian intentionally. She cares for him deeply, and he cares for her. Perhaps it will be revealed that they are mates or that Eyrx is destined for Seraphina. Although it is rare, it is possible to have two mates," Jo said. "Perhaps you will meet your beloved at this event," an amused voice spoke as Selene stood beside me. I trembled slightly, attempting to conceal my surprise at her sudden appearance. The enigmatic Moon Goddess certainly possessed an unconventional sense of humor. "I will meet with Elder Simon to bestow my blessing upon him. Also, there is a suit waiting for you in your new room, Xander, that perfectly complements your eyes," she said with a grin before vanishing again. "Does she make a habit of doing that?" I inquired of Luna Jo. The Luna spoke softly, with a wistful expression, and said, "Yes, she has even appeared in my dreams." Jo's response to my raised eyebrows was a simple shake of her head. She offered me an awkward smile and said, "Don't ask. Trust me. You don't want to know."
